I hear the sport chrono stop watch turns: it is removeable?

Does the thing rotate on a vertical axis?

If this were true there's a chance that it can easily pop off, right?

Then all you'd have is a round hole that could be plugged with an easily-fashinoned button-cover.

    Anybody think of doint this?

Would the electronics of he PCM be affected? (probably not).

I'd rather see a button plug than an attention getting wart that I will never use.

Anybody know? Nice to have options with options that aren't optional.

Re: I hear the sport chrono stop watch turns: it is removeable?

The clock itself will swivel slightly side to side in the fixed housing.

Oh @#$%^&! My hopes for a clean dash are dashed.

Now I'm thinking crowbars and hacksaws. A slab of duct tape over the hole could possibly match a natural grey leather interior.

Re: I hear the sport chrono stop watch turns: it is removeab

I figure that soon enough tjere will be tuners that provide a nice option for the removal of the dash clock.

I would suggest a nice puppet of your favourite politician. Stuff it into the hole...

I actually would've difficulties to choose one, they all look so damn appropriate!

    Correct.

I'd rather look at a _roll_ of duct tape!

On the one hand I agree that I would rather look at duct tape in my car than my "favorite politician".

On the other hand, the idea of stuffing politicians into a hole appeals to me.

Yeh, OK, I'm an OT anarchist.

Re: I hear the sport chrono stop watch turns: it is removeab

I didn't want the Chrono for the very reason that it sticks out like a...........ok wart. I sure would have wanted the performance features. What I don't understand is why the information was not incorporated into the OBC display or the PCM.

Because they couldn't charge the almost $1K for just a few software changes in the engine management. The fancy clock on dashboard justifies the cost and gives bragging rights.

Re: I hear the sport chrono stop watch turns: it is removeab

No doubt, if you are able to remove the chrono there will likley be three holes. Two to secure it and one for the wire, There is likley to be an impression left in the dash material as well.

The big question is who will be the first one to step up to the plate and pry the sucker off!

It'll be easy. Just ask the service dept to show you a exploded diagram of it and advise you a bit. Or have them do it. They are there not only to make a profit with their own labor, but to advise us for free (customer support).

I'm hoping the thing can be disconnected with no effects to the rest of the system.

Aw scheeesh!, who am I kidding? I'll probably keep it there until some aftermarket "wart-ectomy" patch up kit (with instructions) becomes available for my leather color.

Re: I hear the sport chrono stop watch turns: it is removeab

My chrono doesn't light-up when my headlights are turned on. But that may be an advantage so I don't have to look at it at night. Guess it is the only option that I could do without, if the sport button option could be ordered separately. Otherwise, the S is the best 911 that I have owned over the years since I bought my first 911 in 1969.

Re: I hear the sport chrono stop watch turns: it is removeab

Unfortunately, duct tape is a bit lighter than the natural grey interior in my car. Were it not for the early posts on this board I'd be without it and the adaptive sport seats, but since I was forking out $8000 for PCCB what's another few thousand. The sport button lets you remind yourself what a sports car rides like, and on the watch the motion of the hands is kind of jerky-cool.

Re: I hear the sport chrono stop watch turns: it is removeab

I was playing with my chrono at night and it does light up but you have to activate first, it does look better when light comes on.

Re: I hear the sport chrono stop watch turns: it is removeable?

    Hello all,
First, a quick introduction: I have been lurking here for a while, albeit it silently. I don't have a 997 (yet, maybe) as I am a diehard 993 fan (also got a 356).

Anyway, it occurred to me after reading so many posts on that ugly clock: wouldn't it be a piece of cake to just ask the Porsche Exclusive Departmnt to remove it? They do nearly anything after all...

This was exactly my thought. I would even accept to have it kept inside the dashboard inside some cushioning if detaching the wires wouldn't work.

In my opinion the 997's dashboard resembles the one of the aircooled ones in so many ways that the clock just disturbs the appearance.

E X A C T L Y !!!!!! They wanted the _Porsche_ retro look and they ruin it. They turn it into a GTO muscle car retro look, the ones with the aftermarket guages stuck everywhere.

    GEEZ!
