Mate, fortunately compared to the US, and the ROW, Switzerland remains a paradise. At least here government is decentralised, one knows the police, and we don’t have this big brother cancel culture that is killing the big states around the world. Switz is the antithesis of socialism and big government. The US is going the completely wrong way when it comes to this.

limit was 30mph......yes left wing wants control and more control.

This is not a right or left thing. Every country will get to it with the rise of EV.
In Switzerland the government has been talking about it too. They are trying to figure out how they will taxe cars now that more and more are electric and don’t contribute anymore to the taxes through buying fuel.
A real usage of the roads taxe will happen.
The technology needed will go perfectly car monitoring.
What parties can do is make sure the least possible private data will be used.

Why should one care about what happens in the nanny state of Switzerland when the topic posted is about draconian changes in the United States? Europe is well down the road of ruinous socialism even in those countries that don’t officially participate in the EU with its non-elected bureaucrats determining how everyone should live. There are plenty of individuals here that do not want the destruction of our rights.

As governments are thinking about the same ideas in the US and in ultra democratic nanny states, it is surely something we are all moving to. Liking it or not. Crying for lost liberties or not. They have to come up with a new car/fuel taxe solution as it does not work as it is now with EV véhicules. Unless you think ICE véhicules should be the only ones paying.

We have a bit of that buffoonery in the States; however, I fear that the new Administration will usher in numerous draconian measures.  The individual nominated for Secretary of Transportation is beyond incompetent and said that he supports increasing the federal fuel tax or eliminating it.  If it is eliminated, it will be replaced with a realtime monitoring system and drivers will be charged a usage fee.  This opens the door to continuous monitoring of the driver and assessing speeding fines and other moving violations as they occur.

In the states they are already doing a lot of damage since 1/20 Smiley

After 40 years of driving sports cars I still get a buzz when I wake in the morning and know I'm driving a beast to work, there is traffic but I guess it is not as bad as you experience, but even sitting stationary, for the last few years in 800hp 997, in neutral engine vibrating the whole structure feeling alive waiting to dip the clutch, into first, modulate 764 pressure plate/GT3 4.0RS sprung disc into forward motion, feel the torque even low down, hear the engine's fantastic sound, decide whether to stay in first and rise the revs up to 4 or 5 K or to shift into second or maybe even third......pull out of the traffic onto a motorway, see an empty quarter mile stretch in front, accelerate in second, backend squirms as it loses traction nannies flicker away on the dash into third. feel 1G acceleration maybe into fourth if there's room, yes I'm very much alive indecision

Great alluring brands, lots of money to be spent on pleasure.

I have to add a “lesser” brand—Subaru.  A year ago, I was dismissing that brand as cheap and irrelevant for young enthusiasts like my son, but he kept on me about getting a BRZ.  He was right, and I cannot now think of a better car for track driving experience and reasonably priced mods (exhaust, headers, coil overs).  He has built up more than 20 hours of track experience, and now runs at least mid pack with older Corvettes, 911s and GM products. The car has a six speed manual, a virtual 50-50 weight ratio, and is quick as a rabbit in corners. With all the modifications, the price of the car, and track time costs, we’ve had a ball for under $40,000. And best of all, we have bonded together enthusiastically, and his sports car dream fires are well fueled.👍

I know the VIR track well.  If CD used the "long version" of the track, there are two long straights, which favor big bore/high torque cars.  NASCAR uses the track to sort out their products, so I'm not surprised by the Shelby's performance...

A goody, another meaningless video showcasing the efficacy of launch control correlated with the torque curve and combined with no more driving skill than quick reflexes.  Without watching this screed one can tell you the finishing order of the cars.  We’d learn more by having the three drivers swat their space bar on command to determine which one had the quickest reaction time.

+1. Minus reaction time performance today’s cars, especially EVs will hit the same numbers within hundreds of a second regardless of pro or monkey behind the wheel.  Skill comparisons might soon be limited to on line simulator races. - or spacebar swatting

I enjoy watching these but it illustrates the difference between American drag racing (Brooks @dragtime is an excellent example) and casual comparisons.  This is a casual comparison.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

Yes, It is casual drag racing. Matt is just having fun.

    Brooks is very competitive.

Drag Racing isn't that popular in Europe anyway.

It is a casual comparison but when traction works (the Demon on regular road tires would have done the trick), the 992 Turbo S has difficulties to drive away. The Demon is half the money and double the fun. Smiley Just imagine the Demon with AWD... Smiley I am still surprised the (now disbanded) SRT department didn't put this amazing Hellcat engine into a regular (maybe even mid engined) sportscar, so sad. This could have been a serious competitor for the Corvette.

Marc Gemballa will revisit the Porsche 992 with 959 sauce

Marc Philipp Gemballa is preparing the "Project Sandbox": a supercar based on the Porsche 911 Turbo S, inspired by the Paris-Dakar Porsche 959 and which will be powered by RUF Automobile.

Marc Philipp Gemballa, who is none other than the son of the founder of Gemballa, Uwe Gemballa, no longer has any links with the German preparer, whose company "Gemballa GmbH" was taken over after the death of his father. At the age of twenty-six, he founded his own company "Marc Philipp Gemballa GmbH" (MPG), and last year announced the preparation of his very first model.

This supercar will be inspired by the legendary Porsche 959 which won the Paris-Dakar rally in 1986, but will be a version approved for the road, with off-road skills. Although its features and design have not yet been fully disclosed, Marc Philipp Gemballa having only presented a few sketches of the model, the 10 copies of the launch limited edition have already been ordered. Ultimately, only 40 examples of this Porsche will be produced.

Pending his official presentation, Marc Philipp Gemballa has announced a partnership with RUF Automobile, which will supply the engines: this is the 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat six of the Porsche 911 Turbo S (Type 992), reworked by RUF to develop the trifle of 750 hp and a torque of 930 Nm, a gain of 100 hp and 130 Nm compared to the standard version.
