We've done about 800 miles and it's showing 13.7mpg or 20.6l/100km, revs being kept below 4000 and driven quite gently although mostly town driving.

Thanks a lot TB993tt for the information. It will be interesting to know how it will change when you will do more miles on it. Overally you are satisfied with the car? Because I am planning to put one on order this week...

Like I said we have been driving pretty gently and mostly in towns, I think if one drove the car more like an AMG the consumption would be quite a lot more, it has a consumption feature which gives you a reading approx every 6 or so minutes (not sure exactly how that works and haven't read the manual !) and it becomes tempting to try and be very gentle on the throttle to get a good number there which kind of defeats the object of a 580hp motor 

Overall we are very satisfied with the car the ride is nothing like the luxo barge Range Rover Vogues which we had for the previous two cars, and is quite agricultural relatively but it gets round corners easily enough with a seemingly very well controlled chassis set up. On the few occasions recently I have opened the throttle up it simply roars towards the horizon like a large powerboat which is an hilarious thing to do...

I'm sure everyone knows this but we were quite shocked how high up the car is, shorter people and kids literally have to climb up and into it. My Mrs had a Cesarean a few weeks ago and she hasn't been able to get into the car, I had to bring her home in my Vito which is the easiest vehicle to get into - she threw up all over the footwell (all the drugs) so we were laughing that is was a good job the G was so high and didn't get trashed !!

In the UK now it is pretty impossible to pay for any special treatment (maybe in London but no where else) so the NHS  turf Cesarean patients out of hospital after 24 hours so they still have quite a lot of stuff in their systems - too much info I know but fairly traumatic

Seriously?  My wife spent four days after the first one and three days after the second one in the hospital, usually you stay 2-3 days after a Cesarean, sometimes up to a week.

Glad to hear everyone is OK  (including the G ) 24hrs? that is cutting it close, what about through private hospital/insurance in UK? would it be any different? I remember they had my wife stay several days after her C-section.

my wife stayed 5 days at the clinic  for each of our boys ..... and she had no cesarian . She just found it was more comfortable to be in the clinic then back home with all the work it involved .  Normally it is 3 days if no cesarian but the doctor agreed she needed to rest a bit more

Thanks guys, yes we are a bit stuck in the UK our left wing NHS does not allow any mechanism for private Cesareans and there are no private hospitals set up for this outside London also apparently it is almost impossible for surgeons to get insurance cover to operate privately.

We have the situation where you don't even know who the Consultant/Registrar is going to be even when you have an elective Cesarian (as we did), fortunately our Registrar was a 29 year old Irish guy who told us he'd done 100 Cesarians without mishap  and he had an older lady Consultant with him who was instructing/collaborating closely. 

One of my Sisters in Law is a Consultant at a different hospital and she says the 24 hour thing is to release beds and save money scary stuff and in this case it seems that you can't buy a better safer service

Doctors of course prefer private health insurances because they usually pay better.

Officially, the German health system is equal, nobody gets a special treatment but in reality, if you have a private health insurance, you get lots of benefits. Want an appointment at an ophthalmologist or at a pediatrist? Any doctor with a speciality? Waiting time can be up to 3-6 months. No kidding. If you have a private health insurance, you get usually an appointment within a few days, sometimes on the same day. Speaking of equality.  All privately insured patients of my wife have her cell number and can contact her on weekends as well. Another example of a flawed health insurance system. 

This is another reason why emergency rooms over here are filled up at maximum capacity because if people can't get an appointment at a doctor, they go to the emergency room for every little crap they have, incl. diarrhea, headaches, colds, tummy aches and similar stuff. 

Once you create a semi-socialist health system, don't be surprised if it comes back to bite you in the ass.

Me and my family have private insurance, for ER problems I use either one (goverment ER doesn't work bad at all in this part of Spain), but for regular healthcare I use private, since you choose the doctor and you get an appointment with little wait. Also helps that many are friends or acquaintance so there is also some special treatment which I appreciate.

I could not imagine living in a place were not being able to pick who I want to treat me, or having to wait a month or more for an appointment, that would be a serious problem, healthcare is one of the big essentials for quality of life.

For example speaking of the process of giving birth, my wife had a planned C-section because she was having premature contractions problems, and the whole experience was great. The owner of the private maternity hospital, a gynecologist, is a close friend and a patient of ours, and felt right at home in a single room with private bathroom, nurses were great and took great care of my wife, and stayed for as long as needed, and private insurance took care of everything. Things like that are priceless to me.

In the UK we can (and I do) pay for private health insurance from commercial outfits and it covers for Consultants and most operations but for regular GP doctor appointments you pretty much have to queue with the masses.

Cesareans are a unique case because as I said it is near impossible to get anything above the NHS treatment which I described. I'm not going to slag it off as apart from the 24 hour turf out it was a pretty good service which apparently costs the NHS £13K av compared to normal V birth ~£3K..... just pisses me off that there should be some mechanism where they could take some money off me,(trust me I would have paid plenty as I was cr@pping myself) to give a higher level of service and then stick the money back into the system, I hate socialism

Typical... for therm its better that everybody is forced to have the same basic service than to allow some pay more for more service even if that extra revenue in turn subsidizes a better universal service for everyone than without it  

In Spain if you go through the NHS everybody gets the same service as well, but through private insurance you can access the same services as in the NHS, only better since its private, so you can go without ever needing to use the NHS. Whether its child birth with C-section or anything, and you get to choose the doctors, small to no waiting lists, better service like longer stays, etc. So it's OK. Also private insurance is not ridiculously expensive, there are different levels, but middle class can afford a basic coverage plan. But again, the more you pay the better the coverage.

The engine water temperature seems to stay relatively low, is this common to the 4.0 twin turbo lump or has the G got big ass radiators, or am I not driving it hard enough !

Ah, OK...you guys read it wrong. No problem, it happens. Thank god, 53°C water temperature would have indeed been way too low. 

Actually, I sometimes wonder how important the tranny temp is and if I should wait until it gets really warm. It takes forever...

What's the consensus on the 4.0 biturbo motor in the 2016 G500 vs the 5.5 na engine in the 2015 G500? 

I'm looking to get one as the used prices are very good, less than 50k euros for both the 2015 and 2016 G500 and G63. 

I prefer the G500 over the 63 and prefer it's looks as well as the ability to put smaller rims and itsi more comfortable ride.

Yep, I always would prefer the AMG over the 500/550 but I had a n/a G550 as a rental car in the US a couple of years ago and loved the car, including the sound (side pipes). I can understand his difficulty to choose.

50k only? In what condition? You cannot find a decent G63 over here in Germany for this kind of money, not even a G55.

Well the UAE might have the largest concentration of g wagons worldwide...... With the release of the latest g class everyone is trying to get rid of their older ones. 

Yes 50k for ta 2015 and 16 G500 or G63 in excellent condition with less than 60,000 km  with warranty. The current economy does help as well as not too many people buying. 

For the same price I have a model 3 on order, it's an easy choice 

I want to take it offroad alot so that's why I prefer the 500 as it has better approach angles and can fit smaller than 19" wheels. The deep rumble on the 63 is out of this world. The 63 would also cost more for maintenance. 

What's makes it a hard choice is that both cost almost the same due to the large number of 63s available for sale. 

It's such a nice vehicle to drive and a keeper..... I got to say, newer cars excite me less so between this and the gt3 touring, I can't ask for much more .
