    BjoernB:

Compared to the TurboS 991 - gearing and sound is clearly superior. Sound with sport exhaust is very noticable different to any Turbo before (except 991/2RS).  It's a bit less linear than previous models and the last 2000 rpm are more "fireworks" for sure smiley

Otherwise, the 992 Turbo S basically "destroys" the M8 in any performance category, so it is a no-brainer which car to get, unless you need a sports car with more luggage room.

Actually, if you want to travel with lots of luggage, the 992 Turbo S Cabriolet is the better solution. We put two large Samsonites in the rear in my wife's former 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet, you just open the roof, you put the luggage in the rear and close the roof. Perfect! You can't do that in the Coupe.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

I had a short test drive of the 992 Turbo S  Cab

I Iike the sound of the Turbo valves indecision  The growl in spots mode wasn't too bad for today ' standards . The car felt quite alive , much more then the Carrera variants .

Could not test the grip on winding roads , but general feel was planted . Steering feel is no RS , but still quite direct and adapted to this type of car .

PDK shifts are short and super fast . Feels comparable to my RS , but I did not focus more on that then necessary .

    Generally a missile , docile ...

I definitely  like the new interior , expect for some details .

The 992 shape suits the Turbo S the best , as in it's essence it can handle better a bloated car .

Also noticeable is that the cab does not have the hump anymore . The line flows like on the coupe .

I liked it a lot , but would I be able to use this car ?

This is the best looking Turbo of the water-cooled era, IMO.

As to you being able to use the car, I think you are in best geographical location to make full use of this transcontinental all season express.

as Eric says, besides bloated, the performance is irrelevant.  Even in the wild wild west, a touring is fast enough as the roads are so narrow and bumpy you can't run > 160 mph, everywhere else those speeds is jail30

It would probably be as fast as my RS , or maybe even faster on some tracks , but only for a few laps because of the weight .  Also the feeling in the Turbo has nothing comparable to the one in a GT car . I would never swap that , even for faster times .

That's what you want to have good sensations . No need to go too fast if the road is less then perfect .

    ac34:

    So track it!

The 911 Turbo S was always a road car which can also be tracked occasionally. Perfect Autobahn car (I speak from experience), very nice mountain roads car (I just wish Porsche would have chosen a more neutral setup, similar to the 996 Turbo Smiley but then, people who may not even come close to it's potential would probably call it boring again Smiley) and a very good daily driver, even in winter time. If I could own only one car for all driving purposes, it would be very likely the 992 Turbo S (or the Lamborghini Urus Smiley).

I never understood why people in speed limited countries or countries with very severe speeding punishments buy a 911 Turbo S but to each his own I guess. For speed limited countries, cars like a 911 GT3/GT3 RS or a Lamborghini Huracan Performante Smiley make much more sense...and provide much more fun even at lower speeds.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

I must say I am quite impressed with the new turbo s:

    - Front grip and reaction to steering input is much improved over 991.2 (even if the 991.2 was on Corsa tires)
    - The sound is much more present now (sports exhaust)
    - Somehow the car also feels more powerful and aggressive under acceleration, I am not 100% sure yet why
(of course the engine has more torque and power but there might also be an "emotional" effect based on how the new 8 gear box reacts to throttle input: when accelerating heavily from a cruising situation there is a tiny little delay on throttle input in normal/sports mode (not sports plus) that makes you realize what comes after the gears shifted down even more... A bit like the turbo lag in older days. Or it is just the combination of shorter gearing and more torque. Much more aggressiveness...)

The whole car feels so perfectly solid and precise as one expects it from a turbo. The best feature is this extra of emotions as described above. Wonderful product Smiley

    Gents,

Just confirmed my order on the 992 turbo S 2021 model year.  From your experience when will production for 2021 start?  Have been reading about different aero kit packages to be introduced, any info about that?

    Thanks in advance.

Will start shortly - there are still some supply-chain problems. But launch of production is expected very shortly (maybe next 1-2 weeks). These cars will already be 2021 MY Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

Guys who drove it already, can you confirm that the optional sport suspension is overly harsh ? I noticed it as a one and only criticism of the car.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

I don't think the one I tried had the sports suspension. But for sure, when put into sports mode the setting was pretty firm already . I would not want firmer then that and I like firm rides , always opted for sports suspensions option on the carrera.

My test car also had the regulat suspension (need to double check). Ride was very good in all modes.

P.S.: Test car had the sport suspension (-10mm)

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

I'm a little disappointed in the 992 Turbo S.  I really thought it would exceed 140mph in the 1/4 mile.  The F8 Tributo and 720S both trap in the 140s in the 1/4 mile.

Many thanks for posting! So the above comparison with the 720s is using older test data.

I would love to see a comparison with a current production 720s. Friends told me the 720s lost some of its power after the filter update. A test vs the new 992 turbo s would be a perfect idea to see how big the difference still is Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

The 720 has cracked 10 seconds in the quarter. So I would not hold my breath. Over 100 the Mac is king, still.

Should still be quicker - however, McLaren also needed to adjust to the stricter emission standards. It seems that the cars produced more recently suffered a bit from this, unfortunately. Would be interesting to see comparable numbers Smiley
