I think wantone has hit the nail here; this is less a car and more a piece of powered art, reflecting as art does the talent of (mainly) a single person.  How many cars today can you say that about?

And how many pieces of art redline at 12,100 rpm? Smiley

Well, you could just enjoy that redline in your driveway.... over and over... registering zero miles. Smiley

The guys on this Forum who could afford the car but did not go for it will regret it smiley

I would exchange this one for a few Ferraris/Porsche/McLaren ...

No matter how good it is, or if it appreciates ( never my motive, as you know) - I would never get over that giant fan on the back and how poor it looks in the front for that matter.

I could live with the fan on the back, because there is a technical reason for it, but a car like this really deserves a better front, in this point I absolutely agree. Whenever I see the front of the T.50, it reminds me of this... Smiley

The XP2 prototype with limited revs was driven for the first time at the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold, Surrey, UK and just metres from where the T.50 will begin full production in January 2022. Its first test drive was personally undertaken by Professor Gordon Murray.

    Re: Gordon Murray - T.50

epic car - to me the silent hero is Cosworth supplying both engines for this and the Valkyrie.

    Re: Gordon Murray - T.50

Fantastic that they're able to move forward so quickly with this project. I'm not sure on the styling of this thing (to say the least) but the drivetrain should be epic.

Agree, just can't get over how the fan makes the back look. The front I'm warming up to.

Do you want technological innovation or pure aesthetics?  Nature doesn't always follow the path one would like.

    Re: Gordon Murray - T.50

I am not sure this is a car with a lot of technological innovations (except for the fan). Sure it is an extremely well designed for weight optimalisation and a further development of a NA V12. For me this is just an optimized McLaren F1 for the happy few. But still a great achievement for such a small company.

I'd like both to be combined in a beautiful package (hello Carrera GT). It's the least one should expect for what they're asking for it, no?

    Re: Gordon Murray - T.50

The T.50 is on a different plane in terms of down force, aerodynamic efficiency, lightweight construction, and packaging efficiency when compared with the Carrera GT.

But the Carrera GT is pretty wonderful and a relative bargain in comparison ($440k Original MSRP).

No argument about the Carrera GT.  The T.50 is a different automobile from that Porsche.

    Re: Gordon Murray - T.50

I agree it’s a steep curve as you climb the ladder of lightweight performance.

It's not the simplicity that bothers me, I love that on a McLaren F1. It's the hairdryer hanging out the back. Smiley

Concur.  In the not-too-distant future this automobile will be viewed as the swan song of the traditional internal combustion engine powered car. However, some of its technologies, notably the fan, will live on in other cars.  See Tesla’s SpaceX rocket technology allegedly used on the still vaporware Roadster as an example.

    Re: Gordon Murray - T.50

Still hoping to see his T43 design make it to production. 215hp for 1900 lbs seems okay to me.

I didn't know about this but the proposition sounds fantastic. Sign me up for that.

    Re: Gordon Murray - T.50

One finally spent the time to search for articles on the sophisticated aerodynamics of the T.50  Linked is an excellent article, with video, on Drive Tribe.  The videos and graphics provide a greater argument than I am able to provide through the written word.

    https://drivetribe.com/p/a-deep-dive-into-the-crazy-aerodynamics-aGNQC0w0Q5WVAUH8d5pHww?iid=bsaWCGEBQsaRXqLf5ratBA

The comment about the windshield wiper reminded me that my exceedingly rare, for North America, 1988 Audi Coupé GT quattro, possessed a similar feature on the driver's side wiper arm.  While Audi did offer the 90 quattro sedan in this market for many years, it only marketed the Coupé GT quattro for that model's final year.  The numbers sold were minuscule; however, it did posses a larger, more power five cylinder engine over the other variants.  At the time it was a whopping 130 bhp from a 2.2l versus 110 bhp from a 2.1l motor found in earlier models.
