    Re: [2021] Mercedes C-Class (W206)

Looks like an update of the current model to mimic the GLA and based on the design elements of the new S Class.  The interior is definitely hackneyed.

    Re: [2021] Mercedes C-Class (W206)

And the news seems to be that the old V8 of the AMG 63 is going to be a 4 cyl hybrid cheeky

    Re: [2021] Mercedes C-Class (W206)

The car was designed to house only a four cylinder.  This excludes Mercedes excellent straight six.

    Re: [2021] Mercedes C-Class (W206)

AMG was one of the only companies who could make a turbo V8 sound good.

    Re: [2021] Mercedes C-Class (W206)

AMG is dead if they don't use those V8 engines anymore. Wanna bet?

What worked with the 45 and 53 models won't work with the more expensive 63 models.

Same issue Lamborghini will have once the V10 is gone in the Huracan: Only solution would be extreme performance, similar to McLaren but I do not see that happen because A. VW is greedy (profit per car) and B. it is almost impossible to lower weight, unless they go for a completely new platform.

Porsche was lucky with the 911 Carrera...or maybe because they offered attractive GT models instead, for those really interested in engine tech and sound.

Some cars are directly "connected" by people to certain features like sound, performance or looks. This is a blessing but also a curse for some manufacturers and their specific car models.

Btw: My Mercedes dealer told me recently that during an AMG video "training", they were told that the new Mercedes C class will have up to 700(!) hp in a very sporty version. Of course...700 hp and AWD in a C class with a 4-cylinder engine...this could do the trick (I still think that 700 hp would require at least a 6-cyl) but I have my doubts. Even then, it would be weird in my opinion.

    Re: [2021] Mercedes C-Class (W206)

I read somewhere it’s front wheel drive also.

the « eco-hybrid-electric » trend is going to kill the premium brands. I don’t understand why manufacturers like Mercedes don’t seem to see the trap they are falling into.

I also heard Porsche is looking to develop a synthetic fuel, called e-fuel, to save ICE cars. That’s the way to go.

    Re: [2021] Mercedes C-Class (W206)

On the hand, Lexus just revealed the IS500 F with a naturally aspirated V8.... A great move and given their reliability, should be a good purchase.

As an allegedly highly successful trader, you should understand that per unit profitability 1) enhances shareholder value and 2) funds future product investment.   There’s nothing greedy about setting and maintaining profitability targets.

    Re: [2021] Mercedes C-Class (W206)

I understand profitability but maintaining a certain profitability level without looking at the bigger picture, especially now, is a big mistake in my opinion. Look at the Taycan: I think that it had a great run for a while but may hit troubled waters, especially because of it's, in my opinion, exorbitant, price tag. Same goes to the Audi product equivalent.

I totally get them - no point anymore for big engines/HP in a daily banger. People want low consumption or be green(er). If you wanna buy big HP there is plenty other stuff

Not the people who usually buy these cars. Smiley My sales guy told me that he never sold as many AMG models as this year (end of 2020 when I talked to him), mostly V8 models and never so many G63s. People are afraid they won't exist anymore and they are right.

AMG lived off good sounding V8s, not sure how business will work out for them with V6s or worst...4-cyl. engines. The A45 AMG for example is a very nice little car but one reason I preferred the Trackhawk over it (I was actually planning to get the A45 as a daily driver) was the emotional part. It sounded like crap and it just didn't feel special.

Fully agree RC, and I'd take it further:  People who would have gone for the V8 emotion, may just skip the crappy 4cylinder evolutions and just go pure EV.... where at least you get V8 oomph....

    Makes sense. Smiley

Mercedes has another (in my opinion) serious problem in Germany: Lease cost. Way too expensive compared to the competition from BMW and Audi. No more V8 engines plus more expensive leases = bye bye Mercedes, especially AMG.

Saw yesterday a M8 Competition (MSRP 181k EUR), slightly used (8k km) for 121k EUR. Ouch. This thing has a V8.

To be honest: Before buying a crappy C63 with 6-cyl. or even 4-cyl. engine for 130k EUR, I'd prefer the Tesla S Plaid+ for the same money. Smiley

    Re: [2021] Mercedes C-Class (W206)

What has happened to the traditional Mercedes front grille? It has been abolished on all except the S class or customers prefer the one with the big star in the middle.

I haven't seen one on C and E  limousines for years now.

The original grille with which many generations grew up,  had something grandiose that separated Mercedes from the rest.

With this "sporty grille"  they all look similar from A class and beyond.

Smiley The rear is horrible, same as the new S class (or new E class).

The new S class looks hideous from the rear, I already know two guys who owned the previous model (S63) and didn't order the new one anymore. One of these guys got himself a Cullinan, something different (he wanted the new Ghost but kind of fell in love with the SUV). The other one is probably getting a G63 instead. Smiley

Because when one thinks of achingly beautiful automotive design, one immediately turns to the Cullinan?

He wanted the new Ghost first but then saw the Cullinan. You can say what you want but the Cullinan has something about it. It isn't beauty (the G63 isn't beautiful either Smiley) but some sort of wildness paired with elegance, opulence and just "in your face". Smiley
