Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

So, two guys have bought one?

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

    Thanks four your kind congrats!

Still breaking it in. In Zuffenhausen Porsche recommended not going above 4,000rpm until I complete 1,000km.

For a microsecond I feared I was gonna be an obstacle on the Autobahn on the way home. Then I remembered the new 8th gear, which later worked out fine indeed: at 250km/h I was still several hundred rpm below 4,000rpm indecision.

Current odometer reading ~600km. I'll give a more detailed report once I cross that threshold.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

Thanks, and please note the blacked out calipers!

On the one hand I thought, what an absurd expense just to change the color of the calipers, but the standard yellow just doesn't go well with the gentian blue metallic exterior, the silver wheels and the light grey interior. In the end I'm happy I did it!

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

One curiosity: Porsche provided two photos taken during production on the assembly line and automatically uploaded them into my MyPorsche account.

Before "marriage" to the hotly coveted drivetrain:

    Looks ready to go:

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

As you asked mine arrived just before Lockdown 2. Prior to that I'd driven it at PEC Silverstone - really impressed by the feel/handling, and especially the brakes

I actually prefer the rear to my old 992S - maybe because the number plate is lower?

Also very happy with the investment in the black calipers.520422AF-7AF0-47EB-A29F-068BD84E5CFB.jpeg

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

    Wow, great styling!

And I agree: The yellow calipers would also look completely out of place in your combo Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

    Gnil:

I took this one this morning as I was thinking about the size evolution of the 911. The problem is not so much in length or with, it is more about the thickness and specially that bay engine bay that is getting way too high. The 992 has lost the typical 911 back drop completely. And no spoiler , wing, or whatever can make that look better.

    IMG_1070.jpg

It's not so much as to the maximum width of the car, it's more about the proportions.

Original 911s were narrow body, not much of fender flares on the front or the rear, it's like the supermodels of the 80s and 90s.

The 964 and 993 that comes after kept the narrow 'waist', i.e. the width between the doors, but gain a nice rounder 'butt' and have fuller 'boobs', aka front fender flares. Say pinup girls of the 40s and 50s. The waist have gain a little bit, but no one really complains about girls having 24" waist vs 22".

996 and 997 gain some more inches at the 'waist', but with even more pronounced 'boobs and butts', say Baywatch girls from the 90s. Now we are up to 26" waists.

991 got on the bigger bottom trend, the front fenders aren't that much wider but the waist have gain a bit, not as much as the rear though. I would put them as porn stars of the 2000s, 28" waist but with like 36Ds and a 40" butt.

992, oh boy, now we are going full bore Kim K. 36Ds with a 32"-34" waist and a 50" butt. Completely out of proportion.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

    Wonderbar:

I love the new wider  design. It reflects dynamic performance and race evolution.  To me, the older cars look just that—older.

And congratulations on your new beautiful car! A lot of money, but damn well worth it.

    +1

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

The 992 is not so much larger in terms of length (+3cm) and overall width (+5cm) than the 991, but it is wider at the waist and this might give the impression of a bloated car to some people who criticize the design. The front and rear fenders are wider to accommodate the wider front and rear axle tracks (for better turn-in and grip) and as a consequence the middle section has grown to give harmonious proportions. A typical application of "form follows function".

Having said that, IMO the 992 design looks very fresh and attractive and the increase in size is not extreme compared to other cars on the roads today. Even humans have grown taller and bigger in the years since the 60s when the first 911 came out.

The 992, with its new proportions is the most colour sensitive of all the 911 versions. I've seen yellow and it is a definite NO-NO. White is also not the best colour and SIlver is borderline acceptable. Agate grey suits the shape very much as does Aventurine Green.

The Turbo is more suited to the new design IMO and contrary to the Carreras, Silver looks very attractive on that model.

The Carrera models look better with the Sport Design Package that gives modified bumpers front and rear.

Congratualations. It is a stunning combo. We now have two beautiful Turbo S on the forum with blacked out calipers. I like those silver rims a lot.

I can just about bet anything if cyclists are registered and given plate numbers, the number of them breaking traffic laws will drop immediately down to almost zero.

It did not stop motorists breaking traffic laws, but in theory you are right Smiley

Yes, a lot of cyclists are very ignorant, but reckless riding a 15kg bicycle or reckless driving a 1500kg vehicle is a difference at impact for whoever is standing on the other side.

Anyway, I have zero tolerance for reckless driving.

Smiley Furthermore, if you hit a cyclist because you were "in your rights", you still have to deal with the (legal, whatever) aftermath. Not worth it.

I usually go by the rule "avoid a confrontation with the "weaker" cyclist because in the end, you can only lose" but I have to admit that I sometimes curse quite a bit when I have such an encounter. Smiley

Maybe we are going to join you guys with a 992 Turbo S Cab in later 2021. Smiley My wife still cannot decide between the Turbo S Cab or the GT3 Touring Cab. Smiley

it's interesting that she is doubting between the two, I would of thought she would prefer the Turbo instead of the GT3... AWD, more torque, rear seats, more comfortable and refined, etc?

To be honest: She started from a 992 Carrera GTS (upcoming model) to a Lamborghini Urus, then to a McLaren LT600 Spider and came back to a Porsche 992 Turbo S Cab Smiley. Then she remembered she wanted something with a wing, so she decided to go for the 992 GT3 but then again, she would miss a convertible, so the GT3 Touring Cab it is.  Smiley Fact is: We need to decide fast because of possible delivery times. I still believe she will stick to the 992 Turbo S Convertible but my wife has her own mind when it comes to cars, so I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up in a Ferrari. Smiley Smiley

3 very nice cars there.. congrats kiss

Liking the back calipers, too.  I guess Porsche invented contrasting calipers with the big reds on the 993, and it became a signature feature copied by lots of other manufacturers.  But that was a long time ago and I think it's had its day.  At least let people switch to black or silver for free to fit in better with their overall colour configuration.  I've put black calipers on most of my recent configurations as well.

The Speedster is the prototype with an extra large price tag Smiley Like the R and the subsequent Touring. Predictable  Porsche strategy to test the waters with a special edition and then mass produce like demand would never end.
