    There must be two versions of the CarWow video then as the one I saw the McLaren walked away from the Turbo S once it got into its stride on the rolling races and even on the quartermile it was catching it fast towards the end - which is consistent with the 10mph higher trap speed you would expect from the McLaren. Matt even commented how the rolling race was a foregone conclusion based on the material power advantage of the McLaren.

    Mat can't even pronounce the brand name Porsche correctly, I do not expect him to be a car expert. Smiley CarWow's drag races have always been a little bit weird and often contrary to our own results in our driving circle but I guess if it is on the internet, it must be true. Smiley

    The 720S drove away very slowly at a certain speed, at that time, both cars were probably already traveling in excess of 150 mph. I know the 720S well, we have two versions in our driving group, one older car and a new one. Performance is unbelievable over 200 kph, I would love to take an emissions test at those speeds above 200 kph. Smiley

    The traction control of the 720S also works amazingly well, it is pretty difficult to outrun it that "obvious" in the lower speed ranges, usually everything happens in the 0-100 mph (160 kph) speed range, above that, the 720S always pulls away, not even the Pista can keep up.

    Unless perfect conditions for the 720S I do believe the 992 TurboS will just about beat the 720S in a drag to a quarter-mile. And the conditions were far from perfect in the video. For a half mile drag the 720S would be gone. Also as soon as the 720S is in third gear with the additional boost versus first and second the TurboS will be left behind easily. The 720S is just bounded by traction. Can only imagine how brutal the 765LT will be.

    All rear wheel driven cars are traction limited, even the McLaren's with their excellent traction control.

    You can only put down so much power until the tire's traction is broken. 

    On a drag strip with glue sprayed on, like those videos done by that bald Florida guy, 720S will do amazing 1/4 mile time simply because of the better traction offered. But that's the best case scenario and pretty much cannot be repeated.

    It's just a math/physics problem. The initial traction, 'bite', of a car launch is limited by how much grip the tire can give on the road surface, once that's broken the tire will be spinning and the acceleration rate will be next to zero.

    The bite can easily be calculated too, it's simply the product of the car's weight over the driven wheels times the friction coefficient between the tire and the surface. The Youtube Channel Engineering Explained has a few videos explaining that. The friction coefficient can also easily be obtained by measuring the peak braking g-force. 

    Even with the same tires, a 720S weighting less and only has 2 wheel driven will always be at a disadvantage comparing to a turbo S weighting more and with all 4 wheels driven. 100% of the weight of the turbo S are used to press down on the driven wheels while maybe 80% of the weight of the 720S is used, if even that much. 

    Once the car gets going, as long as the wheel torque doesn't exceed the available traction, the car will accelerate at it's maximum speed. The wheel torque is also easily calculated, it's just a product of the engine output times the gear ratio, times the final drive ratio. For the 720S, 2nd gear still isn't tall enough for putting down full power without breaking traction. You may call for full power with the pedal pressed all the way down, but the ECU will adjust the power output to maintain traction.

    Whether it's a 10.1 or a 10.4, the car is blisteringly quick and seems to be a really enjoyable package overall if reviews are anything to go by. (@RC, no I haven't driven one, nor do I intend to test something if I'm not interested to buy)

    To me it feels a bit like the coming of age of the 992 platform, fingers crossed it's a success for the brand, especially in these times.kiss

    10.1 is impossible. The best a friend could do (measured with Dragy) was 10.4 seconds with an almost empty tank and alone in the car. The car launches fast but not that fast, the tested car in the video is a press car from Porsche UK, something CarWow forgot to mention. Smiley

    Porsche press cars have been always comparable to customer cars. It is safe to assume that customer cars deliver the tested performance as well. One of the big advantages of Porsche. No significant volatility in power output.

    But RC says they're not... Smiley

    The best his friend could get was 10.4 so that's what the car's official best number will be.

    He said many times that he did not have the full capacity to develop the car as per his philosophy because he arrived late in the game i.e. car was almost ready but he did put small touches here and there. GTS should be Smiley

    When did you do your last quarter mile measurement, Markus? 30 years ago? With a stop watch? Smiley

    We use Dragy almost every weekend for some comparisons, the results are amazingly accurate, this is why (almost) nobody uses a Performance Box anymore, too inconvenient. If the Dragy has free line of sight (directly under the windshield in the middle), the precision is astonishing.

    Between the fastest and the slowest cars in a super sports car group, the time difference over the 1/4 mile is around 0.7 seconds.  Trust me, 0.3 seconds are a very big difference. My GLC 63S AMG did 12.1 seconds last time, tank was almost empty though but my son was with me in the car.

    You want to hear some Brits trying to pronounce Hermes or even Givenchy , doesn't make any difference whether it is a brand name, a city or food, most Brits just say it as they see it phonetically in English.

    I enjoy no accent in German or English.  Want to trip up a German have him say squirrel.  Same with an American trying to say it in German. 
    Hope to get a test drive in the new Turbo soon.
