    My new ride

My new car arrived today. It's one of the last (in fact two cars I was told) 991 GT3 CUPs. It seems that my addiction towards racing reached another level and I'm not too sure if it's the smartest thing I've ever done. Anyway, car will get an ABS, we'll try to add an ESP, second seat and other stuff; livery will be added next week. If all goes well, I'll do some testing end of this week. It's a long time ago that I've been that exited having a new ride.

    Cheers
    Rick

    That's amazing Rick!

Out of curiosity; how does it work to buy such a car? Do you have to be part of a racing team, or can you just buy one off the shelf as an individual? And then? You have a mechanics shop prepare the car for you and you trailer it to trackdays?

I think it looks the bees knees with the all white body. Will you keep it that way, or will it be painted/wrapped?

Sorry for all these questions; don't mean to pry, just being curious wink

Thanks for the kind words guys.

    >>After this as the track toy, no RS will satisfy you.
Unfortunately (moneywise)  this is the case. I had some seat time in a CUP (and GT4 CS) and was hooked. It's hard to describe the performance and sensation in that car. Actually I was leaning more towards a LMP3, but that has to wait for now.

You buy the car (and parts) at your Porsche dealer and - depending on the dealer - they will also take care. I am with a racing a team and they organized everything, effectively buying the car at my dealer. Delivery of these cars is though Manthey over here. The first picture was taken there.  But there is a lot more to buy than just the car; like additional wheels, rain tires, ABS, ESP (if one likes), second seat, intercom, lap timer / race logic stuff, etc etc.

    >>You have a mechanics shop prepare the car for you and you trailer it to trackdays?
Yes. In theory it is possible to drive the CUP without mechanics but it makes more sense (and is more enjoyable) if one is around. There are a number of maintenance procedures during the day and also when preparing the car for the track.

    >>I think it looks the bees knees with the all white body. Will you keep it that way, or will it be painted/wrapped?
The car will get a wrap and I rented some of the space to collect money for a local charity. Not sure if everything works out as expected, but I'm positive

Cup car selling rule is more lax, any individual can pretty much buy a car. But normally each year's production are all sold so it's rare to have perhaps more than a handful left to be bought.

It's better to be supported by a race team but it's not a requirement, it's more work to support the Cup car than a GT4 Clubsport, but modern Cup cars aren't too complicated. Rebuild schedule for the engine and gearbox have been extended and outside of that, it's mostly fluid change and lubrication of joints.

And that's where all Cup cars are finished at, the final assembly of Cup cars are done at Meuspath. Smiley

    Re: My new ride

Here is a picture of the second final assembly. That blue box is the Race Logic system (which is actually very nice, not as portable as a Race Navigator, but with more data from the CAN). Other stuff has been unmounted to get the ABS in, like the middle console which gets an additional dial. Because I want a second seat a foot rest has to be mounted to protect the fire extinguisher

Bildschirmfoto 2020-11-25 um 19.23.31.pngSome more shots showing the brakes, joints and exhaust system. The car comes without side mufflers and is driven in this configuration in e.g. Carrera Cup. For my taste even a car with side mufflers is way too loud to drive without ear plugs. The mesh I installed in the RS is part of that add-on.

That sounds like a lot of fun... I could imagine staying overnight in that place pictured above. I also think that acquiring a Cup car is next level... let's see where it leads you. At some point we will have enough members for a Rennteam endurance renn team... race team...
