2021 Lucid Air Dream Edition Revealed: Range, Pricing, Specs, And More

In front of the driver sits a huge 34-inch, curved glass 5K display that appears to float above the dashboard.

Over time, the system will add even more features via over-the-air (OTA) updates.

26.1 cubic feet (739 liters) of luggage space. For comparison, a  Mercedes S-Class has 18.7 cubic feet of trunk space (529 liters)

the Lucid Air will be the most aero-efficient car available when it  launches next year, boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.21. The Tesla  Model S, for comparison's sake, achieves a drag coefficient of 0.24.

113 kWh battery pack, which is considerably larger than the 100 kWh pack used by Tesla in the Model S.

The battery system is a 924-volt system, which is the highest voltage for any production EV battery pack.

EPA range rating of 517 miles per charge.

Air can accept over 300 kW of power

The Electrify America network currently has about 350 stations in the US  that can deliver 300 kW, and the remaining approximately 1,800 stations  max out at 150 kW or even 50 kW. However, more ultra-high-speed DC fast  chargers are being deployed every month, and the infrastructure has  been maturing quite rapidly.

The Air will launch with Level 2 Autonomous driving ability, but  additional DreamDrive capabilities that will enable Level 3 driving  continue to be in development.

The key features delivered by DreamDrive:

     Safety:

    • Surround View Monitoring
    • Blind Spot Display
    • Cross Traffic Protection
    • Traffic Sign Recognition
    • Automatic Emergency Braking
    • Alerts for distracted or drowsy drivers

     Driving:

    • Full Speed Highway Assist (Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering)
    • Traffic Drive-Off Alert
    • Headlight Assist

     Parking:

    • Autonomous Parking Assist
    • Pullout Control
    • Maneuver Comfort Braking

"Our car uses 17% less energy to go a certain distance than our closest competitor" - Peter Rawlinson

The Model S, for instance, is EPA-rated at 402 miles and has a 100 kWh  battery. That's an efficiency rating of 4.02 mi/kWh (15.42 kWh/100km).  The Air Grand Touring can travel 517 miles with a 113 kWh pack, and that  translates to 4.58 mi/kWh (13.55 kWh/100 km).

Electric power is known and managed in the heavy and harsh industry since decades.
these EV cars will just show more power one after the other...kW is nothing in electric power...

Lucid Motors(Atieva) supplies battery packs to Formula E cars.

    Also:

Peter Rawlinson did stints as Principal Engineer at Jaguar and Chief Engineer of Advanced Engineering at Lotus, earning a reputation that led to a phone call from Elon Musk asking if Rawlinson would take over as chief engineer of Tesla's WhiteStar project. He agreed, and what began as the WhiteStar turned into the Model S, and we see how that's turned out. In 2013, he absconded to a small EV startup then called Atieva, very soon to become Lucid, to oversee the same task: Create a world-defining electric car.

Maybe he wasn't happy with Elon Musk plans Smiley

    Not possible. Vapor ware. Lol.
nice if they can build a car in time. It may be a bit late to the game. Btw Tesla’s model S specs were aimed at this car. Porsche was never a consideration.  That is not their competition.

    Not "Hot air" at all.

They are well financed, huge factory is already built and cars are to start coming in Winter/Spring 2021.

I'm taking the risk and committed to get the Dream Edition.

Expecting the delivery in early next year, twin motor with 1/4 mile already getting improved vs above numbers, 3-motor "Performance" version is coming next Fall, 1/4 mile now being talked at under 9 sec.

Risky move by me, no service infrastructure, no local dealer but will take it for the team and see what the whole thing is all about.

And with that, Tesla finally have a direct competitor.

    American too to boot.

    Re: [2021] Lucid Air (900v, 113 kWh, 1080HP, 517miles(832Km) range)

CEO Of Lucid Motors Explains Why Tesla Is Not Its Main Rival

‘ I would say our main competitor is a car company; I highlight  Mercedes Benz in terms of the attributes of Lucid Air. We're going after  S-class Mercedes, but it's a natural comparison, and I accept that  comparison with Tesla. I think it's really important that we start at a  high-end position as a true luxury brand. ‘

    Re: [2021] Lucid Air (900v, 113 kWh, 1080HP, 517miles(832Km) range)

I highly doubt S class customers are cross shopping Lucid or Tesla for that matter. Sounds like the CEO is trying to artificially position the brand upstream...

    Re: [2021] Lucid Air (900v, 113 kWh, 1080HP, 517miles(832Km) range)

I don’t think he is lying when saying that, if you look at the Lucid you can clearly see that they are aiming a totally different approach on the Interieur than Tesla. The car is much more on the luxurious side and also the two sweat option in the second row, also comes form the luxury segment. So I really thinks he mean it, tbh me as I had already several S-Classes I can tell you that I really like the Lucid as what it is and how it looks like, whereas I really dislike the Tesla for how it looks like also on the in Interieur and also on the exterior! Now your point is a good one S-Class drivers will always stick to Mercedes (like my father, impossible to convince otherwise but for a good reason).

    Re: [2021] Lucid Air (900v, 113 kWh, 1080HP, 517miles(832Km) range)

I appreciate your view. I am also happy to see a US car manufacturer with emphasis on interior details and material choices that can rival the germans. I see a lot of Taycan inspiration there. Where I believe it falls very short is in the exterior design. The outside design language speaks to me more like Korean than European.

One of my biggest hopes is that Lucid will force Tesla to improve their interiors.  Tesla uses carpets an econobox from the 80's wouldn't envy, a steering wheel better suited for a Saturn S series and a touch screen mounted on an Ipad universal mountangry

Don't forget the fake leather and lack of customer configuration options indecision... reminds me of what Henry Ford would say about the Model-T... “A customer can have a car painted any color he wants as long as it's black”...

I think Tesla needs to wake up now, as they have an advantage but this could melt very fast once all the big players will be fully in that market. There is a problem though, when you fill like a „king“ you are sure you are on, and so you are sure all you do is correct, I doubt that they will see the need to improve they did not all those years and will not do in near future. Same goes for the exterior design Smiley. The hype about 0-60 is over IMO sure its cool but does it really matter when your buy a sedan for 130k+ ??? Yes its cool but I think 2,1 or 2,9 wouldn’t bother me, I Willis rather have the better overall product for that price! Smiley

Have you heard the like from Gaggenau? “You can have it in any finish as long as it’s stainless steel” That’s changed now but still, very true for a long time.

They decided to not deliver 5000 cars in the first quarter. Now it’s 500 by the end of the year. Indications causing some to call this a giant fraud. Stay tuned.
