With a very light car, it really doesn't need a lot of hp. The 240hp from the 4C feels plenty enough already.

You’re preaching to the choir.  That’s how much power my 911 has (finally had the drivetrain installed today).  Getting excited to drive this again.

    Re: Gordon Murray - T.50

Trump changed the Fed regs for low volume car makers so no problem to get this certified for US sales.

Murray is a brilliant guy, I'm sure the T50 will be terrific.

Buyers who want a fat suprcar with awd and pdk can still shop at the usual pork producing suspects.

OK, I hate to ask this but...is this thing street legal certified? angry I heard how many issues Mercedes had with the high revving engine and emissions certification, so... yes

An excellent question.  I expect it to be road legal in _at least_ all the places the McL F1 was legal, otherwise I doubt there would be 60-some depositors.

What I really wonder, will it be U.S.-road legal?  I mean legal-legal, not show-and-display legal.  I've not seen any information on that point.

Getting past U.S. DOT rules won't be easy, not to mention their stupid things like seatbelt chimes, door key buzzers, archaic lighting limits, bumper impacts, crash testing, et al.  I expect GM thinks in terms of EU rules, not U.S.  The McL F1 was not U.S. road legal.  I could see the DOT balking at no T.50 door mirrors, only cameras, for example.  The airbag rules are obviously intended for when you have a person right next to a door, not several feet away in a center seat.

The EU has provisions for low volume makers, and given there's 100 total likely spread over a few years, we could be talking 30 cars/year from GMA.  That would make for maximum loopholes available.  No GPFs, I hope.  The U.S. doesn't have volume-based rules, so far as I know.

He did mention the T.50 has to include ABS, by law, which he's okay with, and yaw control, which he made 100% switchable.

Because the F1 was a bear to park with manual steering, the T.50 has a clutched assist that comes in at parking speeds, then totally goes off once above parking.

zero chance it will be fully road legal in the US.  It will likely get show and display status but that's it.

Does that get 2,500 miles per year restriction?  If so, that's more than enough for most prospective owners...

Yes on the miles restriction.  For 99.9% of the owners this isn't an issue.  In terms of cost and complexity, show and display is by far the easiest option.  I can't imagine GMA shipping over a few cars for crash testing.......

if you interested in an example of brilliance in terms of working the US reg system:

    Cool indeed. Smiley

My kids love driving with me but I always have only one seat available. So they start fighting, especially on weekends. Smiley My wife usually drives her convertible by herself because she enjoys the open top experience, so we usually meet somewhere nice for lunch.

I just wish I had another seat in my Performante, I think that more cars should get the seat configuration of the F1/T.50/004S, it makes sense.

     From Autocar.co.uk:

The road-going T50 sold out within 48 hours of its official unveilling. Just 100 cars will be built, in the UK, throughout 2022. Production of the 25 racing T50s cars will then follow in early 2023.

It's such a shame to me that all that creative thinking,  knowledge and know-how to make the best driver's car is only for 100 cars,  and only a fraction of those are actually going to enjoyed,  most will be ornamental garage queens... if I had the money to buy such a car I would drive it like I stole it and enjoy everything about it,  if I had to keep it locked up so as not to have it depreciate it means that I could not really afford it in my view and should be buying something I could drive.

Gordon Murray unveils T50s racing version of supercar...  E0F26BDD-E91B-4EF4-964B-7C4204B9E420.gif

    A3B94834-BE08-4380-BCE1-2BF69B10736A.jpeg

A more powerful, lighter and quicker version of Gordon Murray's T.50 supercar is on the way

“With an unwavering focus on performance, and free from road-going legislation and maintenance considerations, the T50s will achieve astonishing performance on track, demonstrating the full extent of the car’s capabilities,” Murray says.

“We’ve thrown everything at pushing this car beyond the levels of anything that’s been done before – it’s a celebration of British engineering and our team’s extensive motorsport experience.”

It isn’t just the exterior that has received an overhaul either, as the interior has been redeveloped to give the driver as pure a racing experience as possible.

While similar in shape to a racing wheel found on a modern Formula 1 car, there is no overwhelming arrangement of buttons and switches on the wheel. Instead, the driver will find the basic controls needed to adjust the car from the driver’s seat, with traction and launch control functions present along with pit radio and neutral selection buttons.

Wheel-mounted gear-shift paddles will control the all-new six-speed Instantaneous Gearchange System (IGS) pre-selector system from Xtrac. The new bespoke transmission optimises ratios for speed in place of the road car’s manual set-up.

The central driving position remains though there is space for one very brave passenger to experience the speed and cornering capabilities of the T50s from within the cockpit.

Forged magnesium wheels reduce the car’s unsprung mass and an overhaul of the braking system has been implemented to control what will be a hardly insignificant stopping process.

Six and four-piston Brembo carbon ceramic brakes are at the front and rear respectively and are aided by a redesign of the brake ducts that will help the discs withstand up to 3G of braking force.

    Gordon Murray, T.50

Murray says customer satisfaction will be an integral part of the T50s experience...

At the forefront of the racing car though is the customer experience. Murray says that owners will have the opportunity to tailor their personal T50s to cater to individual preference, whether it be aesthetically or mechanically.

“I’d like each of the 25 cars to be completely unique from set-up to paint finish. There will be nothing like the experience of driving this car,” Murray stated.

“Hearing it… well, that will be something else.”

Seat set-up, pedal arrangements, car set-up and paintwork can all be adapted to each driver’s liking to meet both style and driving requirements.

As well as developing the road and racing cars, Murray and his team have been in contact with Stéphane Ratel of SRO with the aims of creating a GT1 sports club for the owners of the T50s and run as a private racing series. A full offering of pit, garage and supporting equipment will be included as part of the sale for each car.

With the T50 road car selling over two-thirds of its 100-unit production run ahead of the reveal, the £3.1m T50s is expected to go just as quickly, with over half of the 25-car run already claimed by customers.

The global unveiling of the T50s will take place near the end of 2020 with more details expected at a later date. Production of the racing car will begin in the first quarter of 2023.

easy answer. it is not a car it is an investment/take on GM's work and automotive/racing experience. there are hundreds of other cars produced by a committee you can buy and drive around.
