730hp...but sounds like a muted 4 cylinder Smiley

    I know... Smiley

I think I figured out why the flat crank but low revving engine concept.  AMG must be using the head architecture from its M139 four cylinder engine used in the new A45.  In top spec, it is rated at 420 bhp.  Accounting for parasitic loses that gets the engine down to 730 bhp in a conservative tune.

So, what is the upside of using that arrangement?  I still think it must be partially due to the different sound.  Couldn't they make 730hp with the previous arrangement and more boost?  Maybe throttle response is improved with FPC?

Speculative on one's part; however, looking at potential cost savings from sharing components for a limited edition model, it makes some sense to utilize those newly developed heads from the M139 engine.  The M139 is fully developed, meeting current emission and other regulations with the heads and ancillary components being costly.  Using the flat crank configuration is the equivalent of two four cylinder motors with a common crank, AMG meets its performance parameters comfortably with a large safety margin.

Makes sense.  And the large safety margin will certainly be exploited by Renntech and other tuners (maybe they'll even raise the redline which must have lots of margin if Ford can spin a much larger engine more than 1,000 rpm higher)...

However, if the valve train doesn’t have any more headroom for a higher RPM limit than that is a fixed variable.  The M139 has the same redline.

Yes, I noticed that the redline was the same as A45S.  I wonder if it's as simple as using better valve springs or some other bottleneck?

    Totally overpriced

Especially being a non-limited a non-numbered car: huge mistake for a Black Series model!

My Pista including options was at 333K EUR list price in Germany.

I am not in the Project One circle, but at the top end the buyer pool is quite small. I know of maybe 10 Project One buyers and 6 of those have indicated they didn't want the GT-R. One is a AMG snob so he buys anything AMG. Haven't heard either way with the others.

Guess that’s not very surprising. Still thanks for elaborating on it.

I know two guys personally, one through his son.

The Project One seems to be very very sought of here in Germany, kind of a iconic car for many who want or ordered it. I get it but I don't like how it looks. My son is crazy about this car, as soon as our "neighbor" gets his, he will be all over him. Smiley

My dealer just sold a used AMG GT R with 8000 km for...hold your breath...130k EUR.

Right now I am really wondering if I shouldn‘t replace my GLC63 S with one of these, for this kind of money.

I wonder how the BS will drop in value since it is not limited...

Oh, he also sold a used AMG GT C Roadster with 7xxx km for 122k EUR. Insane.

    Re: AMG GT R

Agreed. Also it isn't really as fast as the power may indicate. Gercollector took the 100 to 200 kph time with his Dragy and the time was 5.7x seconds as far as I remember. Pretty bad for a 730 hp car, this thing is way too heavy.

I think even Shmee mentioned that in the first year of ownership, this car will loose 100k. I'm not sure Mercedes will be pleased with this comment. Smiley He also mentioned that he wants to remove the sound generator, good luck with that.

The BS is not limited in production number, big mistake. Also way too heavy.

    Price is same as 765LT...dumb.

Performance will get even worse above 200kph - car is massive and has an even bigger rear wing, i.e. aerodynamics are very bad Smiley

I lost 80K€ in depreciation only on an AMG GTR (bought new) in 2 years and 15,000 km.
