Re: ROAD TEST: New 992 Carrera4S

    still no backseats ?

Re: ROAD TEST: New 992 Carrera4S

It looks indeed better from that angle , but one can still see that the back , where the cooling grill is , is now very high and rounded .  Would need to be seen in real , but I much fear that it makes it look like it has one of those '' sticking out asses '' ...

I had the same impression, will wait to see it live but in photos the high rear does not good at all with the Targa.

I do like the concept of the Targa and it looks very very nice, however I am overwhelmed by the German over-engineering of the roof mechanism (just to get the roof down / away !!!) and given that my first encounter with a Targa roof was a 1989 model ...

Agree big time. What's so wrong with a removable hardtop? Low-tech, works fine, saves weight. If you want a gimmicky high tech mechanism, get the cab.

    Wonderbar:

I like it too, but seems a lot more expensive than a coupe with a glass roof.

Anyone here own a Targa?  If so, real world usability, experience tips?

I owned a 991 Targa S for a year. It’s a handsome car. I consider it the best looking non GT 911. My issue was four wheel drive, weight and exhaust sound. But it’s the best of both worlds. Great DD with the top down or up and a competent sport car.

If Porsche somehow can make it a GT car, I would jump on it in a heartbeat.

Re: ROAD TEST: New 992 Carrera4S

I was tempted to get a Targa GTS earlier. There was a Chalk one that arrived with my Panamera and it sat in the showroom for a looooooong time.

My gf was in love with the Targa styling, but the price was stupidly high. That GTS carried a price tag of $200kCAD, and the insurance company put it in the supercar category for insurance purposes for the GTS trim, that's the worse part.

I love the new 992 interior, but that fat ass WITH a butt implant look really plus me off.

Maybe I will get a Targa 4 or 4S in 991 form instead.

does the targa still require stoppng to lower the roof, unlike the cab?

I guess so - since the latest Targas are all based on the convertible model, I assume that a "fixed Targa bar" would have to be certified etc. as a model separately ...

If I remember correctly,  you cannot because the top going back extends beyond the back bumper. I know I didn’t try while driving.

Well, Corvette has done that forever... people then say its primitive.  Even the new C8 has a simple stowable top - with the convertible being electric retractable top.  They will see what the market decides re. sales I suppose.

The electric top on the Targa doesn’t  bother me at all, in fact I like it. What I don’t like is the price, compared to the coupe with the glass roof.

Re: ROAD TEST: New 992 Carrera4S

Oh yeah I was building one on the website, a Targa 4S in Chalk.

Showed it to my gf, first word she said was why is that Porsche look so weird? The front doesn't matches the back and the proportions are all wrong, she said it looks like a 911 that had Down Syndrome.

She likes the 991 proportions much better.

I deleted the 992 config immediately.

Re: ROAD TEST: New 992 Carrera4S

The weight increase over the cab isn't a big issue in the turbo engined 991.2 models compared to the n/a engines in the 991.1.  There is a big deal made about the complexity of the roof mechanism but the reality is that the top targa section is basically the same folding Z arm mechanism you'll find in the cabrio. The glass lid uses the same principle as the tonneau section of the cabrio to lift up to let the roof panel stow away as well but with revised arms to support the weight of the glass rear window. It's a pretty clever adaptation of the cabrio mechanism overall. I've never had an issue with the roof on mine. It is probably the rarest model of the regular production cars and gets positive comments as the body style is unique which people seem to like.

The targa makes a great relaxed cruiser as you somehow feel calmer with that top panel stowed and the partial open air experience. The 3.0 turbo engine in the Gen 2 models gives it pretty decent performance when you do feel like stepping on the gas. I don't know why Porsche insist on only making the targa available in AWD form. A targa 2S with rear wheel steering would make a nice addition to the model range I would think.

Re: ROAD TEST: New 992 Carrera4S

I still do not understand why Porsche doesn't offer a 992 Turbo S Targa. Would make sense.

Picked up this very low mileage C4 S last night. Agate gray metallic, polished black rims, sport and premium packages, black leather with chalk stitching, Burmeister, etc. Love it so far..

Re: ROAD TEST: New 992 Carrera4S

Congratulations! Is it in exchange or addition to the Panamera?

Re: ROAD TEST: New 992 Carrera4S

Panamera lease was coming to its end, Saw this car at the dealership and leased it for 39 months. Very low mileage —2300—and in flawless condition. I was either lucky, or stupid, or both.wink

BTW, the sport exhaust is plenty loud for me, especially in my quiet neighborhood. Car is quick as a cat. And I surprised myself that I liked the black rims. Stealth.
