I have no idea why the red color looks so washed in the video. It has something to do with the YouTube upload...

In reality it’s a bright red. Similar to Coca Cola red.

What is the attraction of this car? A Mini Cooper looks better and probably is safer and cheaper. Also, for a DD I want something that is safe. I would hate to be in an accident in this car. It looks like it would crushed along with its passengers like an accordion.cheeky I don’t get it.

Does it occur to you that some people buy a car because of the way it drives?

    Re: Toyota Yaris GR

I've had my long awaited test yesterday. I wasn't allowed to drive it alone, the salesman had to come with me 'because it's a very powerful car"

But the car itself, whow. I really, really enjoyed it. You feel a depth of engineering through every facet of the car, the gearshift feel so tight/precise for example. Unlike anything you've experienced in a car of this class. The chassis feels incredibly tied down and feels like it could take all the abuse you could throw at it. I was impressed by the grip it found in greasy conditions. The brakes feel very powerful, same feeling, they would last even on track. The engine feels strong, more so than expected, very much forced induction in character but charming because of it. The seats are great, and the points of contact felt nice, the steering wheel and the gear knob especially feel like quality items. The rest of the interior unfortunately is a joke. Very, bland and plasticky. Seating position is way too high for me and strangely the rearview mirror is completely in your line of sight if you're tall, so much so that I'd have to remove it.

The points aside, completely in love with that car. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for my girlfriend, she was horrified when she saw the photos.

    Re: Toyota Yaris GR

Nberry, what’s not to like (apart from its looks)? Small car, big hp numbers, awd rally tech, reasonable price and a manual?

You don’t have to like it, but being on this forum (owning a RS) and not recongizing the possible attraction? 👀

What makes you think the GR Yaris isn’t safe???

It’s actually a really fast car, I guess especially for the size. Here is one with exhaust and airbox only mod running 0-100kmh in 4.52s despite being a manual car and having to change to third to hit 100kmh!

    Re: Toyota Yaris GR

Look, I get that many of you are enamored with the  performance of a small toss-able car. But most of you own high performance cars designed for high speeds and drivability. For that you pay six figures.

This car is very small light weight car dangerous enough not to be allowed to be driven on US street. It will not come close to out performing your high performance sport cars but dangerous enough to get you killed at less than high speeds.

Finally, it's downright ugly. It's no wonder women wouldn't want to be seen driving in nor their husbands/boyfriends.

This car is not a substitute for those cars, it's a car that will still allow you to enjoy driving when you can't drive such a car, you can drive it anywhere, park it anywhere, etc. perfect daily driver for a petrol head compared to today's boring people movers.

Tommi Makinen was advisor on the development of this car. It is a rally car similar to the Delta Integrale. The Mini in FWD. This is 4wd car and can send up to 70% of torque in the rear. 1.6 lt engine with 270 PS output? You won't find this in the Mini.

It is very rare that someone will build such a car today.

It actually doesn't look bad in real life, but it's a daily driver, you drive a Honda SUV I believe, I don't get the difference?

No snow in San Diego, but for those of us who do some real winter driving this car is lots of fun I bet (I do enjoy my Evo for this purpose during weather that I wouldn't bring my 911's out of the garage).

For anyone that has a doubt in their mind about why a Toyota Yaris GR is already a popular choice as a stable mate for Porsche owners, watch this video...  E0F26BDD-E91B-4EF4-964B-7C4204B9E420.gif

...the GR is brilliantly engineered as a WRC homologation with the driving characteristics tuned by rally drivers...  E0F26BDD-E91B-4EF4-964B-7C4204B9E420.gif

“From the outset, the development team worked closely with Tommi Mäkinen Racing to better understand how their goals could be achieved. It was a detailed and labour-intensive process, but one which has yielded strong results in terms of a car that has an ideal combination of rigid, lightweight construction, an agile and responsive chassis and a powerful yet compact turbo engine. Professional rally drivers, including members of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team, drove the prototype models and provided valuable feedback.”

I drive a RR. I'm sure there will be a lot of videos on line extolling the virtues of the car. If it was designed to be a knock off rally car why would anyone want this  as a DD? Smiley

Yes, one way road, thank god 😄

Cobbled roads aren't that bad, at least when you can keep your speed up. Lots of them in my neck of the woods.

You used to drive a Honda HRV at one point if I remember correctly.

It's not a knock off, it's an homologation special, and that is precisely why it's a great DD!
