First, I was never in intelligence (I may be somewhat intelligent though Smiley), where does this stupid assumption come from Smiley, I worked over seven years as a diplomat (which of course also involved some interactions with military attaches, intelligence reps and so on), nothing more and nothing less. I think I told this story over and over again. Smiley

Second, I know this from a certain person at Lambo. Again, nothing more and nothing less. Someone I met. Someone very important. Someone very very important. Smiley Also, heard the same from VW Group. From someone important, someone very important. Smiley

Guys, you really need a break from the internet or something. Smiley Smiley

With VW submerged with debt, it is not surprising that the jewels may be on sale...even someone important would not be involved in that type of discussion...More like loaner, Shareholders and CEO. The rest is not high enough to have that kind of discussion.

That Bugatti is for sale seems very realistic. It drains cash and intelllectual resources from VAG. Whether obtaining Bugatti would make sense for Rimac, that I cannot say.

Rimac is interested about Hypercar territory and Bugatti needs to look into the future. the W16 is not going to survive long and downsizing+electric power could bring interesting performance!

Porsche has a stake in RIMAC, so what is this "Bugatti will leave VAG" all about ? The consolidation / accounting process would be different, but this is still weird...

I see another possibility (if this rumor is true): 51% share increase for Porsche, Rimac buys Bugatti with the help from Porsche/VW Group and integrates Bugatti into their EV business, making the next gen Bugatti the fastest (EV) car in the world. How does this sound? Smiley Pure speculation though, I really don't understand how Rimac could buy Bugatti, a company with over 10x the revenue???

Selling Lamborghini would be pretty dumb since this company still produces serious money. Also, the hybridization and electrification of Lamborghini is already a done deal (in the near and far future), they need this.
Bentley and Porsche are a different story in my opinion, they fit each other better than Lamborghini, Bentley and Porsche (although I still do not understand why they have to separate everything after they actually "united" it before Smiley).

I doubt the VW group will be holding 51% of Rimac as that would force them to consolidate Rimac's financial results as part of the groups holdings.  More likely VWs stake will remain just below 50%.

Not even someone very very important? Smiley Smiley

I cannot say much about Rimac and Bugatti (it makes no sense under the current circumstances though) but Lamborghini, I know (pretty much) for sure. This has been discussed last autumn at many levels after the (Bloomberg?) report came out and this was before the Corona pandemic. Two very high levels included at the level you mentioned. I know how furious and offended these people were with that report, no basis whatsoever.

But: There will be (now even more, after the pandemic) a lot of restructuring going on (it already started) at VW Group, there will be new evaluations of projects and investments and many things more. So yes, a lot is going on but it mainly started during the pandemic because there is a serious crisis on the car market (even more than before), dealers are closing and the future doesn't look too bright either since nobody really knows in what direction the markets will go. The government wants EVs, people want something affordable but not exactly EVs, manufacturers are currently in some sorts of a limbo and the one really profiting from this is actually...Tesla. Smiley

I said it before and I said it again: I am so happy I'm not involved with the car industry, must be really difficult right now. It will get (much) better at some point but for this to happen, we need clear signs from politics and manufacturers need to come down from their huge gain margins expectations in the beginning if they want to successfully transfer/switch their productions/markets from gasoline engines to EVs or whatever.

I am pretty sure that around mid/end next year, we are going to see more from VW Group and know more about their plans.
