The Cavalcade is like the Gumball 3000, only with millionaires that Ferrari picked. This year, a hundred supercars and hypercars were gathered from all over the world with the clear goal to show off and burn fuel.

However, it didn't end well for a couple of people. The event that started yesterday appears to have claimed one brand new F12tdf. The yellow super-version of the F12berlinetta looks like it's taken part in the color run or snorted too much blue cocaine. However, as some of you may be able to tell just by looking at the photo, fire... sort of happened.

Reports are vague, but it appears the F12tdf suddenly caught flame while at the gas station in the city of Longarone.

Firefighters were called to the scene, but they arrived too late to save the day. A fire extinguisher had already been used to put out the flames.

This could have been a lot worse. Every Ferrari fan remembers the fires that plagued the last generation of supercars, which eventually led to a few major recalls. Hot exhaust, high-pressure fuel systems and road rockets like this make for a flammable combination.

Which is not to say that there's anything wrong with the F12tdf. Considering the fire happened at a gas station, we could be looking at a flame caused by static or gasoline dripping onto some sort of hot component. Many recall-related fires originated at the exhaust or under the hood, which is clearly not the case here.

But wait, there's more. A red LaFerrari from Hong Kong lost control and went off the road in the locality of Cademai in Cortina. We don't need to remind you that there are only 499 of these in the world or that it costs about €3 million if you can find somebody to sell one.

In any case, the red supercar manged to hit a Lancia Ypsilon and take down an "El Zoco" restaurant sign. Somehow, we wouldn't be too upset if any of those two things belonged to us. Having a LaFerrari crash into your crappy little car is a great honor.

You think this would be idiotic? Just yesterday, I saw that happening when I fueled up my GTS Cab. I asked the guy to turn off his cigarette immediately (how the heck is someone that crazy to smoke at a fuel station???) but he refused. I went inside and told the woman at the counter what happened and she (and two other guys inside) rushed outside to talk to that guy. She had to threaten him with the police and the other two guys wanted to grab his cigarette but at least he didn't throw it on the ground but extinguished it in the water for cleaning the windshields. Unbelievable. enlightened

I think he applied too much throttle in that curve before the crash...

I've seen such accidents various times, people don't seem to have a "feel" for the power, especially at lower speeds where traction could be a serious issue. Maybe he even had ESP turned off, don't have a clue but this is a typical driving error.

Half or full throttle can work wonderfully when you are already doing 80 or 100 kph but at 20-30 or even 50 kph, this can end up pretty badly if the car has traction issues, especially when ESP is turned off.

Did I tell you the story where I switched ESP off on my 997 Turbo, forgot about that and then exited from a smaller road into a major road with almost full throttle and ended up doing a spin in the middle of that major road? I learned my lesson. Smiley

RC I know exactly what are you talking about, especially since I am pretty often on R motorcycles where throttle is even more responsive and very tricky if you are not aware what kind of monster you have under your balls.

Problem with LaF crash is, there is not a single mark of tyre wear on road. If driver pushed car too hard I assume he would brake even for a second. Here it seems he just directed the car straight forward. I know my assumption is too hard, but I really believe guy was under some kind of supstance.

It gave my parents a serious headache because I needed a new car within 48 hours... (I was supposed to leave for outside Germany and the car couldn't be fixed in that time). Managed to get the same car, brand-new but in a different color (red instead of silver). Loved my father for that. Smiley

A while ago, a 599 GTO owner came to my Porsche dealer and wanted to exchange his car for the new 991 Turbo S (it just came out at that time). When asked why, the owner said this "crap is undrivable" I thought the owner is just not a good driver but when I read this... Smiley

The GTO is very unforgiving. Not as fun to drive as the Speciale or even the Scuderia.

A while ago, a 599 GTO owner came to my Porsche dealer and wanted to exchange his car for the new 991 Turbo S (it just came out at that time). When asked why, the owner said this "crap is undrivable" I thought the owner is just not a good driver but when I read this...

Even with AWD, it still won't help if you can't respect the cars power output + impatience with cold tires Smiley

7/10 for the TdF is like 9/10 of the F12.

Which means the TdF is pointless and too powerful for a RWD street car as the F12 is already borderline.

well, clearly front engined rear wheel drive cars are traction limited. it was already pretty bad in my M5. but the TdF at least makes you feel good when you get into it:::)))
