Some of the BMW 's and Mini on stock at my local dealer have at the moment discounts up to 42% .

    Same at Audi

    anything interesting?

If one really needs a car yes, if you want something nice , not so . Mainly black cars with standard options and engines, or configurations that are harder to sell .

I was just at the BMW dealer today. The big 8 coupe really caught my eyes, love the lines on it and the interior is light years ahead of Mercedes.

The new Z4 have superb lines too, so did the M5 Competition

I think the Z4 is a hit. Much rather have that than the Supra.

I’d rather have a new Z4 than a Boxster with a crappy four cylinder engine!

We do have a Z4 M40i and I have to admit that I really like it. Only downside is the gearbox and the artificial feel of the steering (even in Sport Plus). Seating position is perfect, sound is ok, power is ok, suspension is ok, fresh air intake is wonderful  - well done BMW !

Smiley Smiley Nope, my son wants a V8...I guess he is not going to drive a car before he is 30 and makes his own money. Smiley Smiley

Joking aside, this car would be perfect for him (he loves the M2) but I won't give him such a rocket, sorry. Boys are boys with their toys, so... Smiley The US car idea was related to the fact that some US manufacturers offer some sort of artificial power/speed limitation for their cars, so getting him a Challenger Hellcat wouldn't really kill him. Smiley We'll see...he has to finish school first.

Sadly I can only see us having another year or two in sports cars. SWMBO has hip issues and in the near future will need at least one hip replacement. Will need something less horizontal seating position by then - hence interest in something like a BMW M340i  Smiley

Thanks - indeed they can but have to be very careful not to exceed 90 degree angle when sitting - risk of the joint becoming dislocated. Can’t do that in a sports car - stupidly when we specified our GTS I didn’t choose the 18 way seats as they can adjust the seat base angle which would have helped considerably . Smiley

You could always just buy one 18 way seats for the passenger . Cheaper then to change car and you keep the GTS

A friend of mine (2 new hips and a body mass index in the wrong direction) got himself an used 991 cab recently and is very very happy ... no problem getting in or out (standard seats). I do look occasionally at used 991/2 on the Porsche website, as much as I would like a 992 (and the dealer principal at my local Porsche Centre has convinced himself he can “make it happen”)  they are way outside the cost to change I could justify - or SWMBO would permit!

Curious to see that car in reality...

I saw the final car live (a friend works for BMW as an engineer) and I have to say it looks much better in person than on photos but I don't know, it kind of is too much, especially for models like the 320 or whatever. The car I saw was a lower end model and it had those tiny wheels and normal body and the grille just looked a little bit out of place, even if it looked better than I thought. He will have access to the M4 in a few weeks, so maybe I get the chance to take a picture of the front.

    Re: M3/M4 getting...

For the 4 series the M Sport trim will be a must. It makes the car fuller and hence the grille more in proportion. This a shame as this option costs some €4.500 extra.

Similarly for my taste the 992 needs the Sport Design Paket (another €5.500!). Without it the styling looks very feeble for a sportscar.

The first time I saw it, I hated it. After a few weeks (or is it months ?), I'm getting ... used to it I guess. That grill does make a statement. I won't say I like it though but I also reserve my final judgment for when I'll see one in the metal.

I truly think that cars are getting uglier nowadays with each new generation. It's true with Mercedes and Audi too. And it's the same with Porsche. I don't dream anymore about new cars. I don't get anymore  the feeling "oh I want that car asap". All of them are looking more and more "generic". Even Ferraris. The Tributo, the Roma... these cars bring no excitement what so ever.

I could trade-in my 435i gran coupe but I have just no interest. It's a weird and new feeling for me.

    It might be.

The thing is I still would love to have a 991 or even a 997, even though the latter would certainly disappoint me  as it's an old car. And I'd still love to have a 458 or even a 488.

So I guess my new feelings are age related but I'm not sure it's the only reason. I believe new models are missing something cars from the precedent generation had.

    Re: M3/M4 getting...

I like the new 992 actually a lot Smiley, I don't know why people don't like the design. The front lights could be a bit smaller and the interior of the lights a bit more futuristic but we get that with he facelift. Smiley SmileyThe rear is beautiful in my opinion, the only thing I don't like is how it sounds:

Just yesterday, I was coming back with my wife from Lake Starnberg in my Performante, driving with both windows completely open (enjoying the warm wind but also the sound Smiley) and stopped at a stop light. While standing at the stop light, a white 992 Carrera S (I think) made a pretty spectacular turn and then went full throttle (he had the green light) and I barely heard the engine. Even my wife looked at me and asked me: "What Porsche was that, I didn't hear the engine?" She thought it was a Taycan... Smiley Smiley

Same with the new 992 Turbo S: Wonderful car, very refined and finally of great (interior too) quality but the sound is...muted. Very muted.

Perfection can get boring. My wife said she enjoyed driving with me in my Lambo again (she usually drives by herself and we meet somewhere because she enjoys her convertible) but the sound was enough for her for the next couple of weeks. Smiley You have to like loud exhaust systems of course but I think that a car which doesn't make any noises is boring. The difference to an EV isn't far anymore.

I know I'm probably the only one here but I like my cars quiet, even the sport cars. To many fart can hatchbacks around, I enjoy the stealth approach.

When leaving in the early morning for a trackday, I have to push the Donkervoort to the end of the street to start it up ffs. Thank god it's a tiny lightweight car.

No, you are not alone. I always ordered the sport exhaust at my Porsches for optical reasons, used the option for less than 1% of my kilometers. Useless.

I would spend money for a silent, stealth mode

I hate those farts and never understood why people love them.

The E63 S I had was not farting, it was shooting (like a clear pistol bang), which was pretty bad in tunnels, I always had two bicycle riders fall off their bikes, they were pretty pissed, so I stopped accelerating in tunnels.

The worst "fart" of all cars had my 991.1 Turbo S: It sounded as if someone or something was hitting the undercarriage of the car. Worst exhaust sound ever and this was years ago. Smiley I let this car go after only 6 months, guess what I took instead? Right: A 991.1 GTS. With a nice little button in the footwell, a gift from a friend.  Smiley Smiley

I love how Lamborghini solved this problem with the Performante: In Corsa mode, hell breaks loose, with all the noises you can imagine, not only exhaust noises but gearbox, everything. Once I enter Strada mode, this is a whole different car, you have to experience it to believe it. I always switch to Strada once I get close to home but I'm not sure it always helps. A friend who lives in the neighbourhood was gardening in his garden when he heard me...I was around 2 kilometres away at that time. Smiley

I just got my bmw back from service. I don’t know if it’s just me but I think the exhaust is quieter at low revs. I’m a bit pissed as the exhaust was already quiet to begin with. Do you guys know if bmw does that to its cars like mercedes does it as Christian wrote it before ?
