    A BIG Improvement!

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

    The farmer:

Aldo, have you heard why the diesel Panamera will have "only" 750 Nm, when the old V8 in the Cayenne have 800 Nm? Why scale down?

Maybe not a big issue for most people, but I'm thinking about changing from my current TS (800 Nm)to the new diesel. The new TS will be yet another year and I think the diesel would work great as a winter car now when it is 4wd. But I'm not really a diesel guy and the biggest mitigating factor for choosing a diesel for me would be huge amount of torque compared to a petrol car so.....yescheeky

That is because there will be a Panamera GTS diesel with >440 hp. The diesel GTS is coming, why the diesel has less hp and torque then Audi Smiley

The gearbox can handle 1000 Nm, this is not the reason.

    RC:
I enjoyed that S8 Plus I testdrove more than the Panamera Turbo S I had and this should say a lot about the S8.

Really???? The setup/handling of these two cars cannot be compared at all, frankly. The Audi carries so much weight at the front, feels very heavy when turning in (front axle, understeer). The Panamera is by far the best handling car in this class... You might have enjoyed the sound but handling wise the Audi is just not comparable to the Panamera Smiley Same problem (a bit less strong maybe) with the RS6, BTW.

    noone1:

I think what I dislike most is the diameter of the round window area behind the rear passenger windows (whatever you call that piece of glass.)

The 911 is sharper and the Panamera was more square. This looks like a big cheap swoosh of the pen. Looks cheap.

    ajajaj.PNG

noone1, totally agree with you. while i do not find it a bad desig, its just generic and nothing special. i think typical german function over form design.

it is exactly that waistline and rear sideline that makes the aston rapide such a good looking 4 door with coupe like lines.

Looks promising, would be intersted in the overall dimensions of the car.

I am with about 12 918 owners here in London right now, everyone loved the new design, and quite a few has already placed an order for one. The Hunchback of Stuttgart is gone.

Nice review, thanks for posting.  Looking  forward to a complete set of pictures. Regarding other posts, I'm not concerned about low recent sales of the Panamera. Numbers always drop before a generation change.  I also agree that, while Audi S8 is certainly a fine car,  Panamera is in a different driving and handling class.  It should be, at the extra cost. Overall it seems like Porsche has made a massive improvement from what I can see and read so far.

Amazing looks now it's actually a nice car too look at! I love the touch screen for rear passengers, that's a world first no?

The design is IMO still a bit bland and too conservative, but proportions are so much better now.

I think the new design is a bit bland and conservative because they gave it such "normal" proportions. I still think the current (old) design has much more character.

I' ll wait to see it in the flesh for my final judgment, but for the moment it is way too main stream for my taste . looks like a better A7 .  I liked the hunchback better as it was special and different . Sometimes ' flaws'  are a + , and it was on the Panamera

Doesn't look like a Porsche anymore. Looks bland, as some have said. Could be anything...

Maybe that's a good thing though since, according to RT, Porsche buyers like to buy invisible $200K cars ;)

Thats the whole point, to be less in your face. There is a need for such cars.

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

I am not sure a Panamera is an invisible car; maybe this is more the case for an Audi A8 or a Bmw 7 series which often look fairly similar to their mid sized sedans. The current Panamera has quite some presence  and the new one will also be distinctive (imho) , despite it might look bland at first hand . It is a pity Porsche discontinued the naturally aspirated V8 GTS (in my opinion the most fun and enjoyable Panamera, not the fastest though).

Re: Panamera 2016 (Gen.2) Thread Closed

A lot of my friends who are not so much into cars know that Panamera is expensive, but when I told them there is version priced @ 250k Euros before options they were shocked. People have general opinion about Porsche, but a LOT of people are not aware how highly priced some Porsche models are.

So yeah, you are pretty much under the radar with 250k Euros Panamera Exclusive that is not that different from basic diesel version. Like RC said, there is serious need for that kind of cars.

When I drove my Panamera Turbo S, a 210k EUR car, most people I talked to believed it was somewhere around 100k EUR. angry This is already a lot of money for many here.
