    OFFICIAL: NEW Porsche 911 Targa 4 / 4S (2020)

Elegant, extravagant and unique: the new Porsche 911 Targa

The style icon among the 911 models enters its eighth generation

Stuttgart . Porsche completes its sports car trio in time for summer: following on from the Coupé and Cabriolet, the third body variant of the new 911 generation now makes its debut with the all-wheel drive 911 Targa 4 and 911 Targa 4S models. The distinguishing feature of the Targa remains its innovative, fully automatic roof system and, just like the legendary original Targa model from 1965, it features a characteristic wide roll hoop, a movable roof section above the front seats and a wraparound rear window. The roof can be comfortably opened and closed in just 19 seconds.

It is powered by a six-cylinder, three-litre boxer engine with twin turbochargers: the 911 Targa 4 now delivers 283 kW (385 PS) and, in combination with the optional Sport Chrono package, accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds – one tenth faster than before. The engine in the 911 Targa 4S boasts 331 kW (450 PS) and reaches the 100 km/h mark in just 3.6 seconds under the same conditions – four tenths faster than its predecessor. Top speed of the 911 Targa 4 is 289 km/h (up two km/h), while the 4S peaks at 304 km/h (up three km/h).

Both sports cars are fitted with eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) and intelligent all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM) as standard to deliver maximum driving pleasure. Alternatively, the 911 Targa 4S can be ordered with the newly developed seven-speed manual gearbox, with which the Sport Chrono package is included. New technology has also been integrated to extend the range of features for both 911 models and, for the first time, Porsche InnoDrive, which includes adaptive cruise control, is available. Thanks to the enhanced Smartlift function, ground clearance can be programmed so that it is raised for everyday use. The list of options is supplemented by an extensive range from Porsche Tequipment and new personalisation options from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Porsche will further extend the combination of traditional style elements, timeless design and cutting-edge technology in a special edition of the 911 Targa, which will make its debut in June.

    Efficient biturbo boxer engine
Like the 911 Carrera models, both 911 Targa variants profit from the increase in power provided by the turbocharged three-litre six-cylinder boxer engines. Both performance and everyday usability benefit as a result. The engine in the 911 Targa 4 produces 283 kW (385 PS) at 6,500 rpm, which is 11 kW (15 PS) more than its predecessor. Maximum torque of 450 newton metres is delivered across a wide engine speed range of between 1,950 and 5,000 rpm. With 331 kW (450 PS), the 911 Targa 4S delivers 22 kW (30 PS) more output than its predecessor and generates maximum torque of 530 Nm (up 30 Nm) between 2,300 and 5,000 rpm.

Optimised all-wheel drive for better traction
The enhanced performance of the new all-wheel drive models goes hand-in-hand with further development of the front-axle drive. The clutch and differential unit is water-cooled and has reinforced clutch discs for greater robustness and a higher load capacity. The increased actuating torque at the clutch improves its adjustment accuracy and the function of the additional front-axle drive. Overall, the enhanced front-axle drive with PTM (Porsche Traction Management) contributes to even better traction in all road conditions.

Further developed chassis for more comfort and safety
The electronically controlled variable damping system PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) is part of the standard equipment on the new 911 Targa models. This system automatically adjusts the damping characteristics in terms of driving comfort and handling to each driving situation and has two manually adjustable maps, Normal and Sport. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), which includes an electronic rear differential lock with fully variable torque distribution, is added as standard equipment for the Targa 4S and is available as an option on the Targa 4. Like the other eighth generation Porsche 911 variants, the Targa models are also equipped with Porsche Wet mode as standard. Sensors fitted in the front wheel housings are capable of detecting water on the road surface and, if significant volumes of water are picked up, a signal in the cockpit provides a recommendation for the driver to manually switch to Wet mode. The drive responsiveness is then adapted to the conditions to guarantee maximum driving stability.

The driving dynamics setup for the 911 Targa 4 includes 235/40 ZR tyres on 19-inch alloy wheels on the front axle and 295/35 ZR tyres on 20-inch wheels on the rear axle. As standard, the 4S model is fitted with 245/35 ZR tyres on its 20-inch front wheels and 305/30 ZR tyres on its 21-inch rears. On the Targa 4, deceleration is taken care of on both axles by 330-millimetre brake discs with black four-piston monobloc fixed callipers. The red-painted brake callipers on the Targa 4S have six pistons at the front axle, four at the rear while its discs measure 350 mm front and rear. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) can be ordered as an option.

Extravagant Targa design with a modern interpretation
The exterior of the 911 Targa is characterised by the design elements of its 992 model generation. Compared to its predecessors, its body features significantly more pronounced wheel housings at the front and, between its LED headlights, its bonnet has a distinctive recess evoking the design of the first 911 generations. Its rear is dominated by its wider, variably extending rear spoiler and seamlessly integrated, elegant light bar. With the exception of the front and rear sections, the entire outer skin is made from aluminium.

The interior echoes the 911 Carrera models and is characterised by the clear and straight lines of its dashboard and its recessed instruments. The 911 models from the 1970s provided the inspiration here. Alongside the central rev counter – very much a defining feature for Porsche – two thin, frameless freeform displays extend the information provided to the driver. A compact switch unit with five buttons for direct access to important vehicle functions is located below the 10.9-inch centre screen of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM). The standard PCM features include online navigation based on swarm data as well as Connect Plus with Apple Car Play®.

The model for a new class of sports cars since 1965
The 1965 911 Targa 2.0 was a trailblazer for a whole new type of car. Originally marketed as a "safety cabriolet with anti-roll bar", the Targa, with its detachable roof, soon established itself as an independent concept and indeed became a style icon. Right through to the present day, Porsche has continued to combine two worlds in the 911 Targa: the advantages of open-top driving in a cabriolet combined with the everyday comfort and safety of a coupé.

    Re: OFFICIAL: NEW Porsche 911 Targa 4 / 4S (2020)

Just as I was saying in the other thread about me treating Porsche the same as everyone else, here is one of their obvious money grabbing project.

They just put some gold badge on the Targa, put a custom Exclusive interior with ALL the leather options in it and call it a day.

And they even throw in a 'custom' watch as another option. Like they did with the Exclusive turbo S and GT2RS.

Paying tribute to tradition: the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition

    06/02/2020

Porsche presents the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, a state-of-the-art 911 with design elements from the 1950s and early 60s and the first of four collector's pieces of the Heritage Design strategy.

Historical exterior and interior design elements have been reinterpreted and combined with the latest technology in a special limited edition from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. The new model is available to order now and will be in dealerships from autumn 2020. Only 992 examples will be built, matching the internal model series code. Along with the introduction of the special edition, selected interior elements will be available as part of the Heritage Design package for all current 911 models. Porsche Design has also created a high-quality chronograph, to be built in restricted numbers as well, exclusively available to purchasers of the new limited edition model.

“With the Heritage Design models, we are evoking memories of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s in customers and fans alike. No brand can translate these elements into the modern day as well as Porsche and, in this way, we are fulfilling the wishes of our customers. We are also establishing a new product line that represents the lifestyle dimension in our product strategy with these exclusive special editions,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.

Exclusive paintwork in Cherry Metallic or the four other exterior colours that are available, combined with gold logos, creates an authentic look in true 50s style. The exterior of the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition features stylish livery in white, with a historical design. The spear-shaped graphic motorsports elements on the front wings are particularly striking, recalling the early days of Porsche competition history. A further highlight is the Porsche Heritage badge on the luggage compartment grille, which is reminiscent of the one that was awarded back in the day when a Porsche 356 reached the 100,000 kilometres mark. This seal of quality from the past – with a modern twist – will grace the rear of all four Porsche Heritage Design models. The connection between past and present is also emphasised by the 1963 Porsche Crest on the bonnet, steering wheel, wheel centres and vehicle key. The historical motif is also embossed on the head restraints and key pouch. Further emphasis is provided by the new model's standard 20/21-inch Carrera Exclusive Design wheels and classic-look brake callipers finished in Black.

World premiere of the new Porsche 911 Targa

Following on from the Coupé and Cabriolet, the third body variant of the new 911 generation now makes its debut with the all-wheel drive 911 Targa 4 and 911 Targa 4S models. The two new 911 models celebrate their premiere on the Porsche web TV channel 9:11 Magazine.

    more

The interior also pays tribute to the past with the exclusive two-tone leather interior combining Bordeaux Red leather with OLEA club leather in Atacama Beige or Black leather with OLEA club leather in Atacama Beige. The use of corduroy on seats and door trims signals the return of a material used in the Porsche 356, reviving the zeitgeist and fashion of the 50s. The classic looks of the green-illuminated rev counter and stopwatch underline the emotive nature of the concept in the same way that the perforated roofliner in microfibre fabric and extensive Exclusive Manufaktur leather trim do. A metal badge on the trim panel of the dashboard records the individual limited edition number.

The first Heritage Design model is based on the new 992 generation 911 Targa introduced just days ago and has been equipped with the latest technology for chassis, assistance systems and infotainment. It is powered by a high-tech 331 kW (450 PS; 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition: Fuel consumption combined 10.3 – 9.9 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 235 – 227 g/km) biturbo boxer engine which, in combination with the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, accelerates the 911 Targa (with Launch Control) from 0-100 km/h in less than 3.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 304 km/h.

Porsche Heritage Design strategy: re-interpreting classic design elements

The Heritage Design models emphasise the lifestyle dimension that represents particularly emotive concepts within the Porsche product strategy. In this case, the Style Porsche design department and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur are reinterpreting iconic 911 models and interiors of the 50s through to the 80s, bringing period characteristics of those times back to life. The Heritage Design package for the 2019 911 Speedster provided an initial preview of this strategy and Porsche will, in time, produce a total of four special limited edition models.

911 Targa 4S Heritage Design edition chronograph: the watch to match the car

In the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition Chronograph, Porsche Design has created a high-quality timepiece exclusively for owners of the new car. This mechanical watch has an elegant and clean design and, just like the car, is limited to 992 units. Again just like the car, the designers have drawn their inspiration for many of its details from the legendary Porsche 356 and iconic Porsche 911 Targa. For example, the design of its watch face, with its white second hand and Phosphorus Green rings, is inspired by the cars' speedometer and rev counter while the hours on the watch face are inscribed in a font that is deeply characteristic of Porsche. The new watch's strap is made of genuine Porsche interior leather and the way that 911 is embossed in it is a further tribute to the iconic sports car.

    * Data determined in accordance with the measurement method required by law. Since 1 September 2017 certain new cars have been type approved in accordance with the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), a more realistic test procedure to measure fuel/electricity consumption and CO₂ emissions. As of 1 September 2018 the WLTP replaced the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Due to the more realistic test conditions, the fuel/electricity consumption and CO₂ emission values determined in accordance with the WLTP will, in many cases, be higher than those determined in accordance with the NEDC. This may lead to corresponding changes in vehicle taxation from 1 September 2018. You can find more information on the difference between WLTP and NEDC at  www.porsche.com/wltp.

Currently, we are still obliged to provide the NEDC values, regardless of the type approval process used. The additional reporting of the WLTP values is voluntary until their obligatory use. As far as new cars (which are type approved in accordance with the WLTP) are concerned, the NEDC values will, therefore, be derived from the WLTP values during the transition period. To the extent that NEDC values are given as ranges, these do not relate to a single, individual car and do not constitute part of the offer. They are intended solely as a means of comparing different types of vehicle. Extra features and accessories (attachments, tyre formats, etc.) can change relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics and, in addition to weather and traffic conditions, as well as individual handling, can affect the fuel/electricity consumption, CO₂ emissions and performance values of a car.

Porsche knew it won't sell tons, hence why they are 'limiting to 992 units'  Targas were never their popular models anyways.

It really is quite a pathetic attempt to milk money.

And of course, they have already contacted their 'whales', 918 owners all have bene notified they will have one allocation. mail

Maybe I will wait for the Heritage Weissach package...............

Interestingly my dealer now has two Speedsters for sale. One with full heritage package for $389,000 and another "pedestrian" one for $329,000.

They also had a Taycan S for $145,000 in powder blue. Didn't look that bad.

If given a 10% discount ( in Switzerland the price is CHF 226K ) and If I would be in the market for a Targa, or a pleasant GT, I would definitely go for this one . It looks very nice and is elegantly put together. Makes it also more special then a standard one.  I like the color.

But generally this 992 is not making me think of a 911 , more like an Aston-Porsche due to the extra confort / luxury.

Unfortunately, there will be enough collectors world-wide to absorb the 992 available ...

992 units even with few stickers and goldish part, it is going to be a tough time to move these....especially at $180K

the next 5 to 6 years are going to be fun angry

I'm afraid so... Many people think everything is over but it just started. Smiley

My daughter loves the Huracan (in any variant) and she likes the 911 but she doesn't like this Targa version at all (I showed it to her). Maybe I'm no Porsche enthusiast anymore then? Smiley Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: NEW Porsche 911 Targa 4 / 4S (2020)

I love the loaded interior, after having the Exclusive turbo S and seeing what what Exclusive Manufaktur can do, that's my new standard for interior quality.

Not quite sure about the gold badges. Also not quite sure about the shape of the 992 Targa exterior either.

Price however would seems to be a bargain compared to RoW, ours will be starting at $200kCAD.

With this colour scheme it should sell in China, no?Smiley

It starts at CAD$205,900, the one I config-ed ending up just around CAD$250k.

That's super silly money. The loaded 991.2 Targa GTS I had a looked at before was not even $200k.

I might as well go pick up a slightly used 991 Targa 4S for 100k less.

Please, not Autogefuel. The videos are often very detailed and well made but Thomas, who usually presents them is dull (even Shmee is more exciting) and if he likes a car a lot, you can be sure that it is something comfortable, not sporty. Smiley Smiley
