For the nostalgia value, I would rather enjoy it if they went with a 3.5 liter, aluminum block, v-8 turbo.
It would be a bit like a 1962 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Weird, dealers and social media types have them, do videos on them, but there is still an embargo for 2 weeks yet? But from Matt's silent movie here, sounds like a typical Corvette V8 if a bit muted; sounds like short shifting but it is just the not-so-high redline according to Matt, and the shifts sound McLaren fast, but not latest-PDK fast.

Comparable are Sport Auto numbers and/or numbers done by the same magazine/test crew, maybe even driver.
It is not a bad time though, no matter who achieved it.
Btw: I doubt the GT2 RS did the Nordschleife in 1:18...

Official vs Sport auto laptimes...IDK. On one hand official drivers have alot of experience with the car, on the other hand Sport Auto uses the same driver but he has limited time with the car.
For a factory driver lap time, this isn't very impressive I'm afraid. Just good average I'd say...in this class.

It is only 3 seconds faster than the C7 Z51 which is not much improvement over several years and a totally new Mid-engine platform...

Agree. The basic platform should address the performance issue of the old platform yet the results don't reflect any tangible improvement.
Topspeed:We may see a big difference in performance when the C8 Z06 and ZR1 are revealed, comparing to C7 variants.
Seems as though the C8 Z06 is rumored to have 5.5L Flat-plane crank with high redline. I have seen rumors of NA (not much more than 600hp compared to 650hp in the C7 Z06) and also Twin-turbo 5.5L V8 (which would be used on ZR1 for sure, but not sure about Z06).
If the C8 Z06 stays with 5.5L NA, then I'm not sure how much faster it will be than C7 version, but should be great to drive. Will depend on how much weight they can lose and how much Aero they can add.
With the ZR1, this should have huge power, AWD, and hybrid (similar to 918 layout).
