Full Press Announcement including Pictures - here

Check the NEWS section of Rennteam.com, guys. You find the full press release including pictures.

Re: Full Press Announcement including Pictures - here

Christian, Ron,
I've just checked the Porsche website and the news is not online yet, I know it's just a matter of hours or days but I wonder how you guys pull it off, congrats!!!
I've told my dealer, he gets official infos from me now
Hahahaha...
Thanks guys,
Fanch.

Re: Full Press Announcement including Pictures - here

John was a few hours faster than us because I had work to do and I had no time to prepare the info and post it. I should have known that we have some other pretty well informed people over here too. Next time, I'll take my time and post the info immediately.

To be serious: this is no racing, who is faster or not. I'm very thankful for John's info and the other stuff which comes in all the time from our highly appreciated Users. Without our Users and especially User like John, this site would be nothing.

I might sound arrogant right now but I think we have now (of course with the help of our valued Users) one of the most respected Porsche and sportscar sites on the internet.

Thanks to you all, guys...we're happy to have you all on board.

Re: Full Press Announcement including Pictures - here

Well said, RC. I think we all feel that getting accurate information is more important than getting fast but perhaps inaccurate information. While reading some financial news sites and another sports car board earlier today, I noticed a link to the Carrera GT announcement, double-checked that it was official, and then posted it. I'm happy to have helped out, but feel secure in the fact that RC and others will 99% of the time have access to the most interesting and accurate information well before the rest of us.

Now back to the Carrera GT ...

What do you think about it in comparison with these other benchmarks? I'm impressed that Porsche in fact upped the displacement and horsepower, for once showing that they take the horsepower wars seriously. At the same time, didn't Porsche say they expected the Carrera GT to weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 2700-2800 lbs. when it was first announced? If so, they missed by a bit <img src="http://www.rennteam.com/w3timages/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Ferrari Enzo: V12; 660 hp; 484 lb-ft tq; curb weight 3010 lbs; $667,000
Pagani Zonda S: V12; AMG-sourced V-12 with 555 hp and 553 lb-ft tq.; curb weight 2756 lbs; $387,000
Lambo Murcielago: V12; 580 hp; 479 lb-ft tq; curb weight 3638 lbs; $273,000

Re: Full Press Announcement including Pictures - here

I think the Porsche has an unbeatable advantage, it's a coupe cabriolet.
Now that's make a difference to a lot of people, incl. me
Cabs are extremely popular in the States, but I know that some people believe that hard core sport cars should be coupe for obvious rigidity reason. But I think Porsche has done their homework and I'm hoping the GT to be one of the stiffest cars outthere.
I just LOVE the back, that huge extractor, with those lovely exhaust pipes, man, what it must be with the roof down in tunnels at 8000rpm
I am also impressed by the fact that the car looks so similar to the concept. Ok, those roll over hoops a little bit disgracious compared to the concept but they're here for obvious reasons...
Overall, I'm really impressed.
How can the Enzo be quicker from 0 to 100kmh but then the GT be quicker from 0 to 200kmh???
Anyway, can't wait for first test drives.
The Enzo vs GT match will extremely interesting, if Ferrari ever allows it to happen
Fanch.

Re: Full Press Announcement including Pictures - here

I like the back view a lot as well. Is that an additional, small spoiler below the larger rear wing? I may be wrong about that.

The only exterior change from the concept car that I can see is the addition of the two red circular lights on either side of the exhaust. No big deal, and they harmonize nicely. Also, there are now two small air ducts, I believe, on either side of the engine intake covers.

There are no cars that can compete with the performance of the Pagani Zonda S these days (with its low weight), but I think the Carrera Gt fares nicely against the Enzo, and certainly outpoints the heavier Lambo Murcielago.

Low weight? Isn't it 1388 kg? Acceleration is said to be 11.2 sec for 0-200 km/h. Source: www.track-challenge.com

... I visited other websites, and some mention a weight of 1250 kg. Who knows?...

Re: Full Press Announcement including Pictures - here

Yeah, the weight of the Pagani Zonda S is reported in US Autoweek to be 2756 lbs.

autoweek

Also, Top Gear (UK), December 2002, reports that the Zonda weighs 400kg less than the Murcielago, and has a power-to-weight ratio of 440bhp per ton versus the Lambo's 346 bhp per ton.

The Top Gear video of the Pagani and the Lambo being tested and tracked together is one of the most entertaining videos I've seen in a long time ...

Re: Full Press Announcement including Pictures - here

Compared to the prototype, the actual GT has more power, but less torque. And the additional power doesn't compensate the increased weight. huh... Mixed feelings here...
