Relax: the new Cayenne Turbo "killer" comes from Mercedes end of next year or latest beginning of 2006.
And a little birdie told me that BMW has also something around 500 HP in the planning for the new X5, including a "monster" Diesel engine with two turbo chargers and minimum 320 HP.

It looks like brembobrakes are installed...I dont't think, that volvo has got the know how for such a car, where do they take a V8 engine? from volvo-penta??

There is nothing to be relaxed..
if BMW and Mercedes are finding something to kill the Cayenne.. 
Maybe Porsche will make the Powerkit for the powerkit + 50HP again..

Don't forget about the Ford connection.
The v8 for the new XC90 is said to be a reworked version of the Ford designed v8 for the old Taurus SHO. It is built in Japan by Yamaha and shipped to Sweden for install.

Good point. I thought the same thing and I won't have picked up on the difference if I hadn't had a buddy with one years back.
There was a 3.0l v6 and later a 3.4L v8 that could be had.
C&D has the reworked version for the XC90 as a 4.4L and putting out 311hp.
Your guess is as good as mine how they are squeezing anything bigger in a bay designed for a transverse mounted 5/6 cylinder and bumping it up to 650hp for this monster.

You're right. I just did a little research and found the 3.0 V6 was introduced in 1989 and the redesign with the 3.4 V8 was in 1996. Neither had much power, really. Not compared to all the hoopla. The V6 had 220 hp and the V8 had 235. I recall test driving the 3.0 and being underwhelmed. Pretty motors though.

Yeah, the "Ford connection" is why Astons are such pieces of crap, right?
The car pictured is one that Volvo was just having some fun with. They're coming out soon with a V8 XC90 though. Don't be surprised to see Volvo offer up a tuned version like they do many of their cars. It's gotta be more reliable than the Cayenne - maybe it's the "Ford connection".
