According to GT Purely Porsche, they're expected to hit dealerships in Europe in the Summer of 2005. No word on the US debut though.

If the various 997 versions are being introduced so rapidly one after another, it would seem to suggest the entire 997 production run will not go anywhere near as long as the 996 series ( late 1997 to even now ) . If it did, we would still be seeing some 997 versions being built in 2012 !

k, we've done some more work to establish the veracity of the claims.
From our man in Germany who took the pics we've established
- the car is registered to Porsche
- the pics were taken within a 30 minute drive of Porsche's HQ
- the photographer had a good look under the car and established it is 4 wheel drive
- wheels had Carrera 4 inscribed
- interior and brakes were typical for an S
- it's not the new GT3 (totally standard interior including rear seats)
- it's not the new turbo, because there weren't any side air intakes and no turbocharger
- the photographer had to run away because the driver of the car wasn't amused when he saw him with a camera!

you kidding? you can always retrofit!
Actually, if the 997S behaves OK at high speeds and no front end floating anymore, then no aerokit for me, besides did you see how low that front lip is? there is no way I could even park it in my own garage with the -20mm suspensions
But how about yourself? will this make you take the plunge?
BTW looks like a CarreraS with an aerokit, not a GT3 from the outside. Its has sunroof, park assist and rear wiper. The aerokit is still missing the side skirts though.
Also notice the SPORT EXHAUST's tips! (very ugly BTW, one being smaller diameter than the other one :P ) this means the sport exhaust should be out soon? and that means my 997S is too!
