A few minor details about Boxster introduction in the USA

Official on-sale launch date is January 15th 2005.
The following two "launch car" versions will be available at US dealers by that time:

Basalt black met. Boxster with a black top and a black standard leather option.
Other options: heated seats, windstop, automatic climate control, sound package plus, Boxster S 18'' wheels.

Midnight blue met. Boxster S with metropol blue top and stone grey full leather option.
Other options: heated seats, windstop, bi-xenon frontlight package, Bose surround sound system, 19'' Carrera S wheels, A/C with full climate control.

There has been also a rumor that some select dealers might get a PCCB equipped Boxster S but this hasn't been confirmed yet. It is also surprising to see that none of the launch cars has the Chrono Sport package. Maybe some dealers were afraid that they can't sell the launch cars with that "nice" looking stop watch on the dash.

Re: A few minor details about Boxster introduction in the USA

Interesting - notice there doesn't appear to be PASM on the S with 19s.... especially given the discussions that have gone on elsewhere in this forum.

Also two dark coloured cars - really will put an emphasis on the titanium/silver vents.

Down my UK dealer tomorrow, I'll try and find out how their dealer cars will be equipped for next weeks launch.

Merely held in trust for Porsche A/G

Re: A few minor details about Boxster introduction in the USA

Didn't get to see the cars today but the UK launch cars are black (unsure if it's Basalt but probably is) and midnight blue.

The midnight blue one has sand interior, much to the chagrin of the delaership as they've just heard that they can't order sand beige with anything but full leather and not with sports seats until further notice....

So, Rich, any thoughts on PASM?

I wonder if the dealers will be able to choose their third model as with the 997 introduction. They all had the same two launch cars but they also had a third car which they had some leeway as far of the options that they were able to order.

Not for me.... OK, 997 w/o PASm rode very hard on Links Road (a road near the dealership with tree roots growing underneath it) but the rest of the time was fine for me. OK, all of us w/o Porsche contacts are guessing until we drive the cars but I rate 987 on 19s w/o PASM will not be too disimilar to 986 on 18s - new stiffer chassis means std suspension setup should be a little more compliant and I believe they've lowered the std tyre pressures too.

BTW, dealer thoguht I was mad - had the use of a std 997 and just toddled around the block on a couple of road surfaces, the fastest I got was 40mph, told me all I neede dto know though (and yes, I've driven one before so have taken it by the scruff of the neck too)

Don't blame me if all the fillings in your teeth have fallen out after the first week of driving your new toy, then
