I think McLaren will put at least one AWD car on the market, they have to. It may be a SUV or a sports car but just imagine the 765LT with AWD and only a 50 kg weight increase. This car would "kill" any other sports car out there.
sports car and AWD do not match very well in the same sentence. let the 4WD for the SUV but there is enough on the market already
Why? There is a reason why AWD has been banned in many racing series.
Ask Walter Röhrl what he thinks about AWD, you may be surprised. His famous quote "everything but AWD is a compromise" is pretty famous but most "real men" in their "real 2WD" sports cars because they think "drifting or unstable rears are so cool and manly" have a different opinion.
To be clear I am not bashing AWD. However, there is no getting away from the steering feel in particular being less satisfying than 2WD. I guess its a case of what one is used to. Also performance on the limit (road and track) is always more predictable with 2WD in my experience - but that is probably because that is what I am used to.
No, don't worry. I understood you very well. 2WD is great for a fun driving feel, no doubt. I never said AWD is more fun, I just said it is faster (usually, unfortunately some AWD setups are crap).
I tried to bring back that 2WD fun feeling when I had my Shelby GT500 but at some point, it got annoying. I love it when the rear comes when I want it but it is annoying when it comes when I do not want it. There are also various advantages in bad weather (rain, snow) which may or may not be important to some here but overall, I am a sucker for AWD. Doesn't mean it is what people should want, I was only talking about me...and Walter Röhrl.
Btw: If people think that AWD cannot have the same steering feel many new fantastic RWD cars have, think again. Most of the steering systems are not (purely) mechanical anymore, you can basically program anything into modern steering systems.
Many of you are just too focused on certain models, I get it. I am not much different either.
