Btw: That woman in the GT3 RS without that OEM rear wing, how did she get street legal technical approval for that car? I thought that Switzerland had even more restrictive laws than Germany? Smiley In Germany, it is impossible to get approval for that (I know a GT3 owner who tried and it required the help of Porsche but Porsche refused...), it would require extensive re-testing of aerodynamics/etc., which would cost huge money (in the low six figures to get approval).

Did you ask her? Could be interesting.

She must of taken if off after registration . Next control is only in 4 years . She can put it back on just before the inspection . There are hardly any chances cops will make any problem as they are not aware of it + they look more for loud exhausts, un homologated rims, intakes .. that kind of stuff .

It looks really good in my opinion, I'd consider that as well if I had a 991.

In Germany, you loose insurance coverage if you do that. I suppose this is not the same in Switzerland? Smiley
I wish Porsche would offer a wing-less or similar option for their GT models but so far... Smiley

It is organized by the Swiss federation of Porsche clubs   ,  and it is during the free training days of the Swiss Porsche Cup  Race .

It is open to all, even if not a Porsche ;-) ,  . If interested I can give you link to the inscriptions .

Here are 3 little videos I made while driving my RS at Paul Ricard  showing each a part of the track and the last bit of cool down lap and back to the pit .  Sorry for the amateurism . It was just a try .

In the first video you can actually see the MclAren P1 do a few spins in the chicane .... ( looks in the left corner at 1:22 )

Regarding the service action to fix rubbing:

I finally got my car to a Porsche Workshop:

They got an advice from Porsche for a specific setup for every 991 GT3RS to avoid to much scratching of the fenders. It is 2mm higher in the front and 5mm higher in the rear than my current setup (factory setup).

The car is currently at the shop and I will use it next week so I don't know much more.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Still, a risky thing to do, it could seriously undermine the car's aerodynamic balance and stability, in particular if the level of downforce at the front (front splitter/spoiler lip) is left unchanged; therefore the car would oversteer much more than usual.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Strange that it is a suggestion from Porsche then.

So you are staying with the new factory alignments ?  You are not doing your own geometry ?

My sales guy is pushing me to do a more aggressive alignment , but I am not sure about it . Not convinced it will be better .  As to the rubbing, at my garage, they say they only do the new setting if it touches regularly . It is not mandatory to do, it is an option Porsche proposes for the cars that touch .

This ducktail is there on all RS . The wing comes attached to it . On this car they diid not change the tail, only took off the wing.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

For speed limited roads, I don't believe one second, taking the wing off can do any unsettling of the car . Maybe at speed on German Highways, but not speeds up to 120 km/h .

...agreed, Gnil, but I thought this picture was taken during a track day event.

Spirited driving on track will make the absence of the rear wing very obvious in terms of its effect on the handling of the car.

Well, I was under the impression that Porsche demanded it to be stock alignment when doing the service action...

But anyway: I drive the car as it is now until I feel that I need a new experience - then I might try something different. I like to get a "new" car once in a while. Sometimes just changing the alignment might give just that.

Has Porsche issued a new Technical Service Bulletin maybe, which has slightly revised factory alignment settings?  Smiley
Another alternative possibility is that some cars have drifted outside the factory settings since delivery, and this service campaign involves resetting them to within the "approved" (because unproblematic) tolerance range.

Don't even try to explain that to people, many won't agree. I have seen (car) things in the US, you would get nightmares about it. Smiley

Gnil is right when he says it won't affect aerodynamics at Swiss (legal) speeds but on the track, speeds easily exceed 200-240 kph and the aerodynamical balance of a car is crucial to high speed stability. A small bump can already put the driver in danger...

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I guess Porsche spent hundreds of hours in the wind tunnel , computer simulations and extensive road testing in order to create a high end sports car . Removing the wing could create an unpredictable behavior ; quite a big risk just to satisfy ones aesthetical desire (not to mention that no insurance would ever cover any accident damage as the car is not road legal any longer, I assume). Said that I like it too. This what people do when they cannot buy the R , I suppose.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

This is just my humble opinion but if you buy an RS and take the rear wing off just like that, you shouldn't be driving an RS, you bought the wrong car... not that I'm a fan of such rear wings aesthetically, much much preffer the looks of the 911R, but its there for a purpose, not for looks, and part of that purpose is why you would buy such a car in the first place. Again just my opinion though.
