This is just nonsense in my view. The beige leather on a GT2 RS does not make sense. The dashboard is way too bright, there will be a lot of reflections in the windscreen. The owner must be someone who has his own money printing machine...

I agree. All. this leather is the complete antithesis of what the GT2RS is about. More money than sense as usual. Now a Manthey makeover that makes complete sense and fits with the purpose of the car. I have seen the car in person and SmileySmiley.

Can you elaborate what's wrong with the car when seen in person?

Agreed. Why bother to get a GT2 RS then? Smiley

I was actually thinking about ripping everything (dampening material, carpet, etc.) out of my Performante, just to make it lighter but in the end, this would save me only around 15 kg (talked to a specialist), not worth it. Car is already almost naked Smiley and I do not want to get rid of the entertainment system or the A/C (not even really possible).

Why would someone make the GT2 RS heavier and why would it look like a Bentley in the interior? Smiley Smiley

the AC system alone is about 15kg Smiley

removing all the carpet and insulation from the car would be an additional 15-20kg if not more.

Entertainment system is similar to Audi crap and about 10kg of rubbish.

removing all the goodies can save you about 70-80kg easily. look at the unsprung mass if you want to have some real fun, springs in titanium, roll bars in carbon fibers, wheels in magnesium and that bloody front wheel drive system Smiley

15 kg. Precisely. Talked to a specialist from the factory who did that before.

Entertainment system is similar to Audi crap and about 10kg of rubbish.

15 kg for the insulation/carpet. Everything else is not really removable or I don't want to.

Of course there are possibilities to switch the front hood for a carbon one, even lighter side windows are possible, carbon doors (without the protection from the current ones), probably saving another 25 kg for 20k EUR. Smiley Not worth it. For this kind of money, I can do a professional refresh driver's training, probably more productive than saving 25 kg. Smiley

For the same reason someone did this. If it's not going to be used on the track, what's wrong with not making it more luxurious? The vast majority of GT3RS, GT2RS, Performante, Pista, SV etc. etc. see next to no track time and a lot of the ones that do see track time I bet are never truly pushed.

Agreed on the track time point. However, as you know each car has a design/ purpose/ use synergy and leather violates that equilibrium in this instance. This is even more important with a top of the tree performance car like a GT2RS. Would you put leather in your 2.7RS (471) if you were fortunate enough to own one ? I wouldn't Smiley.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

Interesting conversation developing here ... puts a smile on my face ...

I can say that according to my trusted local dealer, with my Cayman GTS, I am one of max a handful of people driving the car in a "sporty manner", ie. also on a track ... In general, if one asks for a build slot for whatever new GT3 / RS / GT2 whatever, these will all be taken by the usual subjects at my local dealer, obviously these seem to be people who simply have their fun to drive an expensive road legal race car back and forth to work or for a bit of fun on a sunny sunday. Taken any race activities out of the discussion I think that the conversion looks absolutely stunning !! I guess if it had been possible the proud owner of the car would even have swapped the bucket seats with sport seats ...

No, I'd drive a Singer like you! Smiley

Quite honestly I"ve gone through the whole thing the other way around, making a car more and more track worthy until it was a racecar. It sucked, never as good as it could be on the track and increasingly bad on the street. Now if I want to track a car I"ll trailer it there and have a proper track car (which will be faster than the GT2RS anyways for less money) and if I want to be on the street I'd prefer to drive something that I don't fall out of, legs shaking, exhausted in a pool of sweat. If I want to "canyon carve" (not that there are any around me, but you get the drift) I"d rather do it in something more visceral and quite honestly slower as I don't enjoy fines or jails.

I can appreciate the beauty of the customization work but have to agree that it kind of goes against the core principle of the GT2RS. If something like this was done on a GT3 Touring then IMO would be a much better fit.

It;s a epic customization - I have to laugh reading about "lightweight comments" . None of us is making money by being the fastest or having the lightest - if tracking at all (not me) - hence its absolutely legit. to have a one-of-one for a bargain price compared to some paying "hypercar money" just to brag about what theoretically the car can do. Anybody having seen Lars Kern driving the Manthey should realize that 99% of all drivers will not be able to follow a professional with hundreds of kgs lighter nor more hp....

No I thought you were implying fit/finish would be bad...

I don't mind the approach to much on a GT2 RS, it's not a light car to begin with, and what does the leather treatment add, 30kg maybe? You'd need to be quite the pro to notice that. And where a GT2 does fall short at its price level is exactly where this one has been treated, its interior. It's a well appointed interior for a EUR150k max, it is bland and generic for a EUR300k car, that is just a fact.

It’s not the weight of the leather itself, it’s, how Cray so beautifully stated, against the car’s equilibrium. A car with a huge wing and Cup tires, with the according road manners, with a very plush interior... looks a bit odd to me.

I think you could turn a Bentley GT into a super-sportscar and still be acceptable but not a Porsche GT into a Bentley-style without being OTP.

BTW the best GT2 RS scheme was the introduction car i.e. GT SIlver with champagne coloured  wheels and Black/red interior.. Very Porsche.
