Carerra GT is God in a 997/S Showroom.

Travelling and I'm bored, head into the local Porsche dealership. I'm still not sure about GT Silver vs. AS for my eventual 997 order.

There's a carerra GT sitting there but it's cordoned off. I tell the guy I've been talking to about the 997/S that I want to get closer to check out the paint color. He tells me not to, incredulous, I do it anyway, it's seems the whole showroom starts screaming at me, as I lean over and almost touch the paint with my nose to check the color.

BFD! People treat that car like it's GOD! Funny.

Re: Carerra GT is God in a 997/S Showroom.

At my Porsche dealer they have a Carrera GT and they were really nice about it. They even opppened the engine bay and let me view the interior with the door open! if you guys want i have pictures.

Same with me... I was at a dealer, talking with a salesman about the new bpxster S, when he told me to take a look in the back. A CGT had been delivered to the dealer, people were wiping off the rain etc, and gave me the opportunity to admire the interior, take some pics, opened the engine bay for me... etc... very nice of them, regarding I saw the car earlier than the owner!

I was around my local dealer a week ago to pick my S up and it was parked next to a GT which was brand new, in yellow, and raised up on a ramp. Wish I had my camera, as the two cars next to each other looked fantastic, especially as mine had just been detailed. The service manager left me alone and said have a good look - walking under the GT (it was on a ramp) and looking at all that carbon fibre was impressive - the suspension arms looked to be carbon as well but are in fact steel. No drama at all having a good look around the GT. Dont know about it being a god, but its a very cool piece of automotive history

Re: Carerra GT is God in a 997/S Showroom.

    The GT is expensive business
Apparently, according to my dealer the clutch costs Pounds15,000 + Pounds3,000 labour to replace and only weighs 8lbs and any one driving the car has to have specific training.
God knows how they set up test drives

Re: Carerra GT is God in a 997/S Showroom.

May be they were just making sure the new owner gets a pristine half a million dollar car? I've seen some new 911's in the show room that had lots of scuff marks from people hoping in and out. I don't blame the dealer for keeping people away from the CGT.

Re: Carerra GT is God in a 997/S Showroom.

I would love to see the pictures of the engine. Would you post please?

These are the pics I took of the engine bay when I saw it at the dealer.

Thanks for those pictures. There in my collection now

Re: Carerra GT is God in a 997/S Showroom.

Seems to me like they were being pretty impolite. One would have thought they would actually be interested in attracting customers to the brand even though you might end up purchasing a car from a different dealer...or better still, they could even try to poach you from another dealer!

Thanks for the look at those pictures!

    WHAT A GORGEOUS ENGINE COMPARTMENT!!!

If I had a billion dollars I would buy two CGTs, one to drive and one to put in one of my living rooms.

With a Billion dollers i would have 8, 1 for each day of the week and 1 for my living room

Re: Thanks for the look at those pictures!

In reality it is even more impressive... the car is really stunning. it hugs the ground, and with a push of a button, the hood opens hydraulically... slowly revealing what lies beneath. When you finally dare glimpsing at it, you see the carbon fiber "cage" like a combination of a harness and muscles... it really looks like an animal... it takes your breath away... at least, it took away mine, even more because I was only expecting to spot some 987's...

Re: Thanks for the look at those pictures!

I had the same feeling when i went to see a GT silver Carrera GT at my local Porsche dealer last friday. When the Sales guy owned the engine bay revealing the V10 i was blown away.
