    Re: GT4RS

I don't get all this testing,... it's been testing for the past year already and it won't be out for another year... I don't remember them testing the GT3 cars this much.

     2 1/2 years.

Mostly it was running at Weissach, with them getting it out on the Ring, that means it's really close to done.

Sort of around average. I see it being announced and released by end of year if not beginning of next year.

The innovative intake track took the longest time, but it's actually released for the 718GT4CS already.

Ring testing means final suspension tuning. I don't see them putting the adjustable KW on the race car on the street car, so I think they are tuning the street car shocks to mimic the KWs.

Launch was postponed because of covid, than can be a reason.

Not sure what they can gain from GT3RS suspension bits.

The Clubsports have the whole front clip off a Cup car, so race car bits, don't think they are going to use those on a street car. I think they retain the strut setup for the GT4RS, that means no 911 bits.

I don't think they will put cup car setup. they never did for the cherished 911 so no chance for the younger one. they could try to copy rose joint here and there as they did on the 991.2 GT3RS and add stiffer springs compared to the GT4 and you will have a RS tool.

So will be released after the new GT3 it seems?

    Re: GT4RS

No idea about US, but locally the sale starts 07/21 with production from 09/21.

    Re: GT4RS

Boris, do you know anything about the GT3 or RS releases ?

I do: GT3 sale starts (always regarding our region) 01/21 with production from 03/21 (Touring 05/21 and 07/21 respectively). RS nothing specific (yet).

    Re: GT4RS

Saw a few claims lately that the GT4 RS will have 500 HP and cost Euro 130k (not sure if this price is before VAT or not)

That would make it a pretty fast  GT Porsche for the price.

About 450 to 480 range but good luck to differentiate it from 500 Smiley

For the price tag, I think this is without VAT and of course without all fancy options.

Will this version of the Cayman be allowed to outrun the 992 GT3?

If yes, it will be a very expensive car. If no, the new GT3 will be super fast.

    Curious about that also...

    Re: GT4RS

They usually set the gearing in a way that it will not cannibalize the GT3 - but who knows...

    Re: GT4RS

True. On the current GT4 the high gearing is heavily criticized as a significant imperfection on an otherwise superb driver's car. It didn't go unnoticed on its own, without any comparison to other cars.

    Re: GT4RS

Porsche has never built their “best possible” car on the mid engine platform, unless you’re willing to spend Carrera GT or 918 money. This will not be different. It’s about corporate culture, accounting and marketing, not car enthusiasm at Porsche for the 986, 987, 981 and 718. Where’s the 960? I’m sure some board meeting killed that to protect the rear engine platform. Wake me up when Porsche is serious about mid-engine...

The 944 Turbo could have been significantly faster than the 911 turbo at the time. This isn't a new phenomena...

It would negate the warrantee (though I'm not sure I know how they would realistically know it was done without tearing your car apart) but changing the gearing is fairly straightforward and would transform the GT4. Nicely spaced gears with a terminal velocity of 175-180ish in top gear and you'd have a rocketship.

    Re: GT4RS

Nobody actually expected Porsche to stick a 911 engine in a Cayman in the first place, so maybe they will surprise us again? However, I think it will be marginally slower than the new GT3, maybe on par with the upcoming GTS.

I thought it was said that changing the gears in the GT4 was not an easy swap because of the electronics?
