    Porsche 991.2 Turbo S (P Zero Corsa): 1.50,0 min
    Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Türer: 1.52,8 min

Excellent result, the turbo s was tested on standard tires... Nearly all cars on the above list were tested on sports tires kiss

lap time is not about what can be achieved in 1 lap, the good part of all other cars listed there as you can repeat this over and over again; Senna, GT2RS, GT3RS, (maybe Pista) & 600LT are for laptime. the rest is 1 lap show off.

This is nonsense - cannot speak of the AMG GT S 4 door and the Aventador, but the rest is certainly suitable for dozens of laps (at same lap times).

In the end however, it is the driver who is fast, not the car. Smiley Smiley

NordSchleife is indeed a better indicator when you don't do it like Lambo by cutting and editing the lap here and there Smiley (was an easy one, I couldn't resist)

Smiley Yeah...conspiracy theories are booming. Smiley

the driver is surely putting the car to its ultimate potential but still the car plays an important role.

I don't know, I noticed lately that drivers in very (new) powerful cars, like the 720S or even the Aventador SVJ have a tendency to...how to put it...put the car close to the limit without the skills. The results are sometimes tragic (I've seen a 720S play off-roader, thank god no tree around but it definitely can't drive off-road Smiley) or less tragic (hitting a curb or something else with a rim) but in the end, the drivers seem to rely too much on the car's capabilities and often forget their own.

This is why the automakers introduced the electronic nannies which only exacerbated the problem as the driver continues to overcompensate for a lack of skill because there's a safety net.  This is formalized in a concept on risk compensation called the Peltzman Effect.

Most of the posters here have, as a general rule, above average driving skills. However, the vast majority of motorists, especially in countries like the United States, are poorly trained and inattentive when driving.  This is why there is a proliferation of large trucks, crossovers, and SUVs in the States.  It is a form of risk compensation.  A larger vehicle makes them feel safer regardless of their skillsets.  The same effects are exhibited in those that purchase vehicles with enhanced or advanced driving aids.

At €180.000 this is not a bad offering. The Turbo S is €32.000 more expensive but in practical terms is it worth that extra?

We decided no; it was not, last year when buying our Turbo.  Just can't see many drivers in the standard Turbo concluding it lacked power, it is still relentless enough for great fun and long drives.  One consequence of the S model savings, is that at least at our dealer, there were at least 5 Carreras that were specced out to higher prices than our 2019 Turbo, even with a PTS charge.

    Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Türer (Cup 2): 1.52,8 min

All (!) other cars on the list were tested with sports tres. The turbo s is the only one on the list with regular street tires Smiley

No exact numbers, unfortunately. But 1-2s per lap should be a realistic estimate.

The AMG Pro I believe was done on Cup2.  The Cup 2 R was never available for the Pro.

Porsche press cars have been always comparable to customer cars. It is safe to assume that customer cars deliver the tested performance as well. One of the big advantages of Porsche. No significant volatility in power output.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

I don’t think 10.1 is impossible. If you consider the times frequently ran by previous versions of the Turbo S and the big step up made with this one. The 997.2 ran 10.7, the 991.1 ran 10.6 and the 991.2 ran 10.5. Consider the biggest jump in power yet, the benefit of the 8 speed PDK and the larger contact patches of the 21inch tyres - it seems plausible. Also, if you consider that the McLaren which has a similar drag as the Turbo S, was catching it quite fast and as such you cannot only put it down to less weight - the McLaren clearly has a lot more bhp which would not have been the case if this was a special press car with 700bhp. The rolling races also underlined this. This car just seems to be putting its power down better than anything else when launching which makes sense given the weight at the back and the 4wd.

It is possible of course, if the car has substantially more power. You should also look at how the 720S advanced towards the 992 Turbo S in the "comparison" on CarWow. He barely got closer. The 720S is a monster over 200 kph (125 mph), even tuned 991 Turbo S had no chance.

In the end, we need and have to wait but like I said before, my buddy got 10.4 out of it (car had barely 3000 km) with an almost empty tank and alone in the car.

I posted this list but I guess, as usual, some of you ignored it. Smiley The car on this list even did it in 10.34 sec but I have no information if the tank was full and how many people were in the car.

A lot of factors to consider in that comparison between your friend and Carwow - wind, elevation, tarmac, etc. In that video the 992 did 10.1.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

There must be two versions of the CarWow video then as the one I saw the McLaren walked away from the Turbo S once it got into its stride on the rolling races and even on the quartermile it was catching it fast towards the end - which is consistent with the 10mph higher trap speed you would expect from the McLaren. Matt even commented how the rolling race was a foregone conclusion based on the material power advantage of the McLaren.
