    Took Delivery

My wife and I just took delivery this past Friday on our first Porsche - a 997s! We ordered back in August and waited anxiously for delivery. Needless to say, we aren't disappointed! We ordered midnight metallic blue with full black leather. We also got the tiptronic transmission, sports chrono package, adaptive sport seats, PCM with navigation, multi-function steering wheel, 6 disk cd changer and a few other things I can't recall at this moment.

We weren't sure what to expect from the color since all we'd seen was the 1 inch swatch, but let me tell you, it's gorgeous, especially in the sun. The interior is really nice, too. No complaints.

Lastly, the car performs as well as expected, if not better. Still only have about 300 miles on it, but so far so fun!

Just wanted to say hello since I happened upon this board. I'll be lurking now and then, and hopefully I'll be able to provide some input as well.

    Re: Took Delivery

Congratulations and pictures please, if you can.

    Re: Took Delivery

Would you be able to post some nice big pictures of your new car? Because I'm really curious to see a midnight blue 911.

    Thanks.

    Re: Took Delivery

Congratulations Mike, ditto with the guys on the pictures

    Re: Took Delivery

I'll be taking pictures as soon as the weather clears up. Right now it's raining hard and the wind is blowing like crazy. Should clear up in a few days, I'll give it a good wash, and then take those pictures!

    Re: Took Delivery

Congrats...sounds like a great car. Just keep that sport button on for the real fun. Pics would be good. Happy driving!

    Re: Took Delivery

    Enjoy your new car!

    Ditto

    Re: Took Delivery

Congratulations! I vividly recall my taking delivery of my new 2001 Midnight Blue/graphite TT, which I still admire and enjoy every day.

I had posted some pictures a few years back, and will take some more and post when the sun shines this week again in DC. Midnight is still my favorite color, although sometimes in the heat of a dusty summer, I wish for a lighter color. It has less red (if any) than Lapis, and therefore doesn't take on a purple cast.

    Re: Took Delivery

I remember waking up in the middle of the night and next thing I knew I was sitting in my new Porsche in my pajamas. That was years ago and I remember it like yesterday!

    congrats!

    Re: Took Delivery

Took a while, but I finally made it out to take some pictures. The car needs a bath, and the glare wasn't helping, but this is what I got so far:

    Enjoy!

    Re: Took Delivery

    Mike,
    Car looks amazing! Congratulations!
Tell me, the mesh bit under the central hole in the front bumper, is it always light grey looking? Or is it something you added. Provides a nice contrast.
Also something that looks nice and I never quite noticed, the red caliper that matches the red bit of the rear lights, nice!
Is the multi function steering wheel bigger than the standard sport wheel? I'm sure it's been discussed before but I can't remember.

    Re: Took Delivery

I'm loving that midnight blue! Very nice indeed! Nice change from Black

    Re: Took Delivery

I believe its a third radiator instead of the black plastic cover, I think Tips get a third radiator installed.

Oh, very nice pics and the Grinch seems to like the car too

Thanks! We're very happy with the color. Even better than we had expected.

Tha part you asked about is standard. As for the steering wheel, I don't know if it's the same size or not. The dealer didn't have a model on the lot to compare it with when we took delivery. It's also the first one they delivered with the multi-function wheel.

Take the weather! You can always BUY the car.

OH BTW thanks for the pictures. really great color

    Re: Took Delivery

Car looks stunning. Great pics - thanks for posting.

    Re: Took Delivery

    Wow, congrats.

    Re: Took Delivery

Now i'm feeling very sick with envy!!!

I had my car ordered in midnight blue but was pursuaded by numerous people that the 997 looks better in lighter colours so switched it on the last possible date to silver and that looks stunning!

My only consolation is that living in the UK you probably need sunshine to show it off properly so it would never look as good as it does in your pics.

Also is that black interior? I had ordered the blue, which I have kept on the Artic silver I'm collecting from the factory in January.

PLEASE PLEASE tell me what you think about the tip on the S - I've not read any reports on a tiptronic equipped "S" model. Performance? Some people have questioned the logic of having tiptronic on the S as its torque curve is more peaky and therefore needs to be revved harded to gain any advantage over the standard car.

The silver looks nice, too! I just prefer a darker color and we already have a black car, so midnight blue was a natural choice for us. I don't know if you could tell in the pictures, but we also had all the windows tinted. I do have to admit, though, that in the sun this car gets some serious attention.

We did get the full black interior. It has some nice aluminum trim that compliments the black very well.

We ordered the tiptronic so my wife would drive the car. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I do have to say that I'm happily surprised. I keep it in sport mode, which helps. I also keep in it manual mode for the most part. Shifting is smooth and quick going both up and down in gears. I don't take this car out onto the track so I can't compare, but driving hard around town now and then doesn't seem to be any less fun. We still only have about 600 miles on it so we've kept the RPMs down below 5k, but the car really likes to move once you get around 4k and higher. 3rd gear is a lot of fun on the highway.

Good luck with your order! It's well worth the wait!

Grew impatient waiting for my 996TTS to arrive and bought a new blk/blk 997S w/Tip and sport chrono 3 wks ago. Have had numerous SL/CL55s and 360s in recent past, but never a P. After about 1200 aggressively driven (and trouble-free)miles, must say that 997S is a unique combo of F-like driving precision and Merc-like safety systems and anonymity...and in my car's case Lexus-like quality/reliability to-date. Though an admitted torque addict, I've found 997S (always in Sport mode) to be quite proficient for those 50-100MPH bursts in freeway traffic...it's no SL55 for these bursts, but certainly matches deminimus-torque 360s. Biggest complaint w/Tip is, after growing accustomed to the ergonomic logic of paddle shifters, I find buttons on steering wheel fairly useless, given the inconvenience of the placement. But, importantly, I find Tip seems to almost always find right gears in mountain twisties driving. Can't wait for DSG to make P even more compelling....but in interim I find 997S Tip to be world's most balanced fun, yet utilitarian $100K car.....only major performance gripe I have is 997S' non-linear, counterintuitive variable-ratio steering....why did P screw up the fabulous steering feel of 996? Hope P restores normal steering rack to 997TTS...or I'll just have to keep 996TTS longer than planned.

    Re: Took Delivery

I am not sure I like the 997 steering either?

    Very blah to me.........

I never noticed anything unusual with the 997 steering. Guess I'll have to pay more attention to it.

The very BEST!!! Enjoy it in good health.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember most 997/S reviews give considerable praise to the 997/S'simproved steering over the 996. I hope this is correct because it's one less thing to "worry" about.

I've found 997S steering's variable-ratio to be quite counter-intuitive...and almost dangerous...esp, after growing accustomed to 997S' steering ratio/response in relatively straight-line/soft curve driving, and suddenly faced w/sharper curves where new steering ratio beyond 15 degs off-center catches one by surprise...esp if one is accustomed to every other competitive car's linear steering response....in my view, this non-linearity makes 997S' steering perhaps 90% as desirable as 360's steering (80% as desirable as CS' steering) and probably an even match vs SL55/65's steering.
