    Now BMW is trying to differentiate from the stream and everyone is criticizing the trial. smiley

    I am sure in real life it looks better. Anyway the motorsport stickers and parts are for Fast and Furious guys but otherwise I am sure it will stay high in the food chain.

    The new 3 series looks like a Japanese car from behind, I always confuse it. Smiley

    The BMW 4 is very acceptable in terms of looks in real life. Maybe not everybody's favourite design (and which one is everybody's choice?) but OTOH far from unacceptable and ugly. Over the years BMW have tried all sorts of front grilles, so why not add this one to the big variety?

    The M3/M4 front looks even more attractive (judging from pictures) with the grille installed a bit deeper into the body without the pronounced surround.

    I think the 4 series will sell very well for BMW because it has a lot of presence, it is distanced further from the saloon/sedan 3 series model and it has a lot of affordable performance from the typically cultivated BMW drivetrains.

    These M performance accessories as in pictures above are in bad taste mostly but for BMW to offer there must a market for them. I've seen many of these type of "tuned" cars in Germany, so why shouldn't the manufacturer make some money from his own collection?

    "Hofmeister Kink or Knick"  is the name of that feature that started in 1961. It  was used on numerous models but it was diluted over the last decade.

    The C pillar on the 4 was made to resemble the 8. Overall it seems they want the 4 to look like a small 8. The 8 being an aspirational model for BMW customers..

    Yes, the RT-meisters are notoriously conservative re. styling.... more important to BMW will be how the YT-meisters view it...    YT influencers, influence away.... Smiley

    Agree i think they messed up the c-pillar. At least they finally put decent diameter exhaust pipes on it.....

    The local dealership received their first allotment of the new 4 series and the car in the metal isn’t anywhere as bad as the Internet leads one to believe. There’s a softness or anonymity about the rear 3/4 view caused by the lack of a strong character line but it fits in with the overall new design language.  Even the larger grille is well proportioned with respect to the other elements of the car’s front. It’s different but not offensive.  A new M4 would make a great addition to the garage.

    Have you seen the car in person?  If not, wait until you see it.  The new grille while larger than before sits low in relation to the previous variants.  That makes a big difference in appearance.

    I agree with you. I like the look of the new 4 very much after seeing it in reality. The new M3/M4 front looks even better with the recessed grille..

    A point of interest is that in the new M3/M4, BMW are using torque converter autos instead of the previous generation's DCT. I believe this is something that will be debated among enthusiasts.. TC autos are generally more expensive than DCTs so it was not a matter of economizing on behalf of BMW.

    M Division engineers state that their new auto gearboxes leave nothing to be desired compared to DCTs in terms of gearshift speed in both Auto and Manual modes and at the same time they have the known advantages in everyday driving.

    Definitely DCT are not as robust as TCs but they are generally lighter..
