Thank you all for the kind words and random insults indecision wink

I got hold of a Racing Yellow 981 Cayman GT4. One of the last ones to roll off the production line. With bucket seats but otherwise basic spec. Although there were not too many options to select back in the day.

Yes, I did consider the 718 too, but the muted sound and facelift design were not in favor. While the 718 GT4 does look more aggressive due to a more edgy and flat design, I do like the clean lines of the 981 better. The 718 has also got an excessive amount of black plastic exterior parts which I don’t find attractive. A matter of personal taste.

The prices on the 981 GT4:s have held up very well and I don’t expect them to drop. More likely the opposite. There were only about 2500 built and it is surely one of the last back-to-basics, manual, non-particulate filter cars to own.

Photos will follow once the car has been delivered kiss

Cool little car. Are you sure about that production number? Have the impression they churned out quite some more.

It is used. The model was introduced at the Geneva Autosalon in March 2015 and produced until the Porsche factory closed for holiday in August 2016.

I guess one could see it as a diversification of the investment portfolio, but this was not the intention. It is just for fun Smiley

No Smiley I keep seeing 2400 to 2500 as production number. It was never a limited car, only limited by production capacity, Yes, Porsche did increase production due to the unexpected demand, but I read that the subcontractors could not deliver enough parts.

Thanks! Yes, I agree. Cars are made to be driven, but it is an added benefit if the ownership is not a financial disaster Smiley

I think you are right with more units being produced. If it was as many as 6'000 I don't know. There were issues with subcontractors delivering all the parts.

While I have not checked in other countries, the prices in Switzerland have held up extremely well. At introduction in 2015 the 981 GT4 was priced at CHF 104k. Adding options and subtracting the EUR bonus one ended up at ca. CHF 105k. The 17 cars now available on the Swiss market are 4-5 years later priced between CHF 90k - 100k (and yes, they are selling at those prices). There are some cheaper cars for CHF 80k with high km:s and some more expensive cars that have not even been run in. Weirdly the 981 GT4 supply in the market went down since the 718 GT4 was introduced.

I am really surprised about bluelines' decision, since he drove the 1.gen already and I thought that the "GT3-Killah" was a substantial upgrade to the 981 GT4 ... wait and see ...

The GTS is a really great car too! The all year round every day sports car. While I never managed to take it to a track, it did its fair share of "spirited driving" Smiley Very fast, very capable and very safe. For a turbo engine, smooth linear power delivery and nice sound in PSE Sport. Ticks all the boxes.

There were two things driving the decision:

    1. I realised more and more that I was missing that manual stick and extra pedal Smiley Call me old fashioned, but there is something special with shifting gears and feeling the connection to the car.
    2. I used the GTS as daily driver, but since I got the S6 it became the new daily driver. Hence I did not need the GTS daily driver capabilities and could look for something more of a "fun" car.

So, I also looked at 997.1/.2 GT3 RS and air cooled 993 Carrera S/4S, but adding it all together the first generation GT4 was the most appealing to me. It is a modern car with "older" car mechanical feel, but without substantial maintenance costs. You can extend the factory warranty for years to come and this also gives a peace of mind.
