    lazy air filter install

    among other things that border me about my 997S, is the fact that it's always very dusty inside. not 2 days go by after detailing that it is dusty again.

    last weekend, while doing some other "investigation" on my car, i noticed that the air filter was not installed correctly by the factory. see the picture below, it was set in place at an angle, leaving a gap of about 3mm on the back (you can't relly see the gap on the picture but i felt it with my hand). i pulled it out and set it in place correctly and now, i dodn't have dust in my car anymore... less at least.

    this car is starting to freak me out. i just hope they tightend the wheel nuts... ohh, i better check...

    Wow- sloppy factory work . That charcoal filter DOES require some time and a bit of " monkey motion" to sit flat in it's tray , as I've changed them before on my 996s . Looks like the line worker was a bit hurried or "out to lunch" that day.

    man... did you get the 1st 997 built or something? Did "franz" and "heinrich" from porsche factory not learn to build it yet? seems like you have had bad luck with your 997

    That cabin air filter tray has been on every Boxster and later 996/997 since 1997 . Looks like "Franz" had a bad night before !

    Open the trunk. Look in front of the windshield. The battery is under the center cover held in place w/ thumb screws. On the left there's another plastic cover held in place w/ torx screws - the filter is under that. Check the DIY section on Renntech.org.

    * open up your hood
    * remove the battery cover
    * lift the top end of the vertical plastic framing that runs along the very left side - hood-fender line (you can leave the bottom and of this framing piece engaged in the front lip cover, no need to pull it out all the way)
    * now you can lift the left corner cover, the plastic panel right next (left side) to you battery cover

    the air filter is underneath there.
