    help me spec a 997 S

I'm in the final stages of designing a 997 S. So far:
    Seal gray/ black
Chrono, adaptive seats, bose, cd, full leather, and leather covered rear center console
My questions...is the porshe crest in headrest attractive on a coupe ?
Am I better off ordering the colored wheel crest from porshe , or are the aftermarket units for car renewal nicer ?
    any thoughts...thanks

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

I think the crest is butt ugly and I should know 'cause I'm butt ugly.

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

Crests in seat are OK but you never see them
    Consider the following:
    Dimming Mirrors
    Heated seats
    Nav is great
    Phone is coming

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

you already got the bare essentials, get nav and you are completely set.

crest in headrest is nice, and cheap too.

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

sounds like a dope car. have you thought about the short shifter and the colored wheel caps?

    Avoid perfectionist regret: get nav.

Get the nav, why? because you will have fully labled buttons on the dash, in your face everyday, that do not work.

Porsche is really smart huh? They know most of us Porschephiles are perfectionists. By insisting on including useless buttons on my car, they hold my sensibilities hostage and force me into to spend an extra $2000 for something I don't really want.

Avoid parking assist. makes bumper look ugly, IMHO

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

my 997S is almost exactly like what you have spec'd. while seal/black was not my first choice, i now love that combination.

the porsche crest in the headrest's & the wheels are nice, give a "special" touch to the overal look. considering how "low cost" they are compared to the overall price of the car, i suggest you get them.

another option, that i do NOT have, but wish is would, are the self-dimming mirrors. while a low riding car like this, and with all the high riding SUV's & Pickups in the US, it is kind of anoying to have the exterior mirrors NOT dimm. i would highly suggest you go for these.

the BOSE is great to. i have tried many bose's in many different cars and i think that the bose implementation in the 997 is VERY good!

    just my 2c.
    -r

ps: btw, artic/cocoa would be my first choice.

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

non functioning buttons or not, I just can't see the nav..
even a fool like me has a limit <g>
    <artic/cocoa> seal /cocoa ?? I don't know.sounds like brown shoes with a tux.
I put a b&m in my 996 and never looked back. i was counting on the new already much shorter shift in the 997 to satisfy.
has anyone driven with the optional shifter ?

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

RC's car has one. if you check his posts, he talks about his experience - generally positive, i think he said that the first couple of gears are a little harder to engage, but he highly recommends it. i ordered one on mine.

Perhaps you don't drive your car to unfamiliar places or on long trips.

In my '02 I've got Nav and it has proved to be on of the best features I optioned!
Living in Los Angeles and being invited to a function in San Francisco,400mi away, simply plug in the destination address and viola, your at the front door...no maps required.
I tend to do long road trips, the last was 6,000+ mi....your out in the middle of nowhere, fuel is getting low, and the low fuel warning is on, how far is it to the next fuel stop...it will tell you. You gotta pee, how many miles till the next rest stop?
Your in an unfamilliar city and it will thread you thru that confusing set of interchanges.
Simple to use and worth every penny.
Best part in '05 1 DVD not 7cd's
It's on the top of my list for my 'S' thats on order

    Get nav or get busted.

I'm trying to get you to do what is right. Support family members of Porsche workers: buy it. Besides it's kinda useful and good for the dreaded resale issue.

Also: just think when somebody asks you what those buttons do you have to say something like, "Nothing, since didn't order nav."

People will _hear_ you saying ,"Obviously non-functional loose ends [non-working buttons] don't bother me since I was so cheap when buying the car and I dared Porsche to take the nav out of the car because I refused to pay for it."

Nothing personal, we've never met but I'm sure your a well-liked and respected guy. But it's the other people who are nuts!

Nah..I'll just start explaining what each and every one of those 60 plus tiny little buttons and knobs actually do.Ater 20 or 30 their eyes will glaze over and they won't remember even asking the question. then I'll awe them with the cup holder releases.
The crests in the seats wil be gone..seems like something that belongs on a caddilac.
The dimming mirrors make good sense. actually enough sense that you just have to wonder why it's just not standard.
last but not least, I'm addding an actual freebie..model designation delete.

If you really plan to drive the car on weekends, the NAV is a must. This weekend, I took a trip to Solvang (California city that thinks its a Danish city). The quickest way would have been to go up on US Highway 101 (which is just a freeway). With the NAV system, I was able to go up there on the small back roads which were just awesome to drive. I was able to explore where I would not have been able to without the NAV (or not that easy).

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

Here are some pics to help you out. I think you need both especially for the money. I also agree Navi is a must. Good Luck.

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

    headrest

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

    one more

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

thanks for taking the time to post these pics.
the colored wheel crests look great with the red calipers.
I think I'm going to pass on the seat crests..

    Re: help me spec a 997 S

    don't forget auto dimming mirrors.
