And dihedral doors too!  kiss  Very tidy, hard to tell what size this is... assuming 911-ish size, not Alfa 4C size that it was based on.

The rear looks great. I’m glad to see Maserati do something more agile than what they’ve been up to for the last decade.

    EnglishManInNY:

I don't know but I think Maserati is well advised to price this car way under the F8 Tributo (which has a 223k EUR base price, incl. 16% VAT, in Germany).

There is a rumor that US pricing starts at 160k USD...

If Maserati offers this car under 180k EUR in Germany, it could be an interesting cheaper alternative to Ferrari and even Lamborghini. I have no data about weight yet, let's just hope the car didn't get too heavy.

The design is quite elegant and exotic, it could be a winner.

The only problem I see is the...engine. V6 Biturbo. Not exactly a winner in my opinion. However, there were rumors that Maserati is using F1 tech (whatever this means) for this engine, so it remains to be seen.

The carbon monocoque has been derived from the Alfa Romeo 4C.

Pricing will be essential for this car, also weight and performance.

I may get the chance to drive it soon, not sure yet.

    Re: Maserati MC20

Will this Maserati be a series production car or limited?

    If in series production:

    • It will be lower than the Ferrari and therefore it will be frowned upon as a poor man's Ferrari in the case of  friends of Italian cars .
    • Lamborghini has the advantage of the VW Group's engineering integrity and reliability as a bonus. The other Maserati models are not exactly bulletproof in terms of problems.
    • McLaren is a very technology oriented brand and the pick of drivers as opposed to poseurs.
    • The Turbo S is in a class of its own because of the wide range of its abilities.

Consequently, I don't think there will be adequate room for this car given the market segment it will compete.

The design is OK but if you removed the Trident it could be anything.

    Re: Maserati MC20

Not a limited production as far as I know and like I said before, pricing will be essential. Of course also weight and performance. If this car weights under 1400 kg and really starts at 160k USD, it could be a huge success. Of course it has some tough competition but I think that if they hit the sweetpot between the supercars and cars like the C8 and the GT-R, it could be successful.

I agree with RC, price will be essential. Heard something about 210k in Germany.

    Re: Maserati MC20

Looks good on the outside but the interior ruins the whole high-end exotic sportscar impression, those seats, console and dash looks like a Fiat/Alfa/Toyota coupe with more leather, a very common mass production entry sportscar design. The outside however, looks very nice like I said and you can see the Maserati design cues.

    Re: Maserati MC20

I like the styling in general.  True, it is a bit reserved but this is how Maserati have fitted in vs the aero-driven styling Ferrari go with.  Only a couple of things that don't excite me:

    • The look-at-me doors.  I can do without these.  Do they ever actually perform any real function?
    • The dark lower doors / sills.  I don't like the way they squeeze the car vertically - but this seems to be a thing these days.  You see it on the Performante, Evora, others, too.

Sure the V6 isn't the most exciting choice but it is a reality we will see more of.  The McLaren 570 replacement will have a V6 as well.  But I don't see it as much as a negative as others.

I do think it could be very successful if the weight comes in low. Based on a 4C tub this could well be possible - the V6 and accompanying systems might only add <80kg.  Then a light, stylish, sporty car with a decent sounding engine and a carbon tub for 911 Turbo money looks very attractive to me.

Does it have hybrid tech?  I hope not.  That would ruin it for me.

    Re: Maserati MC20

MC20's only chance in the market  is to be priced at Audi R8 RWD level i.e. €140.000-150.000, which will also be the price of 992 GTS, I expect. Only then someone might take the risk of buying Maserati. Good horsepower and a name with heritage at an affordable price might capture some sales from the established brands. Things like  carbon tub and light weight  per se don't sell cars as we know. e.g. Alfa 4C vs Boxster/Cayman

At a basic price of  €210.000 and beyond  it will not find many buyers, except perhaps those who own many cars or like to experiment and buy anything new in the market.

Even Maserati's affordable models like the Ghibli and the Levante have flopped. As a technician told me recently "....they can break down even when they parked in your garage".

    Re: Maserati MC20

What’s the point?  Maserati under FCA guidance is an also run and while once set to target Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, it failed miserably.  FCA next tried to reposition Alfa-Romeo with moderate success too.  Sports car in any guise are no longer the halo product to bring consumers into the showroom.  This is just dumb and a waste of capital by Maserati and its overlords.

It was the first impression from the photos. It is the global proportions and lines.

These last photos are much better and make it looks more like a Maserati .

Generally, I don't see where that car fits in. Maybe only for the hard core Maserati fans.

The car looks, in my opinion, fantastic. I'm not a fan of the V6 Biturbo but I think we all know that this is the way almost all manufacturers are going to go for the next foreseeable future.

Where does it fit in? Depends on the pricing. If Maserati thinks they can sell this thing for over 200k, I think they are very wrong. The F8 Tributo is at least one performance category above the MC20 and the Huracan Evo may not be a bargain but at least it is, very likely, the last V10 and has a n/a engine.

This means that the only way Maserati can successfully sell this thing is for a base price starting at around 160-180k EUR (incl. VAT) in Europe. Also, I see huge(!) potential on the used car market, if the MC20 cannot hold it's value. A low mileage MC20 for under 150k could really be something worth looking for.

I think the doors were a mistake though, they add weight and cost.

The Alfa Romeo 4C failed because it wasn't neither fish nor meat as we say here. The price tag was OK but the car lacked refinement and power. The MC20 is a number bigger and definitely not underpowered (even though in the world of supercars, 630 hp is more on the lower end) and I even think that the refinement (chassis, engine, etc.) is there but the price tag cannot be too high and this is where Maserati will clearly fail. Instead of offering an alternative to the Grand Turismo, they seem to position the MC20 above the GT, which in my opinion is a mistake. Maserati is not Ferrari and if I had to choose between the MC20 and the F8 Tributo, I clearly know where my choice would be.

I am no marketing expert and I do not know how Maserati customers think and choose their cars, so maybe Maserati knows what they're doing but in my opinion, the MC20 is a product nobody asked for and this makes it difficult to sell. With over 700 hp and a weight below 1400 kg, this car would have been a no-brainer at slightly over 200k but like this? Nope. Never. Ever.
