I don;t get it. Why arent people mounting their plates into or infront of that center aperture?

It's only used for the Tip,(?) so why not mount it there?

There's gotta be a good reason I bet. Maybe not.

    1. traffic laws in most countries (license plate has to be at a certain height to be visible)
    2. this is where the designers/Porsche has found it to be it's place
    3. it would add cost if Porsche would use two different front parts with different license plate mounting supports
    4. maybe because of aerodynamics
    5. they wanted you to comment on that, in the hope you would buy a Lexus instead and give them peace of mind

    Re: Carmon Red 911 S

Congrats Interesting color...looks alright, except for the contrast between carmon and the red calipers...

I posted your pics on flat-6.net as its the first one in a very unusual porsche color.

And I'm sure you asked permission to do that...

Don't you think you are over reacting on this one?
I mean, when someone post pics of his car on a website, he does not intend to hide it and keep it private. If you don't wanna see your pics on the net, don't post them in the first place. I'm sure Timd has no problem with it.

RC, If you don't want your own pics to be posted everywhere, that's your right and as I said, I won't post your pics anymore.

But here, it's just a unknown, no licence plates, 997s. Who cares? A forum is meant to share informations and as its a car forum, pics obviously.

Don't be mad for a stupid thing like this.

PS: I also replied to you post on the boxster.

Well done Tim and congratulation, looks nice. However, if you open the photo in photoshop and adjust the image through levels, pick the pole as white and the inner wheelarches as black and the photo comes alive and look absolutely stunning. I think I may change my seal grey to this for my upcoming boxster.

Can you post a picture of what you've done ezzie.

    Re: Carmon Red 911 S

Saw this color in the flesh at the Miami Auto Show last week. Very nice and original color. Not for me, But the people I was with thought it was Stunning..To be honest, the Colbalt Blue 997 S sitting next to it was the show stopper..

Would be happy to email it, if any can host, as don't have own web space

    Hummmm, okay...

2-5, seem highly speculative therefore not "good" reasons.

Reason 1. has limited revlevance. In the USA it doesn't matter where the front plate is as long as it is vertical and visible from the front of the car.

So I tentatively conclude, in the USA at least, front plates can be mounted lower and therefore be rendered much less "damaging" to the appearance of the car from the front.

Re: Why not drop that plate into the spoiler?

i hope porsche never completely changes their front bumper to accomodate a front license plate. like corvettes. (oh well, those are ugly anyway)

    yeah Moogle!

I see that abomination in the corvette front bumper and I scream.

If you get a big ugly honking licence plate in a black frame and just _stick_ it on front of the car, any car, the human brain will tend to see the whole car almost continuously and uninterruptedly behind the plate almost as it it weren't there.

Corvette totally screws up this psychological principle of design by literally embedding the plate into the car. VERY bad and stupid.

    WOW!

Plus some guys won't have to have a plate on the front and yet Corvette messed up the continuity of the front of the car anyway!

The styling of whole car is a mess anyway; a mish mash of lines and shapes and styling fragments from earlier versions. But that's another story.

    New car

I like it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Congratulations.

    Re: Carmon Red 911 S

Congrats, very nice, I've never seen that color before.

    Re: Carmon Red 911 S

That's funny, I saw you driving in your car last night (Sunday night)! Nice car, and I expect I'll see you driving around the area again!

    Re: Carmon Red 911 S

Sunlight in the UK? It's a rare thing - you guys who live in sunnier places don't know how lucky you are...

As for the colour, all that matters is that TimD likes it. My choice is irrelevant. TimD, congratulations and hope you enjoy it!

    Re: Carmon Red 911 S

Very nice car! Though I would not choose such a special color on my 911 (I am not that daring) I really love it! It is good to see a porsche with an original color ever now and then. Hope to see more pics in the future, but first enjoy your car thoroughly!

    Congratulations TimD.
A very Interesting colour and certainly different, please post more pictures when you get the time, I know its already been said but good for you in not choosing the usual colours. Enjoy and have safe fun.

    Re: Carmon Red 911 S

Colour not my cup of tea as I think this colour suits the 993 better.

Congrats on your purchase and enjoy!

    Re: Carmon Red 911 S

I was behind you actually, and I wound down the window to hear the car! It was dark, so it was only under the streetlights that I could get a proper idea of the colour - I thought it was dark blue at first!

It looked great though - congratulations.

Good to actually know you're an enthusiast too!

    Excellent

At last, good to see someone get a different colour - doesn't look too bad either.

    Congrats.
