New Aston Martin Twin Turbo V12 Begins Production in Germany

Production of Aston Martin’s new twin-turbo V12 has begun in earnest in Germany.
The engine being produced at Aston’s Cologne, Germany production facility is the brand new 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that will be used in the new DB11. Since opening in 2004, the production center has produced approximately 40,000 V12 engines for various Aston models.

This new 5.2-liter engine was designed entirely in-house by Aston and develops 608PS and 700Nm of torque. These output figures mean that the DB11 will be the most powerful production DB car ever produced by Aston Martin. Thanks in large part to its V12 engine, the DB11 is able to hit a top speed of 200 mph and accelerate to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

As with a large majority of modern performance engines, this V12 engine features intelligent cylinder bank activation and stop-start technology in order to help reduce emissions and increase overall efficiency.
All engines will be assembled by a sole assembly technician whose name will appear on a plaque atop the engine itself once completed. Each engine takes 8 hours and Aston expects to produce 8,000 engines per year.
Expect to see the new 5.2-liter V12 in the DB11 during the fourth quarter of 2016

The real question will be how does it sound like?

I gotta say im really warming up to the DB11. Played around the aston configurator the other day and the car looks really good in come color combos. Now I'm starting to get my hopes up for the design of the new Vantage.

The Vantage is always the most value-oriented model.  They all look similar (very pretty), but the Vantage costs far less than the others.  With AMG power, it should scoot pretty well too (but disappointed that the rumors suggest less than C63S power).

Aston Martin Posts $172 Million Loss in 2015

Aston Martin has released their financial statements for fiscal year 2015.
For fiscal year 2015, the British sports car manufacturer posted a pre-tax loss of $172.03 million. The loss marks the fifth consecutive year that the company has posted a financial loss and failed to make a profit. The substantial loss sustained in 2015 was due to lower than expected car sales as well as increased investment in expansion.

Compared to the company’s pre-tax loss of 71.8 million pounds in 2014, their 2015 pre-tax loss is a substantial increase of just a hair of 56 million pounds.

According to Aston, they sold a total of 3,615 cars last year, a decrease from the previous year’s 3,661 sales figure. Despite the lower sales volume, Aston expects to see about a 20 percent rise in core earnings as it begins sales of the brand new DB11.

Looking forward, Aston expects this years sales volume to broadly match the sales figures of 2015.
Despite the growing losses of the past five years, Aston is hopeful that its new lineup, including the much anticipated DBX crossover will help the company get closer to turning a profit.

    Re: Aston DB11

No surprise. For example I see nothing that makes we want to upgrade my 9 year old Vantage Roadster... No new design, no new gearbox, marginally better engine... The only thing maybe is the infotainment system but since the factory offers Bluetooth streaming update for the old models and I use waze for navigation it is a moot point. The car has been basically problem free so carry costs for the past 4-5 years have been very good. The interior is a s pristine as new and it sounds amazing especially with the top down. A great purchase in retrospect despite having only two seats.

    Re: Aston DB11

Not really a surprise. They are outclassed by all competition IMO.

Im surprised you didn't trade it in for the Rapide since you are a big fan of 4 seaters.

They only sell 8 per year though.

I'm pretty sure the Panamera is way better too...

Panamera got nothing on the Rapide.

But the Rapide's rear seats are completely useless and it does not sound anywhere near as good as the Ferraris.

    Re: Aston DB11

the rear seats on the rapide are not great but far from useless. just consider it being a 2+2

and i agree that while in the tech department the car is ancient, it has a great chassis a great engine and sound.

as for looks i find it in a league of its own.

i consider aston to be a niche manufacturer and they have their own style. they should continue with that. trying to go against the big ones in what they do best will result in the demise of aston.

certainly the panamera is better in all aspects than a rapide. but put them side by side and i doubt anyone would grap the panameras keys.

You are right versus the Panamera but not the FF/ GTC4Lusso . And to be clear, I agree Aston make beautiful looking cars but I have to admit they are always a let down once I drive them. That Zagato that was just revealed is breathtaking.

    Re: Aston DB11

DB11 looks absolutely amazing on these live photos. There is something special about AM and their design philosophy. Car is endlessly elegant, but not boring kiss

Well, yes, much better than Lamborghini and McLaren.

There's an old Roz Chast cartoon referred to as "Dressed to the Sixes" (sorry, I couldn't find a copy of it to post) that shows, in three frames, a woman: Dressed very nicely but plainly with the caption, "Dressed to the Sixes." Dressed for a night out with the caption, "Dressed to the Nines." Dressed in a totally crazy bizarre outfit with the caption, "Dressed to X the Unknown."

Lamborghini and McLaren are Dressed to X the Unknown. The DB11 is Dressed to the Tens.

You mean, they didn't follow the Spinal Tap maxim and overdo things by "turning it up to 11", just to stay in synch with the model designation.  Smiley
