    Re: Huracán EVO STO

Tires...possible. I don't know why Lamborghini went with Bridgestone, no clue. Smiley Maybe this has something to do with future projects (next gen Aventador and/or Huracan)? No clue.

Getting the STO today and over the whole weekend, so I guess some more thorough analysis will be possible.

Problem is still the weather (nights will be around 1°C, daytime around 12°C) and the tires of the car. I don't want to crash it.

Tires…Bridgestone Race. Not exactly the best for low temps (15 deg C) but better than expected if you keep your throttle foot under control.

You are wrong but more details early next week in a detailed report with many photos. 😎

Yes, I LOVE the STO. No, I won‘t get one because I cannot afford having both, the STO and the Performante (and there are various reasons for why I would like to own both).

    Re: Huracán EVO STO

Will post a report over the next few days, have tons of photos as well. blush

Just as two hints, the biggest disappointment and the biggest plus of the STO:

    • Exhaust sound is a huge disappointment, the car has a restriction (at least the EU model, I assume the UK model as well???), the sound is limited by a very restrictive flap control. Flap opens only above 4500 rpm (in 6th gear above 3500 rpm) and at idle. Will write about this more in the review.
    • Looks and street presence is amazing, best looking Lamborghini...what the heck, best looking sports car in 2021 without a doubt. This car causes people to stare at it, to stop next to it and to even follow it. I had a car follow me and the driver asked me if I can stop, so he can take pictures. indecision

More over the next couple of days, sorry. I don't have much time right now, I'm still not 100% OK yet, not easy for me.

Bit surprised about the sound - the guy in our local showroom started theirs up and revved it a bit and it seemed deafening. As far as I could see it was similar to the Evo - a flap and no filter. Think China is the only market which gets filters at the moment.

Correct - but loud enough when you push it. Will be interested on your comments on steering - much better than usual Lamborghinis but still nowhere near Ferrari or Porsche feel.

No, the EVO is basically as loud as the Performante with a slightly different sound in all rev ranges, the STO is not

This had something to do with certification according to a Lambo rep.

There is a workaround (if STO owners are interested, I can provide details but PM only), it isn't legal though, so...at your own risk.

The STO gets loud over 4500 rpm (3500 rpm in 6th gear) but the change in flap position is very sudden (like an on/off switch) and it can get very annoying.

Steering was fantastic but I had the Potenza Race tires on the car. I cannot say much about Ferrari (last Ferrari I drove was the F8 Spider and steering was excellent) but I do not think that the new GT3 for example has a better steering feel than the STO. The Performante is a different story but there is not much complaint here either in my opinion. There is a little bit more "movement" in the chassis on the Performante when you drive through sharp curves but my Performante has sport tires (PZero Corsa L1), not semi-slicks. The STO is excellent but I think that what makes the GT3 so exceptional is more the tire choice than the steering/chassis setup. The Michelin semi-slicks are top notch. The Bridgestone Potenza Race felt excellent, even at temps around 12-13°C but I do not think it is in the same category with the latest Cup 2R. I could be wrong though, I drove 500 km mostly on country roads and the Autobahn, not on the track.

Surprisingly, the Performante feels like the smaller, lighter and even slightly more agile car (vs the STO) but the STO is really fast, also gives you that certain "crisp" (sorry, don't know what English word to use for the German "knackig") feel of a race car, there is no movement whatsoever in the chassis.

Overall, I would like to own both, the STO and the Performante, as weird as this may sound. The STO could be an excellent track car, the Performante is more of a do-it-all car, very similar to the GT3, the STO is more the GT3 RS of the Huracan line. That guy who crashed the STO loves to drive passes in Austria and I think the Performante is better suited for this kind of fun. The STO is more of a track car but this doesn't mean it is not suited as a daily driver. It is, with limitations.

The 812 steering I don't find that impressive for feel? Direct yes, but communicative, not so much. Best steering feel yet for me was the 997 RS.

    Re: Huracán EVO STO

Drove the STO down to Goodwood just now. Great fun -very easy to place the nose. Gearbox better than my Performante (working from memory). Brakes a little “grabby” but engender alot of confidence. Lamborghini steering still bugs me at higher speeds in particular - very heavy and you feel the wheel is pulling you in the opposite direction if that makes sense.

STO gearbox feels a tiny bit snappier in Trofeo mode but it is too refined, if this makes sense...the Performante gearbox feels "jerkier", more technical, noisier (all in Corsa mode).

Drove today in the Performante over 300 kph on summer tires, almost 270 kph on winter tires on my way back from the dealer, no steering issues, car feels as if it drive on rails, not different with the STO, probably even better. Smiley

This seems more like Goldilocks.  The transmission in the Aventador is too rough.  The transmission in the STO is too refined.  The transmission in the Performante is just right.

That is my favorite for power steering, but an aircooled 911 with fresh manual rack and bushings (or aftermarket spherical bearings) makes that feel numb in comparison Smiley

Yep, this pretty much sums it up. The Performante has two faces: One refined in Street and Sport mode and a rough (mechanical/raw) one once you switch to Corsa mode. The STO feels refined all the time.

I mean those mechanical noises and certain jerkiness which seems to appear out of nothing once you switch to Corsa mode in the Performante. The STO completely lacks this BUT you can't take your eyes off the STO, such a beauty AND it really drives extremely nice as well.
