Looks great.  Today we witnessed the debut of two real tremendous cars-one tied to the past and the other bringing in the future.

Wow, great-looking car, and impressive they kept the weight down to that level given the batteries / hybrid system.  To me the styling is also good, an evolution rather than a revolution for a change, and nicely smooths out the rough edges of the 570 platform.  Clever interior as well, I think they do this much better than most.  A lot to like about this in my opinion.

Stunning, fresh looking car I'd say. Will be interesting to see what it is capable of

Re: McLaren Artura - coming 17 February 2021

    looks very cool. love it.

Re: McLaren Artura - coming 17 February 2021

Very innovative product and should help cement McLaren as a credible long term automaker.

Re: McLaren Artura - coming 17 February 2021

Definitely much better looking than the previous GT series. And, like with most McLarens, I have a feeling it's going to look much better in the metal. The way they've sculpted their latest cars doesn't really translate too well to 2D.

Re: McLaren Artura - coming 17 February 2021

First McLaren that really triggers my interest. I like both the looks and the technology. If the exhaust sound is racy enough this could be a very interesting sports car to use as a daily driver

Re: McLaren Artura - coming 17 February 2021

Hmm, it looks like a face lifted version of the 570...........

And look, they put the battery down low! Not like how they did with the P1 and claimed that was the proper way to put heavy stuff in the car Pretty much proof that they put hybrid system in the P1 as an afterthought to counter the 918. Hack job is the proper term to describe the P1. Almost forgot, they didn't used an oversized starter motor as a EV motor now, they got a proper one integrated with the gearbox.

The rest of the tech in the car is pretty impressive. They overhauled the electric control system, simplifying the wiring for the CAN bus system. Also electrified the accessories like HVAC and stuff. Also used a hot V configuration for the V6. And a proper e-Diff instead of using rear brakes as the diff.

Very impressive car from McLaren, this is a proper product from the top notch engineering firm that is McLaren we always knew they are.

The Artura should be the nail in the coffin for the NSX if that car hasn't died yet.

Tempting for me to get back in a McLaren now that the 992s are all fat and ugly.

Great product! It has the looks, the tech und also the performance. Looking forward to the reviews in May/June.

Which would you rather have? The Artura or the Roma? My first concern with the Artura is the massive depreciation.

Re: McLaren Artura - coming 17 February 2021

If I get to choose 2 cars, it would probably be 2 seat RWD (like the Artura or the Evo RWD I’m waiting on) and a 4 door AWD EV. The Roma is interesting, but the two tiny rear seats are kind of a waste for a 2 car setup IMO. If I hadn’t bought my wife the S550 cab last year I would be buying an EQS for Euro delivery. For a little more money and some more waiting, I’d see what Bentley or Rolls will offer as an EV.

I would take the Roma, not because it is a better car, but because I have a soft spot for classic front-engine GTs, while the Artura is a daily useable super-sportscar. If I did not have to choose between the two though, my ideal garage at the moment would consist of both the Roma and the Artura (And the Audi eTron GT RS for mundane everyday driving).

Re: McLaren Artura - coming 17 February 2021

The Artura (who chose this name? angry) is really a successful facelift of the 570 series and looks wise it has a nice 2 seat mid engine supercar style. The plug-in hybrid technology is an unnecessary complication for some extra HP but that's how things are moving unfortunately.

The Roma is a nice Ferrari in the classic "la Dolce Vita" style and IMO the best looking Ferrari for many years. However, what it can do several other cars can equal with less money and with proven usability and robustness in daily driving. I am sure a BMW M850i will more than equal Roma in its remit for a fraction of the cost and without unnecessary maintenance worries.

I have a soft spot for McLaren from F1 and if I had everything else in life I would like to own one. However, since the new GT3 is with us now,  this is the pinacle for me in the way I value the qualities of a sportscar.

Re: McLaren Artura - coming 17 February 2021

I see it in a completely different way.

Hybrids is a NECESSARY addition to cars if fans still wants a combustion engine enjoyment. Without the electric help, car manufacturers won't be able to meet arbitrary and unnecessary strict emission standards designed for political reasons.

Electric HP help is almost like a freebie too, on top of whatever output the combustion engine is already producing.

Performance hybrids are the 'current' future, before EVs completely takes over dude to government regulations.

Bravo to McLaren to follow Porsche's footsteps in making performance hybrids. Would have been better if they paired the hybrid system with a V8, but at least a strong V6 is good enough and they didn't went cheap and go for 4 cylinders.

    What is proper e-Diff?

To me this kind of design with the carbon tub may fit a race car or a toy but it is not a good design for a street car that you want to drive it often.

I would prefer the NSX or the 911 for a good price difference.

Smiley McLaren did the right thing, even if they had to. Others will follow.

I just hope the tech is reliable. Smiley
