Mike S:I love the fact that they even bothered with a gearbox like this! My order went in yesterday. It should be here at the end of the year. Going to be an interesting experience
Congrats It also has a manually operated pull up handbrake....One note about dogleg pattern gearboxes, On pre 1972 911 Porsche 5spds and on all 914's on hard acceleration, you could do the 1st to 2nd shift quickly by just making a slightly angled forward gearshift motion instead going up, right, up as shown on the shift pattern. The AM 1 - 2 gear change linkage might be capable of doing the same. The only thing nicer AM could have included is a no lift shifting shifting feature like some other makers now include.

Congrats, I have one (coupe) on order too for later this year!
The GT4 is truly epic, but I have been missing my old V12V lots too - Astons are just more than the sum of their parts or performance alone. I briefly flirted with the option of ordering a GT8 but couldn't get over the issue of price and only having 8 cyclinders so when this was announced soon afterwards I jumped at the chance of adding one to the stable again.
So what colour / spec have you gone for Mike? Coupe or Roadster? Did you go for the old style CF bonnet vents or are you chancing your luck with the new mesh grilles?

SciFrog:Astons are a great ownership experience. I would rather drive my 8 year old V8 roadster than any 991 except for a 991 R convertible...
Well, it certainly sounds better than a 911...

Mithras:I love my dogleg 901 gearbox. 2-4 in an H works so much better.
I had a dog-leg 5spd in my first German car, 1979 635CSi Euro-Spec Gray market with Close-ratio transmission and Alpina LSD. It cost me $3,700 and I had it six years. Loved the shifting pattern!
My friend has a 1972 Pantera that shares the same dog-leg pattern too (ZF gearbox).

Just noticed this part of your post!
They have included it, and have called it AMSHIFT. It allows rev matching on downshifts (GT4 style) and it also enables flat shifting on upshifts (I.e. no need to lift off the gas pedal!)
The seven-speed manual transmission features a classic dog-leg first gear position; an echo from the past that will be welcomed by driving enthusiasts. This dog-leg configuration also ensures the gears used most frequently are located in a double ‘H‘ pattern like that of a conventional 6-speed manual.
The new manual transmission also features AMSHIFT. The system, which is driver selectable uses clutch, gear position and propshaft sensors, together with finely-tuned programming of the engine management, to mimic the technique of heel-and-toe downshifts; the act of blipping the throttle while braking and changing gear. AMSHIFT also offers the capability of full-throttle upshifts for maximum smoothness and minimal interruption in acceleration.
AMSHIFT can be used in all driving modes, but is especially effective in Sport, with the sharper throttle response and louder exhaust note really emphasising the downshift throttle blip for maximum excitement.

WOW
This is the first review of his I have watched. He is terrific though I disagree with his conclusions. If you follow his logic about a car is not about numbers then the best car on the road is something like a Miata or a Lotus and so on. Why spend over $200,000 when you get have something as fun for around $50,000.
Of little, to make much: That is the dream of a human life.
Comparing a Miata to a Aston is like comparing a Shitzu to a Weimaraner because both are dogs with 4 legs or ditch water to Evian because they are liquids.
I am really interested in the next version of the AM V8 because Porsches, although they have really good performance have become so clinical. If the 911R was a standard production model and priced near a 991 S that would be great. I don't care about lap times per se, I just want to have fun driving and its got to look and sound good or why splash the cash. And as good as PDK is for track use, it is boring otherwise and Porsche 7spd manuals are geared for eternity. So whats left

Well, it certainly sounds better than a 911...
... but if you talk about an 8 year old 997 the sound of the Porsche is quiet amazing

Thank you Adam! Congrats to you too
The dealer said my car should arrive in November of this year, so the wait isn't too long! I had the same debate with the GT8, the price was just too ludacris for me irregardless of how limited the car is.
I went for Skyfall Silver with Aurora Blue interior with the lightweight seats. Coupe car of course! Yourself?
Stayed with the original CF vents, they don't bug me as much as it does some other owners. I quite liked them on my old V12 which I'm trading it in for.
My car arrived at the dealership this afternoon, so popped down after work for a quick photo. Car was literally just off the factory delivery wagon just one hour earlier and still needed cleaning and a PDI, but I am rather happy with my bold choice of Q special paint in Kermit Green! I managed to secure one of the last ever sets of V12 Zagato wheels too which still need to be fitted.
