Trying to order a 997S. Need advice!

Hello Guys,

I'm trying to order a 997S. The earliest build the nearby dealer has is March. May delivery!

The dealer wants $5000 deposit. Just wondering, is that normal? or is the dealer asking too much?

We ordered our M3 for $500 deposit and the S500 for $1000.

offer him $3000 and tell him to take it or leave it.

OR:

If he insists on the 5000 tell him you want to show the contract to your attny, to make sure it is refundable.

Have Attny write in conditions like, say, your financial reversal, or divorce or death of spouse, or terrorist attack will MAKE it refundable, etc. Write your own terms in for getting a refund.

In the _USA_ the deposit is supposed to be refundable, unless you ordered a pink custom paint job? That's what I was told.

That is way too much unless your are ordering something unique like Mary Kay pink color. Most dealers only require a US $1000 deposit.

Thanks for the reponse guys. All I'm ordering is Guards Red/Black Adaptive Sports seats. Nav, Sport Chrono, Premium Sound, Aluminum Package, PDC.

I asked them if they consider Guards Red an out of the norm color in their standards! they said no. Two dealers now asking $5k. Maybe it's a bay area thing.

$2000 and below are normal.

i usually pay $500-1000

more than that, its probably because they think you aren't serious.

I put down a $1000 deposit in Long Beach for my 997S. And, in California, there is a law somewhere that says the deposit is fully refundable if you don't end up buying the car.

I believe Rector asks for $5K deposit, but refundable...ask dealer to confirm refundability; also may want to offer $1K now and additional $4K once build begins....where $5K is fully refundable. Other SF P dealers ask for $1K. If time-sensitive, may want to see if you can find acceptable 997S on vessel. Seems that several 997S in reasonable colors/equip combo are avail for SF dealers at MSRP.

After haggling with my dealer, they went from a deposit of "10% of MSRP" to $2,500...

I am a long-standing good customer of their sister BMW dealership so maybe that helped. As I handed my saleslady the check, I nicely noted that the deposit is irrelevant anyway, since it's refundable if I balk...

In Houston, its "only" $1000. In Austin its $5000.

I've ordered cars from a few bay area Porsche dealers, and I put down $1K to "get in line" and another $4K when the order was placed in PCNA system (around 3 months before production month). My understanding is car deposits are refundable by law in CA, unless you sign a contract that says it's non-refundable.

I paid $8000

but I am in Saudi Arabia and have one dealer only.. Actually, the dealer wanted much more - almost $15000 but I worked down with them to $8000. Things work differently over here but I am surprised to see dealers in Canada asking that much !

Porsche Centre East London want Pounds3000 for either 997 or 997S. With Pounds1=US$1.85 today, that's US$5550...

I better bill some clients now !
