    Just a reminder.....

...for those of you in the UK picking your car up on 1st March

    FOUR WEEKS TO GO!!!!!!!!

Not long now..... time to get insurance sorted, Zymol bought, garage cleaned out... already checking the long range weather forecasts. Haven't failed to drive a new convertible off the forecourt with the roof down yet.

    Re: Just a reminder.....

    lol!!!!

Good to know its not only me counting the days, no minutes until I get my motor!!!!!

Although dont talk to me about Insurance! Lowest quote so far is Pounds1700!!!!! Havent had my own insurance for 3 years so those fekers are treating me as a 0 ncb guy even though Ive never made a claim in 10 years driving!!!!!!

    Re: Just a reminder.....

Thanks for the reminder, need to sort out insurance. I take it they have the model on the systems now?

Also need to sell my 986, not having much luck at the moment

Mine will be at the dealer's in a couple of weeks, but being the cool, unruffled sort of type that I am I probably won't pick mine up until Thursday 3rd. Better for my work and also dealer will be quieter. Just think when I am all excited getting mine the rest of you will already be bored with your new toys and be thinking of what to get next! Insurance wise, I will probably go with Porsche. Best overall package but not the most expensive.
Next thing to think about - organising the Great Spring Rennteam UK meet!

    Re: Just a reminder.....

Been doing the insurance rounds already - a few say we can only quote 30 days in advance, not realising that Feb only has 28 days (thank god it's not a leap year we'd all go mad waiting the extra day)

Anyway, best so far for me - 1st Alternate (part of Halifax) - policy document is available online and I can't see any problems with the wording, have had confirmation that factory fit options are OK and they do not require a tracker so am still in two minds whether to get one.

Quote for me (36; 9yrs NCD protected; garaged in low risk area) - Pounds536 with Pounds500xs+Pounds150 voluntary (Pounds607 with Pounds0 voluntary). Have a nice spreadsheet I'm working thorugh at the moment (After members discount with the AA they only wanted Pounds1743 with Pounds1000xs!!!)

RichJ - it might be worth visiting a couple of brokers in your situation, have you had a co. car? My fathers just been having th same issue having not had insurance in his name for a couple of years since he retired but a broker got him a good intro discount.

Also Rich J - if you have had a company car your employer might write you a letter to certify you've had those three years incident free - it's certainly worth a go.

    Re: Just a reminder.....

Any more news re the meet? The suggestion of Silverstone would be good for me (my dealer is 5 minutes from there) but it seems like the majority of you guys live in the affluent south coast

Well it would be if we didn't keep going out and spending our money on cars!

BUT my other car is a Kia AND I work for a ship repair yard.

Ah, but what types of vessels are you repairing - Princess or Fairline yachts whose playboy owners have damaged them whilst trying to show off?

Ferries, tugs, container ships, dredgers, CAR CARRIERS, cruise ships but NOT yachts.

    Re: Just a reminder.....

It seems my pre-conceived notions of you guys being playboys in your open topped roadsters on the English riviera are somewhat incorrect then

We are driving the BoxsterS now for almost 4 weeks
I also cleaned the garage 4 weeks before delivery
The new Boxster S is absolutly great we just love it
It looks more spectaculair on the streets and the drive is super
The nighbours will love The sound off the engine.

What is wrong with F yacht owners.

    Re: Just a reminder.....

Nothing at all, Dedam. In fact Fairline manufacture them less than half a mile from my office.

Fairline is the Porsche from the yachts.

Nothing. But a 20m Fairline / Princess / Sunseeker (built in Poole about 25 miles from me) would look a bit lost in our drydock which is 365 metres long, 42 metres wide and 15 metres deep! (our dock was built in the 1930's for the "Queen Elisabeth" and "Queen Mary").

    Re: Just a reminder.....

That must be an impressive dock. I've taken the Queen Mary tour in Long Beach and that is an extremely large ship. There is a Russian submariine moored in front of it (Foxtrot class I think though I could be wrong) which, although large in itself, looks like a lifeboat next to the Queen Mary

    Re: Just a reminder.....

It is and a VERY hungry mouth to feed. I was a ship's engineer for some years before I came ashore and I sometimes wonder whether I have seawater or Mobil 1 in my veins. I would be a lot better off financially if I had neither.
