Re: Dave and Gnil @ Nürburgring Nordschleife

Awesome pics and looks you guys had boat loads of fun. I only arrived Friday afternoon, massive traffic from Stuttgart on paired with a lot of road construction made it a cumbersome drive. Just saw a couple of Porsche with the Manthey track days sticker upon arriving.
I did not do any driving on the Ring but proceeded the next day to Spa which was booked by KR-Motorsports allowing not only road cars but track only cars too. Weather was perfect with around 20 degrees, around 35 cars in total, track was in great condition next to being one of the best tracks ever in my book. It combines technical as well as very fast corners, loads of elevation changes and some of the most iconic corners you can find on any racetrack, namely Eau Rouge, Pouhon and Blanchimont which all take big balls. For me Blanchimont is the biggest challenge as you also approach it very fast and you have to use every inch on the right to through it. Eau Rouge is great once you got the hang of it, especially you need to turn the car in the compression offering huge grip and Pouhon is great as it is downhill and you don't see the exit. In terms of fun I very much the whole section from Les Combes, Malmedy and Bruxelles, very technical and if you get it right you feel the car drifting in the sweepers at the edge of the grip, very satisfying.
We drove the AMG GT4 in 520hp configuration, the car is very forgiving, has adjustable traction control as well as ABS which you want to have at very low intervention level. The cockpit is well thought through, you have a fixed seat shell and you don't adjust the seat but the whole pedal set. The car has enough grunt too, especially compared to the Cayman GT 4 CS. We drove on Pirelli slicks which dont have the outright peak performance of the Michelins but are very constant so if you don't go for outright lap times they are a good choice. Although I haven't driven Spa since September 2016 it took me only a handful of laps to get into the groove. At the end I managed a 2.355 with a 110kg passenger in early afternoon. My mate managed in better conditions, alone and going for everything 2.325. With Michelin a 2.30 should be possible. Mind, during the Porsche Carrera Cup test session a couple of days before the quickest driver managed a 2.221min, incredible lap, going into Eau Rouge on the limiter in 5. gear, very slight lift, breathtaking.
As highlight a team mate who is a Pro took me out in the AMG GT3 and we did a 2.24min, taking Blanchimont almost fully flat at 234km/h, the downforce really making a big difference.
Next day we drove to Boxberg for some drifting fun, my mate took his BMW M3 CRT out, very rare car with its 4.4litre V8. We had a blast on the German highway and motivated by Porker's recent 331km/h I managed to get my bog standard Touring to 330km/h, no picture as I drove alone and believe me, you wan't to keep both hands at the wheel, especially considering no wing!
All in all, a great weekend
    Below some picture

Fantastic tool you were driving at Spa Smiley I must not forget to take some masks when I'll go there next month.

You had a proper petrolhead time between the track driving, the high speed autobahn cruising and the fun drifting !

Maybe next time we manage a meet .

there is normally Porsche lettering on the calipers but it is not there. So I assume this is done aftermarket. the lack of NACA ducts is indeed a mystery.

if you look at the roof, it is carbon so assumed it is a WP so the wing should be carbon as well but it is painted...

another mystery is side scoop are either painted or carbon and the front fender as well...

    I have no idea then.

Is the licence plate from Denmark?

Color could indicate a Porsche family member but no, it isn't .

    Number plate is from Denmark.

Would he be staying at the hotel Tiergarten, a pretty simple place ?

The amount of work and money spent to change this Turbo into a kind of Gt3 RS is unbelievable .  The only reason I can see is to absolutely want to have the AWD setting .

I agree, this must be RC Smiley

Joking aside, I do not see Frederik as a guy who would spend this kind of money on turning a turbo into a track car. I have never seen him participate in any track events. His brother is racing a historic Lotus Cortina, but I cannot imagine this being him either.

I have talked to some "friends" back in DK and they know the car, but not who owns it. I am sure that if it belonged to a royal, they would know.

I am sure Frederik would not mind to stay in a simple place. He seems to be a guy who is more concerned about being in good company, than being seen in the "right" places.

That is a good guess. The family is having a decent car collection and is involved in some automobile businesses. The "old man" is racing classic Porsches and money would not be an issue, that is for sure.
