Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

I was at my dealer today according to him the 911-992 will have only a 4-5 year cycle. There will not be a 992-2. After this there will be some type of hybride 911. Could this be correct?

The 992 has been already designed/built to be hybrid compatible so I would think that their intention was to not need a new generation midway the life cycle if they decided to add hybrid and just use the 992.2... or maybe for marketing reasons they will give it a new generation designation when its just a 992.2 yes

Just curious RC, what is the usual "go into storage" date for your fun cars?  I know they have mostly been AWD, but never got the impression you were much of a fan of winter sports car driving....

I drive all my cars all year long, I even have winter tires for my Huracan Performante. Smiley The problem with the Performante is ride height. Not very suitable for deep(er) snow, I am just afraid I could damage something, so I prefer driving it mostly when it is cold outside but without snow on the roads. My Audi R8? I drove it everywhere, was even to Austria (skiing) with it.

I'd say not but I wouldn't be surprised with anything happening right now in the car market. Smiley

As far as I know, the 992.2 will happen and will have a mild hybrid. The 992 drivetrain is already prepared for a hybrid.

correct - actually there is space made for a mild hybrid already. Think of it like a 700 HP turbo with 1000 nm and further "theoretically" reduced CO2 which is a KPI for every next model...

Yup, As they test all the cars the same way so their own numbers are comparable to each other.

Yes,  out of the factory in Germany like all the other ones you see on the road. indecision

There are so many examples running low 10’s now - it requires a big conspiricy theory to believe all of them have been specially prepared. If you believe that you might be open to theories around 5G, Bill Gates, lab viruses, Elvis still being alive etc. indecision

I do not believe in conspiracy theories, we just ran two 992 Turbo S vs various cars here and I doubt that my Performante does the 1/4 mile in 10.2 seconds. Best I ever achieved (haven't tried often though) was 10.46 but it was alone, though with an almost full tank. The 992 Turbo S does quite well from a stop (launch control) but afterwards... I think 10.4 or 10.5 are easily possible but 10.2 is a different class already.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

It is normal for any car that you get production variance. You will get slower examples that can only do 10.4 or even 10.5 but then you get faster examples that can do 10.1 or 10.2. There has been cabrio versions that ran 10.2 and 10.3. Just because a specific example can only do 10.4 does not mean there are no faster examples out of the same factory or if there are that they are modified. You have a sample size of two there - completely insufficient to conclude that based on their performance it is the best that is possible out there.

We always drive in a group and many of us (not me...unfortunately Smiley) have different cars and/or bring new cars to the drives. So we can see very early how good the performance of a new car is and when manufacturers are not being honest. I am still very impressed with the 720S performance but I expected more from the 992 Turbo S. Don't get me wrong, it is a very fast car, especially from a stop but I expected more above 200 kph from a 650 hp Biturbo car.

Biggest disappointment lately was a new RS6. A guy had a M5 Performance (latest model) dealer car with him and basically obliterated the RS6. I think Audi should have added some horses to the car but anyway... The 488 was also quite slow in the beginning but one of the group received a car last year and this one goes much better, not sure if Ferrari changed something or they just improved the engines.
