    y0ukz:

As far as I know this car is gonna be Turbo Charged. I think is gonna just use a Carrera S engine with some tweaks. Might sound dissapointing but IMO makes sense to make a total different proposal than a GT3. Not NA and mid engine layout. PDK only too.

That's the info I have from some internal sources.... Let's see.

Well you are very very wrong in that regards I am sorry to say.

It totally didn't make sense to use the turbo engine and they have rejected that idea like 3 years ago, plumbing problem, packaging problem, etc. Perhaps check your sources?

I spent time up close and next to this car at Weissach. The only unknown right now is which 4.0L is in it.

Don't worry...n/a engine, no turbo. Sounds like crap too. Smiley Smiley

    Particular filter.

But at least there is slightly more room in the Cayman body than a 911 body for routing exhaust.

In exchange for depressed exhaust note, the driver will hear more of the intake roar however. The rear quarter window panels are replaced with air intakes for the engine.

To me it makes sense in order to make a total different proposal than a gt3. Mid engine and turbo. I still prefer a NA engine hopefully I am wrong, but that's my latest info.

I thought Preuninger said the 4.0NA would not fit the Carrera because it had to be rotated 180° and the cost to do this would make no sense? and would make even if its for the lower pricetag T version.

So your guy either works at Weissach or Manthey then Smiley

Then he would know the 3.0L turbo flat 6 doesn't fit with the extra plumbing.

Did you asked him why Porsche developed a new NA engine for the GT4 but doesn't tune that and put that in the GT4RS Smiley

Actually I think I do know better. Smiley

As I mentioned before, I was up close with the car at Weissach before. no one else had even a whiff of it coming back then. I was the one that mentioned it's existence first. Go search Rennlist's 718 GT4 thread if you want. And here also. must be like 2 years and a few months now. Afterwards press picked up the story and ran with it, until Porsche decided to show the prototype in public.

Way back then, that prototype had a GT3 tachometer installed in the car, and giant intake pipes from the rear side windows leading into a custom air box for the engine, pretty much taken up the whole trunk. At the time I thought they had installed the GT3 4.0L into it. I didn't know they had developed a brand new 4.0L for the GT4. A question was raised about the rotation direction of the GT3 engine for the gearbox. A wink was accompanying the reply that we are Porsche engineers, simple stuff.

Now that the 4.0L GT4 is out and making ~420hp from a restricted intake, safe to say the GT4RS with a much better intake track will make more comfortably.

The exhaust packaging and the particular filter gave it a different tone than what you thought of from a N/A car.

This car I told Walliser I wanted one on the spot at Weissch back then. Still waiting though Smiley

    Re: GT4RS

I'm glad this car is being built, but Porsche's commitment to the mid-engine platform is still inadequate. There are Porsche enthusiasts (like me) who simply have zero interest in the 911 and are tired of waiting for Porsche to build a legitimate upgrade path for the Boxster / Cayman products.

If you have zero interest in a 911, is it because of the extreme rear weight bias?  If so, keep in mind that the PDK gearbox (sure to be mandatory in the GT4RS) adds 68 pounds to the Cayman/Boxster platform, much of this weight behind the rear axle.

And unlike the 911 with its multi-link rear suspension, the Boxster/Cayman has to manage this extra rear weight with a very compromised strut suspension (up until now).  So, I'd be hoping the GT4 RS emulates the 911 a bit more (suspension-wise) Smiley

I want a 928 replacement built on the Panamera platform too but what are you going to do...Smiley

Look at the 944/968. There were 14 968 Turbo S made and even then they weren't as fast as the fastest 911 at the time. I"ve driven plenty of 500hp+ 944 Turbo racecars and they are a joy to drive, great potential and chassis that Porsche refused to take to it's limit. those 944 Turbos has what 250hp? A simple chip and exhaust and they were faster than a 911 but Porsche wouldn't do it.

    Re: GT4RS

Grant it’s more disappointment with Porsche’s culture than their engineering. My 987S was a great car, especially considering the price and the competitive landscape in 2005. But Porsche’s expectation was that I abandon the mid-engine dynamics I enjoy to move into the 911. They passed on the 960. Clearly they think the mid-engine concept has value (CGT, 918) but they chose to protect the 911 by not developing the mid-engine cars. For me, this speaks to culture, and engineering was not the focus here. Now if I wanted a medium or compact SUV, a heavy GT car or a 0db EV car, then Porsche is who I need to speak to. But mid-engine that would compete with a V8 Ferrari or V10 Lambo? That’s a car they have chosen not to build.

When I took my 981 GTS for service this week the advisor asked if I had seen the Taycan. I told him I wanted a RWD, mid-engine, naturally aspirated convertible without GPF, and did they have something like that? He just pointed at my car and kind of shrugged.
