Whoopsy:hunterone:yes for a flat plane the redline is very low -- dunno why
Turbo size perhaps. Smaller turbos run out of breath quickly. But great for low end punch which AMG is known for.
This is and the need to optimize flow better with a flat plane crankshaft than a cross plane crankshaft.

For a car that makes nearly 200 hp per liter on pump gas, the turbochargers have to be fairly large...
With tuners like Renntech certain to boost power far higher, I would guess that AMG left some additional headroom in the fueling capacity (two fuel pumps, AFAIK) and turbochargers as well...
This car seems to have a clear mission, beat the GT2 RS on the Ring. For that, I could see AMG forfeiting their classic low-end grunt for track performance...

RC:Special edition version for Project One buyers...
Sort of down the path of the 997 turbo S 918 Spyder Edition.
The one you want isn't ready yet, how about you buy this 'special edition' while you wait for your proper car?
Wonder what the take rate is. I know of at lest 6 Project One buyers that have already turn down this car.

the Turbo S 918 Spyder edition was at least not a 50K extra to swallow for questionable paint scheme as PAG got it right at that time...

Latest rumour I heard is that for Project One customers this car with the questionable paint scheme will only cost 50k in total and not price of the regular BS plus 50k. It remains to be seen if this is true.

Yeah well even that, Porsche only managed to sell slightly more than 100 of those. 44 in North America. 40+4 for USA and Canada.

Porker:Is that project One still coming? The world looks ever more inhospitable around its birth.
It seems to be coming but I'm not so sure customers will love it... There are so many (negative) rumours regarding a muted exhaust sound and lower rev figures than advertised, it will be interesting to see how this pans out. Mercedes seemed to have a hard time to meet emissions and sound emissions certification requirements.

The truth is: I like this car. It looks mean, it seems to be fast (verdict still open) but it kind of lacks the design refinement of the GT3 RS and GT2 RS models. I can't help it.
For 335k EUR, this is not a bargain.
Lamborghini is planning something similar with the Huracan STO (300k EUR base price) but since I doubt they are going to squeeze more than 640 hp out of this engine, I am very curious how they are going to justify the price.
At least the AMG GT Black Series has 730 hp, a substantial power gain and a lot of racing tech but like I said before, it remains to be seen how effective this will be on the track.
Sorry to say this but I kind of like the GT3 RS and GT2 RS better and they are/were cheaper too.

GT2RS was in the same price range as this car, with options. it is possible that is going to be a more exclusive product but just came too late. the look is a matter or preference. the orange color looks more interesting than boring silver. the fancy Petronas blue color with the stars paint job is just a joke.

GT2 RS base price was 285k in Germany, basically 50(!)k EUR less than the AMG GT Black Series.
I am pretty sure that you can still add some options to the AMG GT Black Series...
The GT2 RS I put together when I wanted to order one was around 310k EUR, so still 25k from the base price of the new AMG GT Black Series.

I will be very surprised if this car sells well at this price. I think a reasonable price would be around EUR 225k. I guess this is one way to ensure exclusivity without a numbered plaque...

RC:Topspeed:730hp...but sounds like a muted 4 cylinder
I know...
I think I figured out why the flat crank but low revving engine concept. AMG must be using the head architecture from its M139 four cylinder engine used in the new A45. In top spec, it is rated at 420 bhp. Accounting for parasitic loses that gets the engine down to 730 bhp in a conservative tune.

So, what is the upside of using that arrangement? I still think it must be partially due to the different sound. Couldn't they make 730hp with the previous arrangement and more boost? Maybe throttle response is improved with FPC?
