System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months!

I got in my 997 S this morning for a nice drive to work only to be greeted yet again with the "System Fault Return to Workshop" message. This is the 7th or 8th time (I've lost track of the count) that it has been to the shop for the same problem, and it's well beyond ridiculous at this point. Can any one of you out there honestly say that I shouldn't be mad as hell at this point?

This is the worst new car ownership experience I've ever had, and that is absurd given the price of this car and all of the hype about Porsche quality. I could accept the car being in once for a computer glitch as it's a new model, but there is no way that it should have been in the shop this mahy times or for this many days over a 4 or more year period!

Right now I really hate this stupid car, and it pisses me off to even look at. Is anyone from PAG or PCNA reading this board? If so, do I need to pull the gloves off and get really nasty to make Porsche understand that this is not acceptable in any way, shape, or form?

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months!

    Skip,

It is time to get nasty with PCNA. Obviously, they've tried to fix the car 7 times without success. Time to lemon the car and move on. There are many lemon law lawyers out there. It may be worth your while to pay one a few thousand dollars to push PCNA around a little. Absolutely ridiculous.

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months!

Sorry to hear this Skip . How well the Lemon Law works in Coloroda?

I'll try to find the PCNA mailing address and post it for you. I have heard they're very recptive of customers' complaints and comments.

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months!

    Skip,

I just perused the Colorado lemon law statute. PCNA is permitted 4 attempts to fix the problem within the first year of purchase. Beyond that, the car appears to be subject to the lemon law.

Although I'm not a Colorado attorney, you should send the regional rep and your dealer a certified letter informing them that you intend to seek remedy under the statute. Remind them that they have had 7 unsuccessful attempts to fix the car, and have failed each time. I believe that after receipt of the letter, they get one more chance to remedy the problem. If that fails, send a second letter demanding that they replace the car with a new one. If you have any questions, I would suggest you call the Colorado Attorney General's office. I'm sure they have staff members who will give you the run-down on what you need to do.

    Good luck...

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months!

I don't know what the lemon law is, but considder it otherwise: I you have bought something. Just anything, you go back to the shop, they repair it, etc. But if they can't repair, and it is simply their fault, you get a new one... would that work for cars as wel? Hopefully! Else, let them take it to wherever they need. Give you a loaner (and a good one!) and take the bloody thing apart untill the last screw. No way they can solve it any other way.

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months

Ok skip, what's "good" is it is the same problem again and again. If it were 7-8 _different_ problems then I'd say going ballistic is required.

Getting angry is justified in your case because they are probably showing that they are incompetant. Nothing wrong with the car as much as something wrong with the people trying to fix it.

I figure it this way: there's maybe three people in the world who _know_ exactly what's wrong with that car and how to fix it. They are the "electronics systems" (for lack of better phrase) guys at Porsche.

It's "just" a matter of your dealer service people being capable enough to get that information out of the offices at Porsche.

So, from this perspective all you have to do is keep wasting your time going back and forth until the "electronics systems" guys explain how to fix it(THAT sucks) eventually they will and you'll forget all about it in a few months

All of the above is _speculation_ on my part, but maybe not too off the mark. Either that or the car is haunted?

hang in there! At least it's not a health problem.

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months!

    skip,

sorry to hear that. i am still driving arround with the same error, almost 3 weeks now. i am still waiting for the "front control module" which is on order at 2 (two) dealerships.

both now say it may be weeks until they get the replacement part.

did they ever replace your "front control module" (in german: "steuergeraet bug")?

i wonder why porsche does not have these modules available for replacement? makes me wonder...

one of the mechanics says that there is a "known" software bug in this module (made by delphi btw.). the software/hardware module versions that are known to have a problem are:

    sw Ind: 2101
    hw In: 1A00

according to them, this is revision 1.0 of the hardware (never a good thing) and revision 1.0.1 of the software (doesn't sound very mature either).

i am just wondering what your info on this subject is?

attached a picture of the trouble child...

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months

Yea, get a new one or your money back. In the meantime if it runs go drive the sh_t out of it til you've got your remedy in place. No less than red line every shift

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months

If you decide to go the lemon law route, read the warranty booklet--it describes the process you need to follow, including address to send letter.

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months

    Skip,

So sorry to hear this. Definitely pursue the Lemon Law. Get a new 997S.

Re: System Fault again! 7th (8th?) time to shop in 3 months

    Skip,

Enough is enough!! Lemon laws were enacted for a reason. Get rid of it. You should not endure this much crap after spending $90K+. I would opt for a new 997S but you're probably fed up by now. It is porsche's loss.

yeah, tell 'em to shove it because you're bailing.

    Enough IS enough!
