    I DID IT!! Ordered my Carrera S today! Check out the SPECS

    I am very excited right now, just got back from the dealer. I just placed an order on the following car. Please comment, I wanna see what you guys think of it.

    The car will be early April production.

    '05 Porsche Carrera S

    - (X4) Speed Yellow (convinced myself, hopefully won't regret!)

    - (403) 19 ich Carrera S wheels

    - (AP) Black Sport Seats

    - (P77) Sport seats

    - (022) Instrument dials in Black

    - (267) Automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors

    - (425) Rear wiper

    - (640) Sport Chrono Package Plus

    - (XCZ) Sport Shifter

    - (XPA) Thicker three-spoke sports steering wheel in smooth leather

    - (680) BOSE Surround Souns System.

    That is the car I ordered, I still have one month or so to make any modifications.

    The final price of the car without tax was $84,480 and I got a $2000 discount and came out to be $82,480.
    Was it a good deal?

    Congratulations TC! Tell me - did you get to check out the thicker steering wheel? I am toying with the idea or ordering my Box S with one, but wasn't able to try one so I'm unsure.

    Looks like you ordered yourself a complet car! Speedyellow is not my cup of tea, but I can imagine you like it. I love the S wheels, by far the vest choice for a 997. Black interior cant go wrong. The rear wiper is personal, I think I would opt for one as well. SPort chrone is a must, too bad it comes with the clocky. Thicker steering wheel is also very good, as the wheels I felt at the dealer were all too slim. Two options I would add: colored wheel centre crsts, and porsche crests in the headrest, but I don't know whether that is possible on the sport seats. Maybe I would also like yellow seatbelts btw, preferable racing harness...
    All in all, it sounds like you have your dream car, and I'm really looking forward to seeing some pics... when is it due?

    I picked that option with my "eyes closed". I have never seen a picture of it...I went to 3 diferent dealers and not one had an S with that option Well hopefully wont be a mistake!

    You might want to give some consideration to adding NAV..works really great getting you to places you have never been..

    BTW your avator is broken and does not appear..

    Dump the rear wiper. Looks like a large grasshopper is affixed to your back window.

    Dump the thick steering wheel. It looks like a wheel for a person who has an orthopedic problem.

    Color and other options look very good. US dealers are giving pretty good discounts on the S. However I understand Euro dealers are giving big incentives (over $3000) to turn in 996's and buy 997's

    For once I agree with nberry , dump the rear wiper.
    However, the thicker steering wheel is great, you can't notice a difference between the regular one, but you can feel the difference.....

    To Nick's defense , the rear wiper automatically stops @ 115mph or 125 mph since the wind prevents any rain on the rear window. Use that money toward painted wheels .

    "white" instrument dials have drama you might want. During the day they area easy to see. At night they look black. I like that duality. Might as well get the nav module or you will have a few buttons that appear functional but don't do anything. Get rid of the wiper (unless extreme snow conditions in your area of FL) and get heated seats instead. The women in your life will be grateful.

    rear wipers are for suburbans, don't go there!The rest of the car sounds great.

    I think I'm going to follow you guys adivice regarding the wiper! I didn't want to order other options due to $$$, I was trying to keep it within my budget...I'm keeping in mind that I'm replacing my E46 M3 for that Carrera S and in my opnion its a big jump in cost...( I'm in the line for the new M5, so basically didnt want to go to crazy here).

    Sounds like a great spec - although Id recommend the nav as it works well and some full color wheel centers to really set the car off given the body color. Many congratulations.

    Oh come on, Nick. Are your hands the same size as Mario Andretti's?

    If one has even slightly larger-than-average hands, a thicker wheel makes steering the car so much more enjoyable.

    After a short time driving my TT cab with the CPZ thicker steering wheel option, I quickly got an after-market version from Gert to put on my (former) TT coupe. It was worth twice what I paid for it in driving satisfaction.

    Have you ever tried one?

    This is just my personal thought- Although yellow is the "new" sport color and came into the seen a few years back, I think its a trend that will fade in a copule of years... So just consider how your car will look in lets say 2007...
    BTW, I ordered a yellow Gemballa in 2002 and at that time I thought it looked stunning. Anyway, Congrats & I know you'll enjoy the car even if it was colorless.

    1. No to the rear wiper.

    2. If I had the opportunity, I would have ordered the thicker steering wheel (XPA) but it was not available at the time. Is it now? I've yet to see one except maybe on the Porsche configurator. But then, it didn't look too different than the standard steering wheel on the Porsche website.

    3. You should get the adaptive sport seats and the full leather.

    4. Get the sport exhaust if it is available at that time.

    5. Get the colored wheel crests.

    6. Black instrument dials were one option I was toying with but stuck with the standard aluminum dials. I'm pretty happy with that look.

    Everything else looks great.

    I didnt order the Sport exhaust because it was going to delay the production on my car. My question is, can the Sport Exhaust be retrofitted later on?

    Yes, it will be available as a retrofit. One thing you might want to do is ask for the install to be done at no cost since that option was promised to be available last year and wasn't. You shouldn't have to pay more for their delay. I'm actually surprised that even for an April production that it still isn't available from the factory.

    I'm not a fan of the Speed Yellow, I liked the "old" yellow that was a bit "softer". But I can understand that you want to stand out from all those grey/silver cars.

    Zürich, who drives a black Boxster S (260HP)...
    ..and who will order a Sealgrey 997S ..

    Unfortunately, no such thing as a discount in the UK for the 997's, although dealers may be offering more for the 996 as part exchange.

    We don't get any decent deals in the UK - whether its hi-fi, computers or cars.....

    Does no harm to the 2nd hand value of the 997 though :-)

    Sounds like a fantastic car, and well done for going for such a non-standard colour. You will not regret it.

    I second comments about the rear wiper - even here in rainy London I have never regretted not ticking that box. You simply do not need it. The rear window seems to clear itself at speeds of about 30mph, so unless you are planning on not going any faster , don't bother!

    If I had my time again, I wouldn't spec the Bose and spend the money on some aftermarket set up. IMO the Bose sucks.

    i'd take the rear wiper anytime. suits a 911 just fine, gives a lot of mechanical presence.

    TC keep the wiper! I am driving a loaner 997 with no wiper and with the dust and dirt on the roads here I could really do with it. I know your Florida weather is a little better than we have in London but still I think its worth having and actually the back window looks a little bare without it as I'm so used to seeing them on just about all 911s in this godforsaken country...

    no wiper !
    having driven a 911 for 6 years without it, I never missed it
    I also drive a mini copper s with it. on the cooper it is a necessary standard feature due to the upright window.
    the porsche wiper detracts from the lines of the car and especially in florida will never be used

    Huh???? jeez, I guess some folks can justify ANYTHING!! LOL!! The wiper is just ugly clutter, and you'll not use it in Florida. I didn't go for the auto-dimming mirrors, because they distract/spook the crap out of me. I realize you're on a budget, but if you tossed out the two small options (that you won't really miss), and the bit the bullet on full-leather, you'd never regret it. Great car though! I think you got a fine deal, considering you're in Miami where demand must be fairly crowded. Up here in horse country, Ocala, I was able to knock $5000 off of MSRP on my Black/Terracotta 997S, bringing it from $91,185.00 to $86,185.00. That extra $3 grand bought me alot of nice options!! BTW, I'm with you, I didn't get the NAV. It's 100% modular, so you can "plug" it into your car at any later date if you so desire. But I've got other cars with NAV, and you simply never use it, and it takes longer to plot a map on NAV than it does to simply grab a map out of the glovebox, or an atlas from behind the seat.

    That's true about dust and dirt. If you have a gravel road to and from the house or office, it'something to consider. I have to buy light-colored cars because of constant dust from the gravelly access road to our house. When it's really dry weather, clean windows and dark paint look awful after ONE trip. Driving really slowly on these roads, presumably to reduce dust on car's paint, isn't much help either.
