Gemballa GTR650 - Dream and Nightmare

Proud owner of a Gemballa GTR650.

Re: Gemballa GTR650 - Dream and Nightmare

    He really loves his car...

Re: Gemballa GTR650 - Dream and Nightmare

    High quality tuning?

Re: Gemballa GTR650 - Dream and Nightmare

Sad end of a dream...may the owner comment on this, I just posted the pictures.

Re: Gemballa GTR650 - Dream and Nightmare

That's sad hope insurance paid it off .

Re: Gemballa GTR650 - Dream and Nightmare

    WTF??

    Thanx RC

Thank you RC for posting my pictures. The reason for taking me more than 2 1/2 years to bring this post to light was due to insurance/legal issues.

All I can say is beware when ordering a car from Gemballa. Specially if he talks you into extracting 650, 750, 800+ hp from your engines.

In 2001 I ordered a completely modified 996 turbo from Gemballa (GTR650) for $300k. The car was 7 months late and when I received it it was not performing well at all.

When talking to Gemballa he promised to send me a mechanic which he dispatched to Riyadh after 3 months. The guy was out sourced by Gemballa and he basically told me how crooked Gemballa was with his customers and suppliers alike. It was too late for me then to go back on my deal.

The frustrating part was when I could not get a hold of Gemballa after the accident and I was forced to have my insurance company help me deal with him which cost me a lot in terms of money and time.

I thank god for not being hurt in that accident as I was driving the car on the highway. A faulty fuel line was suspected to be the cause of the accident (which Gemballa tampered with).

    Re: Thanx RC

BTW. Gemballa still has the nerves to feature my car on his web site!!!!!

    Re: Thanx RC

Sad story, sorry to hear that ha.

    Re: Thanx RC

Sorry to hear your story. What was the cause given by the Gemballa mechanic regarding the poor performance the car had when it was delivered to you?
Did you talk with this same mechanic after the accident?

How can they ask $300 for a tuned car and not having the means to suport their customers, is something behond me.
I really would like to hear their version of this hilarious story. Shame on you Gemballa

The mechanic told me that he worked all night on the car before it was shipped to me intially. He urged Gemballa not to send the car as it had a number of problems with the engine, turbos (garett), as well as the entire control unit. But Gemballa told him to finish up as he had already booked a place with the airline and had to deliver the car to them that same night!!! He also told him if the customer is not satisfied he could always send him a mechanic.

Btw, I still maintain an excellent relationship with the mechanic who has since been responsible for modifying more than 30 cars (in a sensible way) in the region with perfect results. Including my '02 GT2 which I sold after 2 years and 13,000kms.

    Re: Thanx RC

Here's the link to the car on Gemballa's site:
    http://www.gemballa.com/Umr/G96_TURBO/G96_TGTR650_SY.html

Apparently they don't know it burned.

    Re: Thanx RC

They should put before and after pictures . Shame on Gemballa; this story completely changed my mind regarding Gemballa as a whole

Not 2 mention being featured in his 2003 calander. Way after he knew it was burnt.

    Re: Thanx RC

terrible to hear such things about supposedly reputable tuners.

i suppose RUF and techart are the only ones left.

    Re: Thanx RC

    Terrible story....

    Thanks for help us..

    ciao
    Dario

    Re: Thanx RC

Wow! I guess I should think twice about letting Gemballa help to install insulation in my house.

That takes balls to feature a burned car in a calendar.

    Glad you are OK

    ha,

First - I'm glad you are OK buddy. No tuning for me other than Porsche tequipment I suppose.

Second - I hope you got your money back finally.

Took me almost 2 years to get $200k from the insurance. I guess they are now after Gemballa through their laywers..

    Re: Thanx RC

Sorry to hear about your misfortune--thankfully nobody was hurt.

    Re: Glad you are OK

How do you compare your GT2 to the Gemballa? How many hp was making the GT2?

    J.Seven

    Re: Glad you are OK

    Interesting !
I also remember that Gemballa Cayenne of the Gumball 3000. It had a problem with the gearbox. The car was too powerful for the gearbox, it seems !

    Best wishes,
    Rufie

    Re: Glad you are OK

I won't look at Gemballa the same anymore I'll look at it more like Hennessey

Re: Gemballa GTR650 - Dream and Nightmare

Oh my god!!! . That Gemballa was so beautiful. Once I got to the third pic I went schoked!!
The most important thing is that ha is ok, and he had no injuries.

I couldn't compare the 2 cars as I've said the GTR650 did not perform well at all. Looks wise, the GTR650 was more beautiful hands down.

    Re: Glad you are OK

Ha, what you have not told the audience is that you sold your 996 GT2 to get a Carrera GT. Uwe Gemballa is the biggest crook among all tuners (he is not even one, other than having nice body kits).

I have mentioned the sale of my GT2 in a previous post:
    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=57929&an=0&page=0#57929

And you are right about Gemballa when it comes to engine mods.

Are you saying that even after the mechanic went to see your car, the problems remained?

TTP used to make the engine mods for Gemballa, but they are not making anymore.

The mechanic spent a month in town fixing up a huge mess.. He had to rebuild the car mechanically all over again.. Exhaust, cooling system, turbos, control unit and much much more.. But who would've thought of a FUEL LINE???!!!!

    Re: Glad you are OK

    Ha,

Did the car burst into flames out of nowhere or was it due to some sort of impact?

By the way congrats on the CGT.
